BACKGROUND: The MYCN copy number category is closely related to the prognosis of neuroblastoma (NB). Therefore, this study aimed to assess the predictive ability of 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18 F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) radiomic features for MYCN copy number in NB. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on 104 pediatric patients with NB that had been confirmed by pathology. To develop the Bio-omics model (B-model), which incorporated clinical and biological aspects, PET/CT radiographic features, PET quantitative parameters, and significant features with multivariable stepwise logistic regression were preserved...

AIMS: The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) audit of radical radiotherapy (RR) for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in 2013 concluded that there was under-treatment compared to international comparators and marked variability between cancer networks. Elderly patients were less likely to receive guideline recommended treatments. Access to technological developments was low. Various national and local interventions have since taken place. This study aims to re-assess national practice...

A 60-year-old man presented with a painless, rapidly growing, haemorrhagic pink nodule on the posterior of his thigh that had developed 1 month previously. He had a diagnosis of IgA nephropathy and had received a renal allograft 7 years before. An excisional biopsy was performed and the diagnosis of Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) was made. No distant metastases was detected. 10 months after first presentation, due to the development of acute pancytopenia and concomitant FDG PET/CT findings compatible with disease progression, bone marrow biopsy was performed which revealed metastasis of MCC...

Visceral adiposity is known to be related to poor prognosis in patients with cholangiocarcinoma; however, the prognostic significance of the qualitative features of adipose tissue in cholangiocarcinoma has yet to be well defined. This study investigated the prognostic impact of adipose tissue imaging parameters reflecting the quantity and qualitative characteristics of subcutaneous (SAT) and visceral (VAT) adipose tissue on recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) in 94 patients undergoing resection of cholangiocarcinoma...

Bone metastasis has been reported in up to 70% of patients with advanced breast cancer. A total of 55.76% of skeletal metastases in women were derived from breast cancer. However, patients with bone metastasis from an occult primary breast cancer are a rare subset of patients. Here, we present the case of a 38-year-old woman who had sternum pain for 4 months. A whole-body PET-CT scan revealed that the FDG uptake of both the sternum and internal mammary node was significantly increased. The final diagnosis of occult breast cancer was established by immunohistochemical (IHC) staining, which is of great significance for identifying the origin of a metastatic tumor despite no visualized lesions of mammary glands...

(1) Background: PSMA ligand PET/CT is increasingly important for diagnostics of prostate cancer and other tumor diseases. In particular, the radiopharmaceutical [68 Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 is widely used. Besides its tumor-specific binding, the uptake within the kidneys is dominant and seems to visualize the renal cortex specifically. Kidney diseases may alter the uptake of radiopharmaceuticals. Therefore, the correlation between renal uptake in PET/CT imaging and renal function should be investigated. (2) Methods: A group of 103 male patients were retrospectively evaluated for eGFR according to the CKD-EPI equation, tracer uptake intensity (SUVmax , SUVpeak , SUVmean ), the molecular volume of the renal cortex, morphological kidney size, and total renal uptake...

BACKGROUND: (4 S )-4-(3-[18 F]fluoropropyl)-L-glutamic acid ([18 F]FSPG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) provides a readout of system xc - transport activity and has been used for cancer detection in clinical studies of different cancer types. As system xc - provides the rate-limiting precursor for glutathione biosynthesis, an abundant antioxidant, [18 F]FSPG imaging may additionally provide important prognostic information. Here, we performed an analysis of [18 F]FSPG radiotracer distribution between primary tumors, metastases, and normal organs from cancer patients...

Thyroid cancer poses a significant challenge in clinical management, necessitating precise diagnostic tools and treatment strategies for optimal patient outcomes. This review explores the evolving field of radiotracers in the diagnosis and management of thyroid cancer, focusing on prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-based radiotracers, fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (FAPI)-based radiotracers, Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD)-based radiotracers, and 18 F-tetrafluoroborate (18 F-TFB). PSMA-based radiotracers, initially developed for prostate cancer imaging, have shown promise in detecting thyroid cancer lesions; however, their detection rate is lower than 18 F-FDG PET/CT...

BACKGROUND: 18 F-FDG PET/CT is performed for the assessment of radioactive iodine non-avid disease in patients with DTC. In patients prepared by THW, increased pituitary uptake of 18 F-FDG in the absence of pituitary disease may reflect the physiological activation of pituitary thyrotroph cells by hypothyroidism. This study aimed to compare pituitary 18 F-FDG uptake in patients with DTC under THW vs. rhTSH stimulation. METHODS: A total of 57 patients with DTC undergoing 18 F-FDG PET/CT (40 under THW and 17 under rhTSH stimulation) were retrospectively analyzed...

BACKGROUND: Neuroblastoma (NB) is the most prevalent solid extracranial malignancy in children, often with bone marrow metastases (BMM) are present. The conventional approach for detecting BMM is bone marrow biopsy and aspiration (BMBA). 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18 F-FDG PET/CT) has become a staple for staging and is also capable of evaluating marrow infiltration. The consensus on the utility of 18 F-FDG PET/CT for assessing BMM in NB patients is still under deliberation...

In the BPL, the regularization parameter β was varied to identify the optimum value for image quality. In the OSEM-PSF, the effect of acquisition time was evaluated to assess the feasibility of shortened scan duration.

Chemokines and chemokine receptors are indispensable to play a key role in the development of malignant tumors. As one of the most widely expressed chemokine receptors, chemokine (C-X-C motif) receptor 4 (CXCR4) has been a popular research focus. In most tumors, CXCR4 expression is significantly upregulated. Moreover, integrated nuclide diagnosis and therapy targeting CXCR4 show great potential. [68 Ga]Ga-pentixafor, a radioligand targeting CXCR4, exhibits a strong affinity for CXCR4 both in vivo and in vitro...

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumors affecting the gastrointestinal tract. Typically, GISTs are solitary; however, in rare cases, they may be multiple and appear in one or more organs. Multiple GISTs can appear in familial GISTs, children, or certain tumor syndromes such as neurofibromatosis type 1, Carney syndrome, and Carney-Stratakis syndrome. However, the diagnosis of primary multiple sporadic GISTs is often more difficult than that of these diseases. Herein, we report a case of multiple primary sporadic GISTs in a 64-year-old man, affecting the abdominal cavity and retroperitoneum, as identified through dual-time point positron emission tomography (PET) with 18 F-labeled fluoro-2-deoxyglucose (18 F-FDG) and computed tomography (18 F-FDG PET/CT)...
