BACKGROUND: Paediatric rotary file systems have recently been developed for primary teeth use. AIM: To study the cleaning efficacies of two paediatric rotary endodontic files, the Prime PedoTM , and the Kedo-SG BlueTM against the standard H files. DESIGN: This in vitro study included 54 freshly extracted primary molars, which were randomised into three groups (n = 18 each) and were prepared using either Kedo-SG BlueTM , Prime PedoTM or hand H files after injecting methylene blue dye into the canals...

BACKGROUND: Pituitary imaging is often required to exclude an adenoma suspected clinically or biochemically. Although magnetic resonance (MR) is the gold standard, computerised tomography (CT) is faster, cheaper and induces less claustrophobia. Our audit at Auckland City Hospital, New Zealand, investigated whether the use of CT of the pituitary as the first line imaging to assess for a pituitary macroadenoma reduces the need for MR. METHODS: We investigated the usefulness of CT pituitary imaging in the exclusion of pituitary macroadenoma between 2012 and 2020...

Lung cancer (LC) causes few symptoms in the earliest stages, leading to one of the highest mortality rates among cancers. Low-dose computerised tomography (LDCT) is used to screen high-risk individuals, reducing the mortality rate by 20%. However, LDCT results in a high number of false positives and is associated with unnecessary follow-up and cost. Biomarkers with high sensitivities and specificities could assist in the early detection of LC, especially in patients with high-risk features. Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), cytokeratin 19 fragments, and cancer antigen 125 have been found to be highly expressed during the later stages of LC but have low sensitivity in the earliest stages...

INTRODUCTION: Around 9-25% of ischemic strokes are embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS) with an annual recurrence risk of 4.5-5%. Regarding ESUS, studies from India are limited. Here, we studied the prevalence of cryptogenic ESUS among stroke subtypes, recurrence risk and outcome at 1 year, and their predictors. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed a single-center study of ambispective nature. Patients above 18 years of age with a diagnosis of cryptogenic (ESUS) strokes from January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2020 (4 years), with a 1-year follow-up were recruited in our study...

BACKGROUND: It is not clearly defined in the literature how the lowest instrumented vertebra (LIV) selection effects the rotation of lumbar vertebrae at fused and unfused levels in thoracolumbar/lumbar (TL/L) curves. The aim of this study was to evaluate the rotational profile of structural TL/L curves, corrected with rod derotation manoeuvre, according to LIV level. METHODS: 82 consecutive AIS patients with structural TL/L curves who were treated with long segment posterior instrumentation and fusion were retrospectively evaluated...

PURPOSE: A "cut and push" (CP) approach has been described in the literature for removal of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tubes. The aim of this study is to investigate the safety profile of this method in children. METHOD: Our study included all children who underwent CP procedure for either removal or replacement of Freka PEG tube at our centre between January 2016 and August 2021. Glenoid bone loss associated with abnormal glenoid morphology can be encountered in complex primary and revision reverse shoulder arthroplasty. Strategies to deal with this include allografts, augments and custom-made prostheses. We describe a unique case of a long-standing neglected posterior fracture dislocation of the shoulder with severe glenoid bone loss and retroversion. The patient also had malunited acromial and scapula fractures and an associated rotator cuff tear. The primary challenges were access to the shoulder joint due to the malunited fractures, reconstruction of the dysplastic glenoid and providing joint stability...

BACKGROUND: Nurse practitioners undertake advanced assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients, including requesting and interpretation of diagnostic imaging. It is unclear what evidence exists related to the quality use of radiological investigations by NPs in recent years. BACKGROUND: Non-contrast Computerised Tomography (NCCT) of brain is the gold standard investigation for diagnosis and management of Traumatic brain injury (TBI). Asymmetrical CT brain images as a result of improper head positioning in the CT gantry will compromise the diagnostic value. Therefore, this audit aimed to assess the degree of asymmetry in CT brain studies carried out in TBI patients. METHODS: This audit was carried out at a level one trauma centre and included CT scans of TBI patients with a Glasgow come scale (GCS) score ≤ 13, admitted to the Neurological intensive care unit (NICU)...

INTRODUCTION: Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune disease characterised by arterious and venous thrombosis, miscarriage, and the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) in the blood. As we know, APS is also characterised by accelerated atherosclerotic degeneration with an increased risk of thrombosis in all blood vessels, including the carotid arteries. Carotid artery stenosis can manifest in many different ways. The aim of this study is to present the results of our multidetector computerised tomography angiography (MDCTA) analysis of the carotid arteries in patients with primary and secondary APS compared with a control group...

BACKGROUND: Aortic mural thrombus is a rare acute aortic syndrome that can present with embolism to a distal organ. No guidelines or randomized evidence exist to guide therapy for patients with aortic mural thrombus. This case describes the diagnosis and management of a pseudoaneurysm of the right labial artery. A 25-year-old primigravida woman at 33 weeks and 4 days of gestation delivered a live infant vaginally. Rationale: Clinical trials have shown that use of elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ETI) is associated with improvements in sweat chloride, pulmonary function, nutrition, and quality of life in people with cystic fibrosis (CF). Little is known about the impact of ETI on ventilation inhomogeneity and lung structure. Objectives: RECOVER is a real-world study designed to measure the impact of ETI in people with CF.
