The authors describe a method for electrochemical synthesis of a nanocomposite consisting of carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes, polythionine and platinum nanoparticles (denoted as cMWCNT@pTh@Pt). The composite was placed on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) to obtain a sensor for simultaneous determination of myricetin and rutin by differential pulse voltammetry, with typical peak voltages of 0.16 and 0.34 V (vs. SCE). Under optimal conditions, the modified GCE has a linear response in the range of 0...

Spectroscopy of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is nowadays widely used in the field of bio-science and medicine. These applications require new enhancing substrates with special properties. They should be non-toxic, environmentally friendly and (bio-) compatible with examined samples. Flavonoids are natural antioxidants with many positive effects on human health. Simultaneously, they can be used as reducing agent in preparation procedure of plasmonic enhancing substrate for SERS spectroscopy. The best amplifiers of Raman vibrational spectroscopic signal are generally silver nanoparticles (AgNPs)...

The large-scale manufacturing and use of titanium dioxide (TiO2 ) particles in food and consumer products significantly increase the likelihood of human exposure and release into the environment. We present a simple and innovative approach to rapidly identify the type (anatase or rutile), as well as to estimate, the size and concentration of TiO2 particles using Raman spectroscopy and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). The identification and discrimination of rutile and anatase were based on their intrinsic Raman signatures...

Myricetin - a natural flavonoid - has attracted a great interest due to its antioxidant and free-radical scavenging potential. However, its physicochemical instability critically impairs its dosage form design, evaluation and administration. In an attempt to protect from degradation, MYR was encapsulated into Gelucire-based solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs). The impact of medium pH, processing temperature and different additives on the drug degradation either in free or nanoencapsulated form was assessed. MYR stability was further monitored in essential biorelevant fluids...

A novel and versatile adsorbent based on 1-octadecylimidazolium ionic liquid modified magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4@SiO2@ImC18) possessing of both magnetic property and excellent adsorption ability was successfully synthesized. Twelve compounds from four kinds of substances (alkylbenzenes, PAHs, flavonoids and organic acids) were chosen as probe molecules to evaluate adsorption properties of the new adsorbent. A series of adsorption experiments were conducted and results indicated both synergism and competition effects were existed and multiple interactions took place during adsorption process...

Graphite material is abundantly available from recyclable sources. It possesses a good electrical conductance property, which makes it an attractive material as a working electrode. However, due to a high activation overpotential it has limited applications as compared to other solid metal electrodes. In this present work, we obtained a graphite rod from a used battery, and carried out electrochemical improvements by electro-deposition with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The heterogeneous electron transfer rate and electron transfer resistance of the fabricated electrode were improved...

Although myricetin has various pharmacological applications, it shows low oral bioavailability (<10%) in rats due to its poor aqueous solubility. To overcome this issue, myricetin nanosuspensions were developed and the effects of stabilizers were investigated. Based on the particle size and zeta potential, stabilizers soya lecithin, TPGS, HP-β-CD, and/or a combination thereof were used. The prepared nanosuspensions were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD)...

In this paper, the electrochemical behavior of myricetin on a gold nanoparticle/ethylenediamine/multi-walled carbon-nanotube modified glassy carbon electrode (AuNPs/en/MWCNTs/GCE) has been investigated. Myricetin effectively accumulated on the AuNPs/en/MWCNTs/GCE and caused a pair of irreversible redox peaks at around 0.408 V and 0.191 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) in 0.1 mol L-1 phosphate buffer solution (pH 3.5) for oxidation and reduction reactions respectively. The heights of the redox peaks were significantly higher on AuNPs/en/MWNTs/GCE compare with MWCNTs/GC and there was no peak on bare GC...

To date more than 4000 compounds are recognized to belong to the class of flavonoids. These natural phenolic drugs are poorly soluble in water and are rapidly degraded and metabolized in the human body, but nevertheless are very promising for their potential contribution to the prevention and therapy of major chronic diseases, including cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. In recent years a number of flavanols (e.g. catechins), flavonols (e.g. quercetin, myricetin) and isoflavones (e.g...
