Diagnosis and stratification of prostate cancer (PCa) patients using the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test is challenging. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), as a new star of liquid biopsy, has attracted interest to complement inaccurate PSA screening and invasiveness of tissue biopsy. In this study, a panel of potential small EV (sEV) protein biomarkers is identified from PCa cell lines using label-free LC-MS/MS proteomics. These biomarkers underwent further validation with plasma and urine samples from different PCa stages through parallel reaction monitoring-based targeted proteomics, western blotting, and ELISA...

BACKGROUND: The aorta-mitral annulus conjunction (AMC) is uncommon site of origin of focal atrial tachycardias (AT). Hence, the electrophysiological and ablation target characteristics are poorly described. OBJECTIVE: To describe the characteristics of AMC AT in detail. METHODS: The study enrolled 650 patients with AT, 21 (3.2%) of whom had AT originating from AMC. A comprehensive evaluation, including electrocardiography, electrophysiologic study, CT scan, and intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) was performed...

Triboelectric-electromagnetic hybrid nanogenerator (TEHG) has emerged as a promising technology for distributed energy harvesting. However, currently reported hybrid generators are straightforward combinations of two functional components. Moreover, inevitable heat from friction intensifies material abrasion and degrades the performance of polymer-based triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs). Here, a self-reinforcing TEHG that harnesses the magnetocaloric and magnetization effects of gadolinium (Gd) is proposed...

Dendrobium nobile is the largest species of the Orchidaceae family and produces dendrobine, a compound with medicinal properties (Sarsaiya et al., 2020a; Sarsaiya et al., 2024; Qian et al., 2024). The accumulation of dendrobine in D. nobile is regulated by various pathogenic fungi, which directly and indirectly influence dendrobine biosynthesis (Sarsaiya et al., 2019a; Sarsaiya et al., 2019b). In a field planted with D. nobile in Guizhou Province, China, small lesions were initially observed on the upper part of the leaves from May to June 2019, which later developed into larger brown necrotic leaf lesions...

The Amur tiger is currently confronted with challenges of anthropogenic development, leading to its population becoming fragmented into two geographically isolated groups: smaller and larger ones. Small and isolated populations frequently face a greater extinction risk, yet the small tiger population's genetic status and survival potential have not been assessed. Here, a total of 210 samples of suspected Amur tiger feces were collected from this small population, and the genetic background and population survival potentials were assessed by using 14 microsatellite loci...

Clinically, open wounds caused by accidental trauma and surgical lesion resection are easily infected by external bacteria, hindering wound healing. Antibacterial photodynamic therapy has become a promising treatment strategy for wound infection. In this study, a novel antibacterial nanocomposite material (QMC NPs) was synthesized by curcumin, quaternized chitosan and mesoporous polydopamine nanoparticles. The results showed that 150 μg/mL QMC NPs had good biocompatibility and exerted excellent antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli after blue laser irradiation (450 nm, 1 W/cm2 )...

We present the ab-initio temperature and pressure dependent thermoelastic properties of body-centered cubic tungsten. The temperature dependent quasi-harmonic elastic constants are computed at several reference volumes including both the phonon and the electronic excitations contribution to the free energy and interpolated at different temperatures and pressures. Good agreement with the experimental elastic constants on a single crystal at ambient pressure is found.

Gastric cancer is a highly prevalent disease that poses a serious threat to public health. In clinical practice, gastroscopy is frequently used by medical practitioners to screen for gastric cancer. However, the symptoms of gastric cancer at different stages of advancement vary significantly, particularly in the case of early gastric cancer (EGC). The manifestations of EGC are often indistinct, leading to a detection rate of less than 10%. In recent years, researchers have focused on leveraging deep learning algorithms to assist medical professionals in detecting EGC and thereby improve detection rates...

The catalytic activation of the Li-S reaction is fundamental to maximizing the capacity and stability of Li-S batteries (LSBs) by blocking the migration of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and enhancing sulfur utilization. Current research on Li-S catalysts mainly focuses on the optimization of the energy levels to promote adsorption and catalytic conversion of LiPSs, while frequently overlooking the electronic spin state influence on charge transfer and orbital interactions. Here, hollow NiS2 /NiSe2 heterostructures encapsulated in a nitrogen-doped carbon matrix (NiS2 /NiSe2 @NC) are synthesized and used as a catalytic additive in sulfur cathodes...

The cGAS-STING pathway plays a crucial role in innate immune activation against cancer and infections, and STING agonists based on cyclic dinucleotides (CDN) have garnered attention for their potential use in cancer immunotherapy and vaccines. However, the limited drug-like properties of CDN necessitate an efficient delivery system to the immune system. To address these challenges, we developed an immunostimulatory delivery system for STING agonists. Here, we have examined aqueous coordination interactions between CDN and metal ions and report that CDN mixed with Zn2+ and Mn2+ formed distinctive crystal structures...

Oxygen vacancy (OV) engineering has been widely applied in different types of metal oxide-based photocatalytic reactions. Our study has shown that the redistributed OVs resulting from voids in CeO2 rods lead to significant differences in the band structure in space. The flat energy band within the highly crystallized bulk region hinders the recombination of photogenerated carrier pairs during the transfer process. The downward curved energy band in the surface region enhances the activation of the absorbents...

This article presents trioxa[9]circulene (3) as a novel member of hetero[n]circulenes. Its synthesis began with the synthesis of dimethoxydioxa[8]helicene (5) and used dimethoxydiepoxycyclononatrinaphthalene (4) as a key intermediate, despite the condensation reaction predominantly yielding a 1,4-addition byproduct. The structures and properties of 3-5 were extensively investigated using experimental and computational methods. Analysis of the crystal structures reveal elongation of the internal C-C bonds in the nine-membered ring of 3 compared to 4 and 5...

Optimizing rice breeding for increasing grain yield is critical for global food security. Heading-date-related or Flowering-time-related traits, is a key factor determining yield potential. However, traditional manual phenotyping methods for these traits are time-consuming and labor-intensive. Many BF2 complexes of heteroaromatics are well known for their dual-state emission (DSE) properties. However, AIE and ACQ effects have also been observed in certain cases. To date, no rational explanations have been proposed for these uncommon photoluminescence (PL) behaviours. The current research prepared four BF2 complexes of N -benzoyl 2-aminobenzothiazoles with diversified photoluminescence (PL) properties as model compounds and utilized quantum chemical calculation tools to address this issue. Theoretical calculations revealed that the electron-donating groups (EDGs) at the para -position of the exocyclic phenyl ring exert significant influence on their ground-state electronic structures and vertical excitation features...
