Methyleugenol, a bioactive compound in the phenylpropene family, undergoes its final and crucial biosynthetic transformation when eugenol O-methyltransferase (EOMT) converts eugenol into methyleugenol. While Melaleuca bracteata essential oil is particularly rich in methyleugenol, it contains only trace amounts of its precursor, eugenol. This suggests that the EOMT enzyme in M. bracteata is highly efficient, although it has not yet been characterized. In this study, we isolated and identified an EOMT gene from M...

The 2-(2-phenethyl)chromones (PECs) are the signature constituents responsible for the fragrance and pharmacological properties of agarwood. O-methyltransferases (OMTs) are necessary for the methylated PECs biosynthesis, however, there is little information known about OMTs in Aquilaria sinensis. In this study, we identified 29 OMT genes from the A. sinensis genome. Expression analysis showed they were differentially expressed in different tissues and responded to drill wounding. Comprehensive analysis of the gene expression and methylated PECs content revealed that the AsOMT2, AsOMT8, AsOMT11, AsOMT16, and AsOMT28 could potentially be involved in methylated PECs biosynthesis...

Surgery is a common and often necessary treatment option for a wide range of medical conditions, with an estimated 40 to 50 million surgeries performed in the US alone each year. While the various types of surgeries performed may be effective in treating or managing different conditions, the post-operative period can be challenging for patients. Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) is a hands-on approach to medical care that seeks to restore balance and harmony to the body from the lens of an interconnected mind, body, and spirit...

Chronic inflammatory diseases (CIDs) are debilitating and potentially lethal illnesses that affect a large proportion of the global population. Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) is a manual therapy technique developed and performed by osteopathic physicians that facilitates the body's innate healing processes. Therefore, OMT may prove a beneficial anti-inflammatory modality useful in the management and treatment of CIDs. This work aims to objectively evaluate the therapeutic benefits of OMT in patients with various CIDs...

BACKGROUND: Invasive management of stable coronary artery disease is still a controversial topic. The purpose of this umbrella review was to synthesize systematic reviews (SRs) that evaluate the benefits and harms of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) versus optimal medical therapy (OMT) in patients with stable coronary artery disease. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, and CENTRAL from 2018 to August 7, 2022. We included SRs with meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that evaluated the question of interest...

Neck pain is a multifactorial condition, and one common cause is cervical spine injury related to motor vehicle collision (MVC). Injuries from MVCs range from whiplash to cervical spine fracture and can manifest in various ways including neck stiffness, decreased range of motion, and neurological deficits. One method of management currently underutilized is osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), which can be used to treat pain and range of motion deficits resulting from MVCs. While a few studies in the literature have documented a statistically significant benefit of OMT in chronic pain syndromes, there is little data on its effectiveness in treating patients after MVCs...

BACKGROUND: Opioid Maintenance Treatment (OMT) is the gold standard for people with opioid dependence. However, drop-out rates are high, and many patients do not reach desired outcomes. Understanding patients' and healthcare providers' experiences with the treatment can provide valuable information to improve the quality of OMT and to increase acceptability and accessibility of services. The aim of this systematic review is to explore and synthesise the experiences of OMT among persons with opioid dependence and health care providers, to inform policy makers and practitioners on how to improve OMT outcomes...

Flavonoids are a large family of polyphenolic compounds with important agro-industrial, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical applications. Among the structural diversity found in the flavonoid family, methylated flavonoids show interesting characteristics such as greater stability and improved oral bioavailability. This work is focused on the reconstruction of the entire biosynthetic pathway of the methylated flavones diosmetin and chrysoeriol in Streptomyces albidoflavus . A total of eight different genes (TAL, 4CL, CHS, CHI, FNS1, F3'H/CPR, 3'-OMT, 4'-OMT) are necessary for the heterologous biosynthesis of these two flavonoids, and all of them have been integrated along the chromosome of the bacterial host...

The emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance are global threats. Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) is responsible for a substantial proportion of this global health issue because of its intrinsic resistance to many antibiotics due to the impermeability of its outer membrane and its multidrug efflux pump systems. Therefore, therapeutic drugs are limited, and the development of new drugs is extremely challenging. As an alternative approach, we focused on a combinational treatment strategy and found that 5-O-mycaminosyltylonolide (OMT) showed potent antibacterial activity against P...

Increasing consumer aversion to non-natural flavoring substances is prompting a heightened interest in enzymatic processes for flavor production. This includes methylation reactions, which are often performed by using hazardous chemicals. By correlation of aroma profile data and transcriptomic analysis, a novel O -methyltransferase (OMT) catalyzing a respective reaction within the formation of p -anisaldehyde was identified in the mushroom Pleurotus sapidus . Heterologous expression in E. coli followed by purification allowed for further characterization of the enzyme...

Optical molecular tomography (OMT) can monitor glioblastomas in small animals non-invasively. In this Letter, a free space matching network (FSMN-Net) was presented to overcome the parameter mismatch problem in different reconstruction systems. Specifically, a novel, to the best of our knowledge, manifold convolution operator was designed by considering the mathematical model of OMT as a space matching process...
