BACKGROUND: T cells play a fundamental role in the processes that mediate graft rejection, tolerance, and defense against infections. The CXCR3 and CCR6 receptors, highly expressed in Th1 (type 1 T helper cells)/Tc1 (T cytotoxic cells, type 1), Th1-Tc1, and Th17-Tc17 lymphocytes, respectively, participate in cell migration toward inflamed tissues.
