BACKGROUND: Hyporesponse to erythropoietin is a common problem seen in around 5-10% of patients. Recently the focus from these remediable factors has been shifted to the non-modifiable innate factors i.e polymorphism of ACE and IL-1B gene and studies have shown that DD genotype and IL-1B CC genotype have lower erythropoietin requirement.
