The balance of efficacy and safety of topical corticosteroids (TCs) depends on their ability to penetrate into and be retained within the skin. Here, we evaluated the ability of SPACE™ peptide to enhance epidermal delivery and localization of three model TCs. In vitro and in vivo skin penetration studies were performed to evaluate penetration of TCs into and across the skin in the presence of various formulations of SPACE™ peptide. Topical formulations of corticosterone containing free SPACE™ peptide produced significantly enhanced epidermal penetration and localization...

REVIEW
D Nedin, A Aleksandrova
According to the literature data the modern concepts of the etiological factors, the pathomorphological features, the diagnosis, the clinical features and the treatment of the drug-induced and the idiopathic pancreatitis, accompanying the IBD are reviewed. The results of a retrospective review of the clinical data of 50 patients, operated on--16 with Crohn's disease and 34 with ulcerative colitis, are shown. Postoperative hyperamylasemia was found in 2 patients with Crohn's disease and in 3 patients with ulcerative colitis...

The high observed incidence of 'frozen shoulder', and cortizone treatment, prompted the author to make further enquiries linking the complaint to machine tool operation.

Skin irritation due to iontophoresis may limit the frequency of use of devices for drug delivery or transdermal extraction of analytes of clinical interest. This study examined whether preapplication of corticosteroid preparations could reduce skin irritation from iontophoresis used by the GlucoWatch G2 Biographer (Cygnus, Inc., Redwood City, CA) in monitoring interstitial glucose levels frequently and automatically. Numerous corticosteroid preparations were screened to identify formulations that did not interfere with adhesion of the Biographer to the skin or glucose sensing...

Results are presented on the effect of immunosuppressive substances such as chlorambucil, cyclophosphamide, azathioprine, amethopterine and a cortizone derivate of betamethasone, on the development of Fasciola hepatica in the rat. The suppression of the immune response of the host to immunosuppressants was reflected in an earlier start of migration of the flukes to the common bile duct, and in an earlier onset of egg production as compared with that in the controls. Of the substances employed, cyclophosphamide and betamethasone were the most effective ones within the period from week 2--6 p...

The complications of immunosuppresive therapy that occurred in a series of renal transplant patients presented were many. Of the total 28 renal transplants performed in Sarajevo, 25 were observed. These complications were diagnosed in 19 cases (6 of which exited), Death in each case was due to virual and not bacterial infection which occurred most often in the lungs. No urinary infections occured in any of these cases. The actual cause of death in most of the patients was most frequently due to pneumocystis and alveo-capillary block of the lungs which is very difficult to diagnose...
