BACKGROUND: The EQ-5D is one of the most used generic health-related quality-of-life (HRQOL) instruments worldwide. To make the EQ-5D suitable for use in economic evaluations, a societal-based value set is needed. Indonesia does not have such a value set. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to derive an EQ-5D-5L value set from the Indonesian general population. METHODS: A representative sample aged 17 years and over was recruited from the Indonesian general population...

BACKGROUND: Urinary incontinence is associated with reduced quality of life and given the high prevalence of people with this condition, it could be useful to know the impact of having urinary incontinence on physical, psychological and social aspects. The Spanish value set of EQ-5D was used to assign single scores to the EQ-5D-5L health states. EQ-5D-5L is a health-related quality of life questionnaire, which allows assessing health status. The aim of this study was to provide normative values of EQ-5D-5L in a population sample with urinary incontinence...

BACKGROUND: Studies to produce value sets for preference-based measures of health require definition of a full health upper anchor if the values are to be used to calculate quality-adjusted life years. Recent value sets derived for the EQ-5D-5L instrument have described the upper anchor as "full health," whereas older valuation studies for the EQ-5D used "best health state" in the descriptive system (11111). It is unclear whether this change could have led to differences in the values obtained...

BACKGROUND: The 5-level version of the EQ-5D (EQ-5D-5L) was recently developed. A number of preference-based scoring systems are being developed for several countries around the world. OBJECTIVE: To develop a value set for the EQ-5D-5L based on societal preferences in Canada. METHODS: We used age, sex, and education quota sampling from the general population from 4 cities across Canada. Composite time trade-off (cTTO) and traditional time trade-off (tTTO) were used as the main elicitation technique...

BACKGROUND: A near-universal finding internationally is that patient valuations of their own health, represented using the EQ-5D system, are mostly higher than general population valuations of the same EQ-5D states. This paper investigates whether this result also applies to New Zealand. Despite the EQ-5D's widespread use for cost-utility analysis in New Zealand, in particular by the Pharmaceutical Management Agency (PHARMAC) for health technology assessments, no previous studies comparing patient and general population valuations have included data for New Zealand...

The tunable multi-channel wavelength demultiplexer (WDM) based on metal-insulator-metal plasmonic nanodisk resonators is designed and numerically investigated by utilizing Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) simulations. It is found that the channel wavelength of WDM is easily tuned by changing the geometrical parameters of the structure and the material filled in the nanodisk resonator. The multi-channel WDM structure consisting of a plasmonic waveguide and several nanodisk resonators increases the transmission up to 70% at telecommunication regime, which is two times higher than the results reported in a recent literature [Opt...

OBJECTIVES: Expectancy-Value Model (EVM) is the most structured model in psychology to predict attitudes by measuring attitudinal attributes (AAs) and relevant external variables. Because health value could be categorized as attitude, we aimed to apply EVM to explore its usefulness in explaining variances in health values and investigate underlying factors. METHODS: Focus group discussion was carried out to identify the most common and significant AAs toward 5 different health states (coded as 11111, 11121, 21221, 32323, and 33333 in EuroQol Five-Dimension (EQ-5D) descriptive system)...

The process of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection of the macrophage implies a very little-known initial recognition and adherence step, important for mycobacterial survival; many proteins even remain like hypothetical. The Rv1510c gene, encoding a putatively conserved membrane protein, was investigated by analysing the M. tuberculosis genome sequence data reported by Cole et al. and a previous report that used PCR assays to show that the Rv1510 gene was only present in M. tuberculosis. This article confirmed all the above and identified the transcribed gene in M...

A wide-field-of-view polarization interference imaging spectrometer (WPIIS) based on a modified Savart polariscope, without moving parts, and with a narrow slit has been designed. The primary feature of this device is for use with a large angle of incidence, and the target image as well as the interferogram can be obtained at the same time in the spatial domain and are recorded by a two-dimensional CCD camera. Under compensation, the field of view of the WPIIS will extend 3-5 times as large as a common interference imaging spectrometer, and throughput will raise 1-2 orders of magnitude...

Several polymorphisms in the APOA5 gene have been associated with increased plasma triglyceride (TG) concentrations. However, associations between APOA5 and lipoprotein subclasses, remnant-like particles (RLPs), and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk have been less explored. We investigated associations of five APOA5 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs; -1131T>C, -3A>G, 56C>G IVS3+ 476G>A, and 1259T>C) with lipoprotein subfractions and CVD risk in 1,129 men and 1,262 women participating in the Framingham Heart Study...
