REVIEW
J Holle, M Leichsenring, P E Meissner
Scedosporium infections are rare complications in immunocompromised patients or patients with chronic pulmonary disease. While Scedosporium prolificans is resistant to most antimycotics, Scedosporium apiospermum is usually sensitive to voriconazole and posaconazole. Pharmacokinetics and efficacy of nebulized voriconazole have been described in a murine model previously. We report for the first time the safe and effective use of nebulized voriconazole for the treatment of severe pulmonary infection with Scedosporium apiospermum in an adolescent with cystic fibrosis...

The technology of multislice X-ray computed tomography (MSCT) provides volume data sets with approximately isotropic resolution, which permits a noninvasive 3-D measurement and quantification of airway geometry. In different diseases, like emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or cystic fribrosis, changes in lung parenchyma are associated with an increase in airway wall thickness. In this paper, we describe an objective measuring method of the airway geometry in the 3-D space. The limited spatial resolution of clinical CT scanners in comparison to thin structures like airway walls causes difficulties in the measurement of the density and the thickness of these structures...

COMPARATIVE STUDY
M Kattan, A Mansell, H Levison, M Corey, I R Krastins
The responses of 20 patients with cystic fribrosis to a B2 agonist, salbutamol, to an anticholinergic agent, SCH 1000, and to a placebo containing difluorodichloroethane and soya lecithin delivered by metered aerosol were compared. Flow rates decreased significantly after placebo (p < 0.05). FEV1 increased significantly after salbutamol (p < 0.05), but the degree of these changes was small. There was a small but significant increase in FVC but no change in flow rates after SCH 1000. Specific conductance increased significantly (p < 0...

Use Boolean operators: AND/OR

diabetic AND foot
diabetes OR diabetic

Exclude a word using the 'minus' sign

Virchow -triad

Use Parentheses

water AND (cup OR glass)

Add an asterisk (*) at end of a word to include word stems

Neuro* will search for Neurology, Neuroscientist, Neurological, and so on

Use quotes to search for an exact phrase

"primary prevention of cancer"
(heart or cardiac or cardio*) AND arrest -"American Heart Association"
