Although esophageal stenting is one treatment option as a palliative treatment for tracheoesophageal fistulas, serious complications are associated with stent migration. Some reports have described stent fixation using various devices to prevent stent migration. However, these have yet to be sufficiently examined. We performed esophageal stent fixation using the MANTIS Clip (Boston Scientific), a novel re-openable endoclip. An 89-year-old man developed a tracheoesophageal fistula after radiotherapy for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma...

PURPOSE: To assess efficacy and safety of prostatic artery embolization (PAE) in patients with advanced prostate cancer (PCa). MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this prospective single-center, single-arm, pilot study, 9 men with advanced PCa underwent PAE. PAE was performed with the use of 250-400 µm Embozene microspheres (Boston Scientific, Natick, Massachusetts, USA). International Prostate Symptoms Score (IPSS), urinary peak flow (Qmax) and post-void residual urine volume (PVR) was assessed at 12 weeks and up to 12 months...

Aims: We report 30-day, 1-year, and 3-year outcomes for a new TAVR programme that used five different transcatheter heart valve (THV) systems. Methods: From 2014 to 2020, 122 consecutive patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) received TAVR based on the Heart Team decision. Outcomes were analysed for the whole study population and in addition the first 63 patients (Cohort A, 2014 to 2019) were compared to the last 59 patients (Cohort B, 2019 to 2020). Outcomes included VARC-2 definitions and device performance assessed via transthoracic echocardiography by independent high-volume investigators...

BACKGROUND: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is considered a chronic disease with numerous secondary complications that negatively affect the quality of life of patients. However, the specific, known and validated instruments for Brazilian Portuguese are too extensive, which often makes their use infeasible. OBJECTIVE: To validate the internal structure of the Brazilian version of the Diabetes Quality of Life (DQOL) measure. METHODOLOGY: Patients with DM type 1 or 2, between the ages of 18 and 76, were evaluated between April 2022 and May 2022...

An 82-year-old man who had undergone Watchman FLX (Boston Scientific) device implantation presented with dyspnea. Multimodality evaluation demonstrated a small fistula from the proximal circumflex artery to the left atrial appendage. Anatomically, the left circumflex artery is close to the atrial appendage; therefore, it is plausible that fistula formation could be a late complication of implantation of the device.

The SMART Pass filter (Boston Scientific) aims to reduce inappropriate shocks (IASs) from subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillators by filtering out low-frequency signals such as T waves. However, this filter is deactivated in the presence of diminished R-wave sensing. We describe a case of IAS in the setting of extensive intra-abdominal hemorrhage.

UNLABELLED: Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is a rare complication of herpes zoster characterized by prolonged and excruciating pain. Traditional treatments for PHN, such as analgesics, anticonvulsants and antidepressants, do not always bring the desired result. One promising alternative that is attracting the attention of the scientific community is dorsal root ganglion stimulation (DRGS). This method focuses on targeted and precise targeting of the source of pain, providing a new level of effectiveness in the treatment of PHN...

MATERIAL AND METHODS: A single-center, retrospective cohort-study (March-2016 to December-2018) of patients treated with the Eluvia™ DES for femoropopliteal atherosclerosis was performed. Outcomes included primary and secondary patency rates and freedom from target lesion revascularization (FTLR) and were analyzed by comparing the impact of calcium burden according to the following calcium scores: Peripheral Arterial Calcium Scoring System (PACSS) score, number of vessel quadrants affected (0-4) and calcification score per Peripheral Academic Research Consortium (PARC) definitions...

The central dogma of pain in patients with chronic pancreatitis revolves around the pathophysiology of ductal hypertension owing to stones that obstruct the pancreatic duct. Conventional modalities available to decompress the pancreatic duct are occasionally limited by failed selective pancreatic duct cannulation during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. We describe a novel endoscopic approach of EUS-guided laser lithotripsy to assist in pancreatic duct (PD) stone fragmentation in two symptomatic patients with underlying chronic pancreatitis who had failed PD cannulation and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL)...

This in vitro study evaluated the ablation volume per pulse (AVP) and required energy needed to ablate 1mm3 (RE, J/mm3 ) of various stone types at different laser settings with TFL. METHODS: 272-µm core-diameter laser fibers (Boston Scientific© ) were connected to a 50 Watts TFL generator (IPG® ). Adequate bowel preparation is an important factor in high-quality colonoscopy. INTRODUCTION: Exposure to particulate matter (PM) pollution has been associated with lower lung function in adults with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Patients with eosinophilic COPD have been found to have higher levels of airway inflammation, greater responsiveness to anti-inflammatory steroid inhalers and a greater lung function response to PM pollution exposure compared with those with lower eosinophil levels. This study will evaluate if reducing home PM exposure by high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) air filtration improves respiratory health in eosinophilic COPD...
