Isquemic heart disease

Fernando Llorca Castro, Vicente Ortún Rubio
BACKGROUNDS: With the intention of establishing economic inequities, the article analyzes the variations of the Unnecessarily Premature and Sanitarily Avoidable Mortality (MIPSE) of each of the 81 cantons of Costa Rica during 2000-2005. It is important to identify those inequities, to establish policies and strategies trying to mitigate them. METHOD: It applies the MIPSE classification proposed by members of the Information and Studies Service, of the Catalunya's Sanitary Resources Headquarter, Spain...

OBJECTIVE: To determine the behaviour of mortality due to ischemic cardiopathy in Mexico during the years 2000 through 2007. METHODS: The codes of the International Classification of Diseases 10 that correspond to the ischemic cardiopathy were identified. The rates of mortality nationwide, by federative entity, and by socioeconomic region as well as by degree of education, type of job, and public health services entitlement, were determined. Likewise, the strength of association by means of the regression of Poisson among federative entities, socioeconomic regions where individuals resided in, and mortality by ischemic cardiopathy were also determinated...

OBJECTIVES: Several clinical trials have demonstrated that antithrombotic treatment may be effective in prevention of stroke in nonrheumatic atrial fibrillation (AF). The aim of this study was to assess if we follow clinical trial recommendations in community practice. METHODS: We analyzed 225 medical records of patients diagnosed of nonrheumatic AF in Cáceres, during February and March 1998. Patients who were contraindicated to follow antiagreggation or anti-coagulation treatment were excluded...

PURPOSE: To analyse efficacy, tolerance and adverse events of reversible contraceptives in women with cardiac disease. METHODS: We studied prospectively during 24-39 (mean = 29) months, 89 women with heart disease with a mean age of 25.6 (16-42) years. Rheumatic heart disease was present in 73 (82%) cases, congenital heart disease in 11 (11%), coronary artery disease in 2 (2%) and cardiomyopathy in 3 (3%) case. The patients were divided in three groups: GCO--35 patients taking combined oral contraceptives (30 micrograms ethinyl estradiol and 75 micrograms gestodene--COs); GIT--27 using injectable progestagens (depot medroxyprogesterone acetate-DMPA) and GUID--27 with intrauterine device (IUD)...

There has recently been an increasing interest in beneficial effects of cardiac pacing in patients with myocardial diseases, especially in Obstructive Hypertrophic and Dilated Cardiomyopathy. The experience with dual-chamber pacing for obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is now important. DDD pacing for sinus rhythm patients and VVI pacing in patients with atrial fibrillation have shown considerable symptomatic improvement, with a significant decrease of angina, dyspnea, presyncope and frank syncope. It has been suggested that DDD pacing may prevent sudden death and improve survival rates in these patients, but this has not yet been established...

PURPOSE: To evaluate the acute effects of isosorbide mononitrate on circulation, cardiac function and left ventricular segmental motility in patients with isquemic heart disease due to coronary artery disease. METHODS: Twenty-four patients with ischemic heart disease, 10 women, with mean age of 58 years, were studied during cardiac catheterization, at baseline condition and 5min after intravenous infusion of 0.3mg/kg of isosorbide mononitrate. RESULTS: After infusion of isosorbide mononitrate there were significant reduction in mean right atrial pressure no mean pulmonary artery pressure (< 0...
