OBJECTIVE: To explore the advantages of self made minimally invasive hook assisted transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) via modified bilateral Wiltse approach in the treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases. METHODS: The clinical data of 140 patients underwent lumbar spine fusion surgery from October 2016 to October 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. Among them, 72 cases were treated by self-made minimally invasive hook-assisted TLIF via modified bilateral Wiltse approach (group A), there were 37 males and 35 females, aged (48±16) years old;68 cases were treated by TLIF via traditional posterior median approach (group B ), there were 38 males and 30 females, aged (45±15) years old...

OBJECTIVE: By observing the effect of inner-heating acupuncture on the expression of Wnt1, Axin and β-catenin in the intervertebral disc of rats with lumbar degenerative disease and to explore the regulatory mechanism of inner-heating acupuncture on the apoptosis of annulus fibrosus cells in rats with lumbar degenerative disease. METHODS: Forty SD rats were randomly divided into normal group, model group, inner heating acupuncture group and acupuncture group with 10 rats in each group...

INTRODUCTION: Cauda equina syvndrome from lumbar disc herniation accounts for up to 2-3% of all disc herniations. The aim of this study was to investigate whether recovery of bladder function after surgery depends on preoperative duration of desease. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This retrospective study included 47 patients who underwent surgery for cauda equina syndrome due to a herniated disc in the period between 1997 and 2002. Eleven patients were female and 36 male, with a mean age of 43 years (range 23-67)...

Recently, on the basis of in vitro experiments, a number of workers have suggested that degenerative disk desease may have an autoimmune basis. In order to corroborate these findings, a histopathologic study was undertaken on 218 specimens. A series of 108 Schmorl's nodes and 110 intervertebral disks obtained at laminectomy were examined for an immune-reaction type of inflammatory cellular infiltrate. While no inflammatory cellular infiltrates were found in any of the specimens, there were granulation tissue ingrowths and vascular invasion...
