Uterine myomas, fibroids or leiomyomas are benign neoplasms that can present as abnormal uterine bleeding and pressure symptoms. Significant complications are infrequent, but they can be life-threatening. This is a case of a ruptured fibroid where excessive intra-abdominal bleeding resulted in hemoperitoneum. In this clinical scenario, timely recognition and intervention were essential to prevent morbidity and mortality. This article discusses the diagnostic challenges and surgical management of a case of hemoperitoneum resulting from spontaneous haemorrhage from a ruptured vessel on the surface of a subserosal leiomyoma...

Gastroepiploic artery aneurysms and pseudoaneurysms pose diagnostic challenges due to their rarity and overlapping radiological features. This case report presents an 82-year-old woman with sudden-onset severe abdominal pain with computed tomography revealing hemoperitoneum and saccular dilations adjacent to the stomach's greater curvature, suggestive of vascular pathology. Selective abdominal arteriography confirmed three saccular dilatations in the gastroepiploic artery, which were managed successfully with coil embolization...

Late-onset psychosis refers to the development of psychotic symptoms after the age of 40 and can encompass various conditions like schizophrenia, mood disorders with psychotic features, and delusional disorder. Non-pharmacological interventions are critically important in older adults with psychosis, especially considering the lack of evidence for the efficacy of antipsychotics and the high risk of side effects. Social isolation is recognized as one of the risks of late-onset psychosis, and interventions to eliminate this risk are becoming increasingly important in Japan, where social isolation among older people is widespread as society ages...

Abdominal pain ranks as the predominant cause for emergency department consultations. Although rare, transvaginal evisceration of the small intestine necessitates immediate surgical intervention due to its potential to induce intestinal ischemia and peritonitis. Key risk factors include postmenopausal status, a history of gynecologic surgery, and heightened abdominal pressure. Clinical presentation typically involves pain and protrusion of intestinal contents or even abdominal viscera. Diagnosis relies on thorough clinical assessment, and treatment strategies should be tailored to each patient...

Anterolisthesis is a condition where a vertebra in the spine slips forward relative to the vertebra below it. Anterolisthesis is often described in terms of the direction of the slippage and the affected vertebrae, such as L5-S1 anterolisthesis, which indicates the slippage occurring between the fifth lumbar vertebra (L5) and the sacral bone (S1). Anterolisthesis can result from various factors, trauma, or congenital abnormalities. The symptoms associated with anterolisthesis can include lower back pain, stiffness, muscle tightness, and neurological symptoms if the slippage compresses nearby nerves...

Arterial dissection is a laceration of an artery or arterial bed, that can extend to contiguous arteries and lead to accumulation of blood providing a great risk for thrombi formation, and possible ischemic events. Celiac artery dissection is a very rare pathology, with an unknown prevalence and a pathophysiology that still needs to be elucidated. Diagnosis has increased in the last decade due to higher imaging modalities and accessibility of such that provide simpler identification, as well as which treatment should be applied to a particular patient...

Hydatidosis is a parasitic disease caused by the larval stage of Echinococcal tapeworm that is endemic in many regions of the world. The subtle and nonspecific nature of the clinical signs frequently results in a delay in diagnosis. Ultrasonography (USG) is the first modality of choice for the diagnosis followed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The detection of a ruptured membrane, observed as low-signal intensity on all pulse sequences, strongly suggests the diagnosis. We report a rare case of a 39-year-old male who presented with fever, pain, and swelling in the right thigh...

Post-mastectomy pain syndrome (PMPS) is a syndrome broadly applied to the development of chronic pain after surgical breast intervention (i.e., lumpectomy and mastectomy). The incidence of PMPS is likely underreported, and this has contributed to a paucity of high-level evidence related to the treatment of the aforementioned condition. A drive to reduce the burden of opioid use has led to pain management physicians trialing a variety of strategies to help patients manage PMPS. This review discusses the latest evidence behind treatment options for PMPS, exploring medications as well as interventional techniques (e...

Herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO) manifests as a consequence of the reactivation of the Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) and primarily affects the ophthalmic division of the trigeminal nerve. Identification of the vesicular eruption is central to the diagnostic process; however, the delayed manifestation of this cutaneous phenomenon poses a challenge to timely and accurate diagnosis. This report elucidates the case of a 61-year-old Japanese male with painful trigeminal neuropathy attributed to VZV that was initially diagnosed as cluster headache, mainly due to the delayed cutaneous eruption...
