Restoration of the external ear and nose in human patients, in either congenital deformity or acquired defects, is a challenge in reconstructive surgery. Optimization of the currently available materials is necessary for rhinoplasty and microtia correction to avoid intraoperative manoeuvring and early rejection. The aim of this study was to develop cross-linked decellularized caprine conchal cartilages as biocompatible, robust, and non-toxic matrix template. The characterization of the decellularized tissue encompasses in vitro lymphoproliferation assay, cytotoxicity test, agar gel precipitation test, in vivo immunocompatibility study, histology, and determination of pro-inflammatory cytokines in animal model...

Design and successful synthesis of phenolic-OH and amine-functionalized porous organic polymers as adsorbent for postcombustion CO2 uptake from flue gas mixtures along with high CO2 /N2 selectivity is a very demanding research area in the context of developing a suitable adsorbent to mitigate greenhouse gases. Herein, we report three triazine-based porous organic polymers TrzPOP-1, -2, and -3 through the polycondensation of two triazine rings containing tetraamine and three dialdehydes. These porous organic polymers possess high Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface areas of 995, 868, and 772 m2 g-1 , respectively...

While it seems intuitive that highly visible vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks should impact perceptions of disease risk and facilitate vaccination, few empirical studies exist to confirm or dispel these beliefs. This study investigates the impact of the 2014-2015 Disneyland measles outbreak on parents' vaccination attitudes and future vaccination intentions. The analysis relies on a pair of public opinion surveys of American parents with at least one child under the age of six (N = 1,000 across each survey)...

Oral cancer is one of the most prevalent form of cancer and its severity is aggrandized specially among the socio-economically backward population in developing countries. Association of Dandy-Walker syndrome with occipital meningocele (OMC) is extremely rare and about thirty cases are reported till date in the Western literature. However, OMC is classified by Talamonti et al. into small, large, and giant categories with respective diameters were upto 5 cm in small, large with 5-9 cm, and giant with >9 cm. Usually the size of OMC progressively increases as raised intracranial pressure leads to compensatory cerebrospinal fluid escape into sac with the growth of children. Authors report an interesting case of an 18-month-old female child with extra-gigantic OMC, whose size was almost same since birth, representing the first case of its kind, who underwent successful surgical repair...

They can be adequately photopolymerized up to 4–5mm composite thickness and therefore permit a more economical restorative approach as compared to conventional resin composites. The current paper summarizes the most important facts on bulk-fill composite materials and provides recommendations for the successful use of these materials in daily practice based on upto-date in vitro and in vivo research...

To the best of our knowledge, bilateral Rb metastasizing to parotids is very rare and this is the fifth such case reported in world literature till date in a 2-year-old male child who underwent exenteration of left eye for bilateral Rb and later developed recurrent metastasis to left parotid requiring parotidectomy. Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) is an autosomal recessive multisystemic human genetic disorder characterized by six major defects including obesity, mental retardation, renal anomalies, polydactyly, retinal degeneration and hypogenitalism. In several cases of BBS, few other features such as metabolic defects, cardiovascular anomalies, speech deficits, hearing loss, hypertension, hepatic defects and high incidence of diabetes mellitus have been reported as well. The BBS displays extensive genetic heterogeneity. To date, 19 genes have been mapped on different chromosomes causing BBS phenotypes having varied mutational load of each BBS gene...

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Cataract is the clouding or opacity that develops in the eye's lens and is considered to be an unavoidable consequence of aging due to irreversible lens damage. Free radicals and oxidant species are reported to be the major factor responsible for the onset and pathology of cataract. No pharmacological measures are formulated to treat cataract blindness and surgical removal of the opaque lens is the only remedy till date. Boosting of antioxidant potential of the lens is proved to prevent cataract and many indigenous plants have been screened for anticataractogenic potential in the last decades...

Salinity fluctuation is one of the main factors affecting the overall fitness of marine fish. In addition, water borne ammonia may occur simultaneously with salinity stress. Additionally, under such stressful circumstances, fish may encounter food deprivation. The physiological and ion-osmo regulatory adaptive capacities to cope with all these stressors alone or in combination are extensively addressed in fish. To date, studies revealing the modulation of antioxidant potential as compensatory response to multiple stressors are rather lacking...

Till date, there is no reported vaccine for humans and the available animal vaccines are unsafe, therefore a safe and effective subunit vaccine is highly sought for. While Tumor lysis syndrome may occur spontaneously before treatment, it usually develops shortly after the initiation of cytotoxic chemotherapy. These metabolites can overwhelm the homeostatic mechanisms with development of hyperuricaemia, hyperkalaemia, hyperphosphataemia, and hypocalcaemia. These biological manifestations may lead to clinical manifestations including, acute kidney injury, seizure, or sudden death that require intensive care...

BACKGROUND: Strategic blood reserves are an important component in meeting blood needs and this can be accomplished through the establishment of a frozen blood program. METHODS: One hundred units of packed RBC were glycerolized using the Haemonetics ACP 215 automated cell processor and placed in a -86 °C deep freezer for freezing and storage. Product weight, hematocrit, RBC count, WBC count and hemoglobin were recorded prior to freezing. Twenty five bags were thawed and deglycerolized after every three months starting at one year from the date of first glycerolization In addition to the earlier parameters the bags were assessed for supernatant osmolality, pH, supernatant hemoglobin, ATP levels and supernatant potassium and from these red cell recovery, percentage hemolysis, supernatant glycerol and red cell viability were estimated...
