TENIS (thyroglobulin elevation with negative iodine scintigraphy) syndrome in patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma is not a rare finding. In such patients, F-FDG PET/CT can help in disease evaluation. RGD tripeptide, used for imaging angiogenesis, may also help in disease detection in patients with negative radioiodine whole-body scan. We present 1 such case in whom Ga-RGD tripeptide imaging was helpful in disease detection in the setting of negative radioiodine whole-body scan.

Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a benign bone lesion with a rare but potential for malignant transformation. Neither Tc-MDP nor F-FDG PET/CT can differentiate between FD and areas of malignant transformation in FD. We described a case of osteosarcoma developing in FD with selective uptake of tracer in malignant transformation areas demonstrated on a Ga-PSMA PET/CT scan. Our case highlights the ability of Ga-PSMA PET/CT to map tumor neoangiogenesis in osteosarcoma arising in FD, which can have potential implications in prognostication, possibility of antiangiogenesis-based therapeutic options, and in response assessment following chemotherapy...

OBJECTIVE: The non-invasive diagnosis of endometriosis remains challenging. Recent data suggested that somatostatin might be involved in its pathogenesis. High sensitive visualization of somatostatin receptors expression is possible using PET-CT imaging after the administration of a (68)Ga-labeled somatostatin analog (DOTATATE) that will bind to the somatostatin receptor sub-types 2 and 5. The aim of the present study was to assess the usefulness of (68)Ga-DOTATATE PET-CT in the diagnosis of endometriosis...

The majority of tumor-induced osteomalacia cases have been reported in the Northern Hemisphere and Asia. In this first series of South American patients, we show that the clinical presentation and sensitivity of plasmatic fibroblast growth factor 23 and somatostatin analog-based imaging are similar to those described in other populations. INTRODUCTION: Describe the experience of clinical presentation, diagnostic study, and treatment of patients with tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO) in a South American academic center in comparison to literature...

The precise assessment of pressure ulcer extension in patients with neurological diseases has crucial therapeutic implications, especially in the early detection of fistula to interior structures and osteomyelitis. Two case reports are presented on patients with a similar ischial ulcer, in whom an (18)F-FDG PET/CT study enabled a precise assessment of infectious complications in underlying tissues. These cases support the implementation of (18)F-FDG PET/CT as a first-line technique in their management.

Imaging with positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) is crucial in the management of cancer because of its value in tumor staging, response assessment, restaging, prognosis and treatment responsiveness prediction. In the last years, interest has grown in texture analysis which provides an "in-vivo" lesion characterization, and predictive information in several malignances including NSCLC; however several drawbacks and limitations affect these studies, especially because of lack of standardization in features calculation, definitions and methodology reporting...

Metastatic infection is an important complication of Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia (SAB). Early diagnosis of metastatic infection is crucial, as specific treatment is required. However, metastatic infection can be asymptomatic and difficult to detect. In this study, we investigated the role of (18)F-FDG-PET/CT in patients with SAB for detection of metastatic infection and its consequences for treatment and outcome. Methods: All patients with SAB at Radboud university medical center were included between January 2013 and April 2016...

Rationale: Pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma (PPGL) syndromes associated with polycythemia have previously been described in association with mutations in the von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) gene. Recently, mutations in the prolyl hydroxylase gene (PHD) 1 and 2 and in the hypoxia-inducible factor 2 alpha (HIF2A) were also found to be associated with multiple and recurrent PPGL. Such patients also presented with PPGL and polycythemia, and later on, some presented with duodenal somatostatinoma. In additional patients presenting with PPGL and polycythemia, no further mutations have been discovered...

(18)F-THK-5351 is a novel radiotracer that demonstrates high binding selectivity and affinity for tau pathology and exhibits better pharmacokinetics in the living brain than previous THK tau probes. The aim of the present study was to estimate the radiation dose of (18)F-THK-5351 in humans and to compare the clinical radiation dosimetry results to estimations published previously with preclinical data. Methods: Serial whole-body positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging was performed for 240 min on 12 healthy volunteers after injecting (18)F-THK-5351 (mean administered activity: 377...

OBJECTIVE: Mendelian randomization studies revealed a causal role for remnant cholesterol in cardiovascular disease. Remnant particles accumulate in the arterial wall, potentially propagating local and systemic inflammation. We evaluated the impact of remnant cholesterol on arterial wall inflammation, circulating monocytes, and bone marrow in patients with familial dysbetalipoproteinemia (FD). APPROACH AND RESULTS: Arterial wall inflammation and bone marrow activity were measured using (18)F-FDG PET/CT...

INTRODUCTION: Accurate tumor-node-metastasis(TNM) staging of oral cavity cancer(OCC) is very important in the management of this dismal disease. However, stage migration from cTNM to pTNM was found in a portion of OCC patients. The objective of this study was to determine the possible causes of discrepancy between cTNM and pTNM in OCC and the clinical impacts of stage migration. METHODS: Clinical and pathological data of 252 OCC patients were retrospectively reviewed and compared each other...

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the utility of combined PET/CT for the detection of early local tumor progression after cryoablation of bone metastases. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective single-institution review revealed 61 consecutive patients with 80 separate bone metastases treated with cryoablation who were evaluated with a preablation PET/CT and at least two postablation PET/CT examinations between September 2007 and July 2015. Patients were excluded if they had local therapy or pathologic fracture after ablation...

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. The major goal in lung cancer research is the improvement of long-term survival. Pulmonary nodules have high clinical importance, they may not only prove to be an early manifestation of lung cancer, but decide to choose the right therapy. This review will introduce the development and current situation of several imaging examination methods: computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT), endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS)...

Integrated positron-emission tomography-magnetic resonance imaging (PET-MRI) is a new hybrid simultaneous imaging modality with higher soft tissue contrast and lower radiation doses compared with PET-CT. Two patients who were referred to our hospital with left breast masses that were pathologically diagnosed as invasive ductal carcinoma. The women were then scanned using the first PET-MRI system in Turkey, which was established in our department. In this case report, we aimed to determine the advantages of PET-MRI in staging, follow-up, neoadjuvant chemotherapy response, and to compare the usefulness of this modality with PET-CT and dynamic contrast-enhanced breast MRI...

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the advantage of scatter limitation correction with misregistration between μ-map in the computed tomography attenuation correction and positron emission tomography in PET/CT study. METHODS: We used torso phantom including simulated tumor and arms phantom. The CT scan was performed by changing the position of arms phantom after PET scan. Arms phantom movement was out-side direction, in-side direction, and top-side direction by 1-12 cm, respectively...
