The present work aims to establish a guide to action, agreed by anaesthesiologists and neurophysiologists alike, to perform effective intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring for procedures presenting a risk of functional neurological injury, and neurosurgical procedures. The first section discusses the main techniques currently used for intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring. The second exposes the anaesthetic and non-anaesthetic factors that are likely to affect the electrical records of the nervous system structures...

Subclinical hepatic encephalopathy (SHE) is a serious clinical problem in patiens with liver damage and precise pathophisiological mechanisms resonsible for encephalopathy are not fully understood. Is definied as a spectrum of neuropsychiatric abnormalities in patients with liver dysfunction after exclusion of other known brain disease. Recent date have shown that increased CNS (central nervous system) ammonia concentration and presence of mild diffuse brain oedema plays a key role in the pathogenesis of SHE...

COMPARATIVE STUDY

Authors examined 126 patients with chronic tension headaches. Patients were divided in two groups: general and control. The control group received conventional therapy (tizanidin, fluoxetin, vinpocetin, manual acupressure active points of m. trapezius and temporo-mastoideus part of the head); in the group besides standard medicines was used mexidol. Before and after the treatment clinical neurophisiological examination was done, including electroneuromyography. Increasing evidence suggests that combination of basic medications with mexidol is the most effective method for treating TH...

Neurophysiological study of all links of afferent somatosensory systems in neuropathies of different genesis was conducted. Patients with alcoholic (APN) and diabetic (DNP) polyneuropathies have been examined and selected as follows: 19 patients with intensive spontaneous pain syndrome (scoring over 6 on VAS); 20--without pain; 22 patients with allodiny caused by neuropathic pain and 38--without allodiny. Control group included 20 healthy subjects. Symptom complex of pain syndrome encompassed pronounced disorders of cutaneous sensitivity, minus symptoms in deep sensory sphere and high depression level...

Early onset multiple sclerosis (MS) has some peculiarities in the disease course. 56 patients with definite MS with the onset at the age under 15 years were included in this clinical, immunogenetical and neurophisiological study. The analyses of the relations between different clinical characteristics of MS in children has shown, that patients with onset under 10 years, had rare relapses, but more progressive development of disability in contrast to the patients with MS onset at the age of 11-15 years. Duration of the first remission was associated with the time to sustained disability in children with MS...

RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL

PURPOSE: We performed a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial to assess the efficacy of glutathione (GSH) in the prevention of cisplatin (CDDP)-induced neurotoxicity. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Fifty patients with advanced gastric cancer treated with a weekly CDDP-based regimen were included in this study. In patients randomized to receive GSH, GSH was given at a dose of 1.5 g/m2 in 100 mL of normal saline solution over a 15-minute period immediately before CDDP administration, and at a dose of 600 mg by intramuscular injection on days 2 to 5...

This paper comparates classic experimental "model psychosis" psychodysleptic induced and psychotic adverse reactions to psychodysleptic habitude or episodic use as clinically observed. Biochemical, neurophisiological and psychopathological back-ground of psychodysleptic states and clinical data are discussed in the aiming to investigate and explain interaction between cognitif and affectif destructuration in spreading off a psychotic crises. A multidisciplinary approach provides new insight about destructuration processes in exogenous or endogenous psychoses and about mental developmental in child...
