The aim of our study is to enhance the awareness of blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) through the patients in our hospital and introduced a new measure of endoscopic intervention.A retrospective review of 5 patients, who were diagnosed as BRBNS in our hospital from January 2013 to January 2017, was conducted. Data were collected with regard to demographics, clinical presentation, endoscopic and imaging findings, management, and follow-up data.In total of 5 patients, the mean age was 28.8 years, range 16 to 44 years (male/female, 1/4) with the average initial age of onset 15...

BACKGROUND: The incidence of delayed bleeding after endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for gastric neoplasms is reported to be approximately 5 %. We examined whether postprocedural combined treatment using the coagulation plus artery-selective clipping (2C) method is a useful measure for preventing delayed bleeding after ESD. METHODS: A total of 234 gastric epithelial neoplasms were treated from June 2007 to May 2012. Post-ESD coagulation (PEC) and clipping for part of the vessels was performed for 154 lesions from June 2007 to June 2010...

A 55-year-old female was admitted to Ogikubo Hospital for severe anemia and prolapse of a tumor from the anus, which had developed over 2 years. Rectal examination revealed a giant soft tumor. Endoscopic study revealed a lobulated giant tumor with a granular surface. Gastrografin-enema study showed a giant tumor, which was full of the rectum. Pathological examination showed a well differentiated carcinoma. No other prominent metastatic lesions were demonstrated. The transanal diagnostic resection of rectal cancer was performed in October 2010...

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Intraoperative bleeding is an important determining factor for the technical difficulty and safety of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for gastric neoplasms, which was previously difficult to predict before ESD. In the present study, we investigated whether endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) could be used to preoperatively predict intraoperative bleeding. METHODS: The study included 106 patients who underwent EUS before ESD. EUS was used to evaluate the submucosal vascular structure...

A case is a woman of 81-year-old. She was admitted to our hospital for a close examination of anemia from her family doctor. Gastroscopy revealed a 15 mm diameter of the type 0-IIa+IIc lesion at the posterior wall to the lesser curvature of the gastric body. And the biopsy of the lesion revealed a moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma (tub2). In consideration of the gastrectomy at this point, but firstly, an endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) was planned to perform for gaining the total pathological diagnosis of the lesion...

PURPOSE: Energy-based surgical devices (ESDs) are critical for maintaining hemostasis during laparoscopy; however, there are no studies that have evaluated the function of ESDs under different physiologic conditions. We evaluated the effect of intraluminal vessel content on bursting pressure (BP) after ligation with two ESDs: the Harmonic ACE and the LigaSure V. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Bursting trials were performed on the vasculature of 24 pigs. Blood vessels were distended with blood of different hematocrit concentrations or an albumin solution of varying protein content...

Left ventricular size and function were evaluated in 15 anemic chronic hemodialysis patients before and after the administration of recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO). All patients were studied with two-dimensional and M-mode echocardiographic examinations before the initiation of rHuEPO (T1) and at 28 +/- 7 weeks of rHuEPO therapy (T2). The two-dimensional targeted M-mode echocardiographic measurements obtained were: end-diastolic dimension (EDD); end-systolic dimension (ESD); stroke dimension (SD); dimensional shortening (SD/EDD); systolic posterior wall thickness (PWs); diastolic posterior and interventricular septal thickness; end-systolic wall stress (ESWS); and left ventricular mass...
