Patients with ovarian cancer have a high risk of developing thrombosis. We aimed to investigate pre and post operative biomarkers associated with thrombosis including deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary thromboembolism in patients treated for ovarian cancer. We collected pre and post operative blood samples from 133 patients undergoing surgery for ovarian cancer between December 2021 and August 2022. The measured parameters were white blood cell count, hemoglobin, platelets, monocytes, serum glucose, CA125, D-dimer, fibrinogen, prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, fibrinogen degradation products, antithrombin III, protein C, protein S, plasminogen, plasminogen activator inhibitor 1, homocysteine, N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide, interleukin 6, thrombopoietin, soluble P-selectin and granulocyte stimulating factor...

Respiratory diseases in ruminants are a main cause of economic losses to farmers worldwide. Approximately 25% of ruminants experience at least one episode of respiratory disease during the first year of life. Mannheimia haemolytica is the main etiological bacterial agent in the ruminant respiratory disease complex. M. haemolytica can secrete several virulence factors, such as leukotoxin, lipopolysaccharide, and proteases, that can be targeted to treat infections. At present, little information has been reported on the secretion of M...

BACKGROUND: The objective of this study is to investigate the clinical and pathological differences between patients with IgA nephropathy (IgAN) and IgA vasculitis associated nephritis (IgAVN). METHODS: A total of 253 patients with IgAN and 71 patients with IgAVN were retrospectively included in the study, and clinical and laboratory data were collected and analysed. RESULTS: Compared with IgAVN group, months from onset to kidney biopsy were significantly prolonged in IgAN patients because of the lack of obvious symptoms such as rash, abdominal symptoms, and joint pain (13...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Decreased or loss of ABO blood group antigen expression has been observed in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) patients. We studied the clinical significance of this group in AML patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a retrospective, single-centre cohort study in which the data were retrieved from April 2009 to December 2019. A total of 1592 AML patients with normal ABO blood group antigen (Group I) and 65 patients of decreased or loss of ABO blood group antigen (Group II) group were enrolled...

BACKGROUND: Tranexamic acid (TXA) has been utilized in spinal surgery to effectively reduce intraoperative blood loss (IBL) and allogeneic blood transfusion rates. However, the traditional TXA regimen might last the entire duration of hyperfibrinolysis caused by surgical trauma, resulting in its limited ability to reduce postoperative blood loss (PBL). Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of perioperative sequential administration of multiple doses of TXA in reducing PBL in patients who underwent posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF)...

METHODS: Eighty patients with MDS and 80 healthy individuals were included. The serum ADA level was found to be significantly higher in patients with MDS compared with that of healthy controls (p = 0.014). BACKGROUND: Hantaan virus (HTNV), Seoul virus (SEOV) and Puumala virus (PUUV) are major serotypes of the Hantavirus, which can cause hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS). The pathophysiology of HFRS in humans is complex and the determinants associated with mortality, especially the coagulation and fibrinolysis disorders, are still not been fully elucidated. Severe patients usually manifest multiple complications except for acute kidney injury (AKI). The aim of this study was to observe the levels of peripheral blood routine, biochemical and coagulation parameters during the early stage, so as to find independent risk factors closely related to the prognosis, which may provide theoretical basis for targeted treatment and evaluation...

This retrospective cohort study aimed to develop and evaluate a machine-learning algorithm for predicting oliguria, a sign of acute kidney injury (AKI). To this end, electronic health record data from consecutive patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) between 2010 and 2019 were used and oliguria was defined as a urine output of less than 0.5 mL/kg/h. Furthermore, a light-gradient boosting machine was used for model development. Among the 9,241 patients who participated in the study, the proportions of patients with urine output < 0...

UNLABELLED: Alcohol-related hepatitis (AH) is plagued with high mortality and difficulty in identifying at-risk patients. The extracellular matrix undergoes significant remodeling during inflammatory liver injury that can be detected in biological fluids and potentially used for mortality prediction. EDTA plasma samples were collected from AH patients (n= 62); Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) score defined AH severity as moderate (12-20; n=28) and severe (>20; n=34). We analyzed the factors of influencing PPH occurrence in twin vaginal deliveries and developed a nomogram for clinical application. This retrospective study included 274 pregnant women with twin pregnancies who were hospitalized for delivery from January 2014 to December 2018. Pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) is a common complication in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients. Elevated D-dimer levels are observed even in the absence of PTE, reducing its discriminative ability as a screening test. It is unknown whether conventional D-dimer cut-off values, as used in the YEARS algorithm, apply to COVID-19 patients. This study aimed to determine the optimal D-dimer cut-off value to predict PTE in COVID-19 patients. All confirmed COVID-19 patients with a computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) performed ≤5 days after admission due to suspicion of PTE between March 2020 and February 2021, at Medisch Spectrum Twente, The Netherlands, were retrospectively analyzed...

TMT proteomics analysis on serum samples was conducted to identify proteins with distinct expression levels that may be linked to thrombosis. Lung macrophages are the first line of defense against invading respiratory pathogens including SARS-CoV-2, yet activation of macrophage in the lungs can lead to hyperinflammatory immune response seen in severe COVID-19. Here we used human M1 and M2 polarized macrophages as a surrogate model of inflammatory and regulatory macrophages and explored whether immune complexes (IC) containing spike-specific IgG can trigger aberrant cytokine responses in macrophages in the lungs and associated lymph nodes. We show that IC of SARS-CoV-2 recombinant S protein coated with spike-specific monoclonal antibody induced production of Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in non-polarized (M0) and in M1 and M2-type polarized human macrophages only in the presence of D-dimer (DD), a fibrinogen degradation product, associated with coagulopathy in COVID-19...
