OBJECTIVE: To model the potential number of cancers prevented and life-years saved over a range of adherence rates to cervical cancer screening, surveillance follow-up, and follow-up colposcopy that may result from removing financial barriers to these essential clinical services. METHODS: A previously validated decision-analytic Markov microsimulation model was used to evaluate the increase in adherence to screening, surveillance, and colposcopy after an abnormal cervical cancer screening result...

BACKGROUND: Inaccurate colposcopy diagnosis may lead to inappropriate management and increase the incidence of cervical cancer. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of colposcopy in the detection of histologic cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 or worse (CIN2+) in women with transformation zone type 3 (TZ3). METHODS: Records from 764 patients with TZ3 who underwent colposcopy-directed biopsy and/or endocervical curettage in Putuo Hospital China between February 2020 and March 2023 were retrospectively collected...

INTRODUCTION: Methylation assays have demonstrated potential as dependable and high-precision approaches for identifying or triaging individuals with cervical cancer (CA) or cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). Our investigation aimed to assess the efficacy of diagnosis and triage of the PAX1/SOX1 methylation panel in detecting CIN or CA. METHODS: A total of 461 patients with abnormal high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) or cytology test results were recruited for this study...

Several methods have been described for treatment, including argon plasma coagulation. A narrative review of the evidence published on this topic was conducted. METHODS: A search was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. RESULTS: Five studies reported on anal/perianal condyloma treatment with argon plasma coagulation...

OBJECTIVES: Lichen planus (LP) and lichen sclerosus (LS) are the most common vulvar lichenoid dermatoses. The diagnostic challenges are due to site-specific variation in microscopic appearance and small-sized biopsies. Authentication of diagnostic criteria to distinguish LS and LP to uncover any resemblance or divergence in presentation of these conditions is attempted. METHODS: Cases of vulvar LP and LS diagnosed between January 2012 to December 2022 were included...

OBJECTIVE: Cervical cancer, a prevalent and deadly disease among women, comes second only to breast cancer, with over 700 daily deaths. The Pap smear test is a widely utilized screening method for detecting cervical cancer in its early stages. However, this manual screening process is prone to a high rate of false-positive outcomes because of human errors. Researchers are using machine learning and deep learning in computer-aided diagnostic tools to address this issue. These tools automatically analyze and sort cervical cytology and colposcopy images, improving the precision of identifying various stages of cervical cancer...

This study compares the test characteristics of self-sampled high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) tests with clinician-collected hrHPV tests in average-risk ( i.e., undergoing routine screening) and high-risk patients ( i.e., receiving follow-up after abnormal screening results). METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, a relatively small cohort of average-risk ( n  = 35) and high-risk ( n  = 12) participants completed both clinician-collected and self-sampled hrHPV testing, along with a brief phone survey...

Ewing sarcoma is an exceedingly rare form of cancer that affects the cervix. It falls within the spectrum of neoplastic diseases known as Ewing's family of tumours, typically observed in osseous tissues. A woman in her 40s, experiencing symptoms of leucorrhoea and transvaginal bleeding that commenced 3 months before her consultation, was referred to our gynaecological oncology clinic with a preliminary diagnosis of ovarian teratoma. A colposcopy procedure was conducted unveiling a complete loss of cervical anatomy with friable and malodorous tissue...

However, in low-resource communities with a high incidence of cervical cancer, high equipment costs and a shortage of specialists hinder preventative strategies. The main risk factor involved in CIN2+ recurrence after treatment is the HPV persistent infection. The dysregulation of the immune system permits only HR-HPVs to become persistent infections, to promote cancer development and to increase the risk of recurrence after treatment. Therefore, there is a shift to a Th2-type cytokine pattern during the carcinogenesis pathway; for this reason, the neutrophil-lymphocytes ratio (NLR) could be a marker of this immunological change. The study aims to analyse the predictive role of NLR in the recurrence of High-grade CIN (CIN2+) after excisional treatment in a real-world life setting of patients treated for CIN2+ Design: cross-sectional study Participants/Materials, Setting, Methods: We examined a retrospective database of 444 patients, who attended the Colposcopy Service of our Department from 2011 to 2020 due to an abnormal screening pap smear and we compared the clinical characteristics to NLR performed at the time of diagnosis...
