BACKGROUND: We report a case of personalized exclusive brachytherapy treatment for the management of a highly recurrent squamous cell conjunctival carcinoma with corneal invasion. CASE DESCRIPTION: This is a case of a Caucasian 81-years-old man who presented 10 years ago to our clinic with a pink-white para-limbal mass with dilated feeder arteries and mild leukoplakia. Excisional biopsy confirmed the presence of conjunctival intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). Successively, he underwent two 4-weeks cycles of Mytomicin C topical therapy and a second excisional surgery, due to several recurrences of the lesion...

Approximately 95% of cervical squamous cell carcinomas are associated with high-risk HPV, with a small number of HPV-independent tumors. However, low-risk HPV types have also been detected in rare cervical squamous cell carcinomas. Low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion-related changes are a rare morphologic finding in cervical squamous cell carcinoma. We present the case of a 30-yr-old woman who presented with pelvic pain and foul-smelling vaginal discharge showing an exophytic lesion protruding from the cervix...

OBJECTIVE: High-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection is a leading cause of cervical cancer, of which human papillomavirus (HPV)-16 and HPV-18 account for about 70% of cases. Since HPV infection is common, it is important to focus on the HPV genotypes that pose the highest risk for effective cervical cancer screening. In this study, we evaluated the clinical usefulness of HPV-16/HPV-18 genotyping for cervical cancer screening. METHODS: A total of 86,022 women aged 25 years or older was analyzed in this study...

Synchronous primary neoplasms of Meckel's diverticulum and colon malignancies are rarely reported in the literature. We present three patients with synchronous primary neoplasms of Meckel's diverticulum and colon malignancies. All tumors located in Meckel's diverticulum were incidentally found at laparotomy and the definitive diagnosis was made with microscopic examination of surgical specimens. Synchronous primary neoplasms of Meckel's diverticulum and colon malignancies are rarely encountered. Moreover, this is the first case of synchronous colon cancer and pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PanIN) arising from pancreatic heterotopia within Meckel's diverticulum...

Methylation markers have shown potential for triaging high-risk HPV-positive (hrHPV+) women to identify those at increased risk of invasive cervical cancer (ICC). Our aim was to assess the performance of the S5 DNA methylation classifier for predicting incident high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and ICC among hrHPV+ women in the ARTISTIC screening trial cohort. The S5 classifier, comprising target regions of tumour suppressor gene EPB41L3 and L1 and L2 regions of HPV16, HPV18, HPV31, and HPV33, was assayed by pyrosequencing in archived hrHPV+ liquid-based samples from 343 women with high-grade disease (139 CIN2, 186 CIN3, and 18 ICC) compared to 800 hrHPV+ controls...

Fallopian tube pathology in patients with BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations suggests a possible pathway to high grade serous ovarian carcinoma originates with a p53 signature, which is thought to represent a potential precursor to serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma (STIC). The clinical implications of an isolated p53 signature in the average-risk population has not been well-established. This study aims to describe clinical outcomes in patients with incidentally noted p53 signature lesions. All patients diagnosed with a p53 signature lesion on final pathology from 2014 to 2022 were identified at a large academic institution...

Background. Tripartite motif-containing 22 (TRIM22) is characterized by a canonical RING domain with ubiquitin E3 ligase activity and is closely associated with tumorigenesis. As a product of TRIM22 transcription, whether hsa_circ_TRIM22 has a function of regulating tumorigenesis is unclear. Thus, we aimed to explore the role and mechanism of hsa_circ_TRIM22 in human papillomavirus (HPV) 16 positive cervical cancer (CC). Methods. We collected HPV16-positive cervical tissues including chronic cervicitis, high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL), low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL), and CC, and along with CC cell lines to detect the hsa_circ_TRIM22 level using real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR)...

A 29-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital for examination of obstructive jaundice and an extrahepatic bile duct lesion. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed a 20 mm cystic lesion with a thin external capsule in the common hepatic duct. Cholangioscopy revealed translucent oval masses with capillary vessels attached to the bile duct walls. The surface was mostly smooth yet partially irregular with redness, suggesting that the masses were epithelial neoplasms. Histological findings of cholangioscopy-guided targeted biopsies of the mass showed subepithelial spindle cell proliferation with no atypical epithelium...

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a devastating disease with a 5-year survival rate of 12.5%. PDAC predominantly arises from non-cystic pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PanIN) and cystic intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN). We used multiplex immunofluorescence and computational imaging technology to characterize, map, and compare the immune microenvironments (IMEs) of PDAC and its precursor lesions. We demonstrate that the IME of IPMN was abundantly infiltrated with CD8+ T cells and PD-L1-positive antigen-presenting cells (APCs), whereas the IME of PanIN contained fewer CD8+ T cells and fewer PD-L1-positive APCs but elevated numbers of immunosuppressive regulatory T cells (Tregs)...
