Tracheobronchopathia osteochondroplastica (TBPO) is a rare and benign idiopathic disease of the tracheobronchial tree, characterized by osseous, and/or cartilaginous submucosal nodules involving the anterior and lateral walls of the airways with sparing of the posterior wall. We present a case of a 51-year-old non-smoker female, presenting with a 2-year history of gradually enlarging anterior neck mass with foreign body sensation, frequent throat clearing, and occasional hoarseness. She was initially diagnosed with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis due to the presence of nodules on flexible laryngoscopy...

Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP), which is usually benign, is an intractable disease characterized by recurrent papillomas (wart-like lesions). Although it most commonly involves the mucosal epithelial lining of the upper respiratory tract, on rare occasions, it can also involve lung parenchyma. RRP carries the risk of malignant transformation, most often to non-small-cell squamous lung cancer. Here, we present the case of a 32-year-old pregnant female with a past medical history of RRP who developed mild respiratory distress during her immediate postpartum period...

Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) is a rare, debilitating neoplastic disorder caused by chronic infection with human papillomavirus (HPV) type 6 or 11 and characterized by growth of papillomas in the upper aerodigestive tract. There is no approved medical therapy, and patients require repeated debulking procedures to maintain voice and airway function. PRGN-2012 is a gorilla adenovirus immune-therapeutic capable of enhancing HPV 6/11-specific T cell immunity. This first-in-human, phase 1 study (NCT04724980) of adjuvant PRGN-2012 treatment in adult patients with severe, aggressive RRP demonstrates the overall safety and clinically meaningful benefit observed with PRGN-2012, with a 50% complete response rate in patients treated at the highest dose...

BACKGROUND: Specific HPV types cause recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (R.R.P.). When administered intralesionally, cidofovir, an antiviral agent, has shown favorable outcomes in reducing papilloma. Bevacizumab, an angiogenesis inhibitor, has demonstrated improved R.R.P. However, both treatments lack FDA approval for R.R.P. Our study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of intralesional Cidofovir and Bevacizumab for R.R.P. and compare the two interventions. METHODS: We searched five electronic databases to find relevant studies...

Recurrent respiratory papilloma (RRP) often presents multiple lesions in the respiratory tract and sometimes becomes fatal because of severe airway obstruction. We report the case of a 69-year-old woman who had juvenile-onset RRP in the trachea that was refractory to surgical treatment, and complete remission was achieved by low-dose cisplatin combined with de-escalated radiotherapy without any side effects. This case report is the first to illustrate the data on low-dose cisplatin for refractory benign RRP, and our experience reinforces the opinion that low-dose cisplatin combined with de-escalated radiotherapy can be an effective and safe treatment alternative for uncontrollable and lethal RRP...

The high prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in China suggests there would be a substantial positive health impact of widespread vaccination against HPV. We adapted a previously described dynamic transmission model of the natural history of HPV infection and related diseases to the Chinese setting to estimate the public health impact in China of 2-valent (with and without cross-protection), 4-valent, and 9-valent HPV vaccination strategies. The model predicted the incidence and mortality associated with HPV-related diseases, including cervical and noncervical cancers, genital warts, and recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP), based on the various vaccination coverage rate (VCR) scenarios, over a 100-year time horizon...

PURPOSE: Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the most common sexually transmitted disease, in males and females worldwide. While the role of HPV in female diseases is well known and largely studied, males have negligibly been included in these programs, also because the proportion of women suffering and dying from HPV-related diseases is much larger than men. The aim of this review is to focus on HPV-related diseases in male patients. METHODS: We performed a literature analysis on the electronic database PubMed...

The objective of this manuscript was to review the indications, efficacy, and safety of a 585 nm pulsed dye laser (PDL) in non-malignant laryngeal lesions. Following the PRISMA statement recommendations, three independent authors searched for articles published in PubMed/MEDLINE, the Cochrane Library, Google Scholar, Scielo, and Web of Science. A bias analysis was performed following NICE guidance tools. From the 506 identified publications, 19 observational studies met the inclusion criteria. The PDL improves vocal quality objectively and subjectively in vascular lesions ( p < 0...

OBJECTIVES: Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) is a benign, rare disease caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) that can be divided into juvenile and adult forms. The course of the disease is variable, but is usually more aggressive in the juvenile form. The standard surgical treatment is represented by CO2 laser resection, although photoangiolytic lasers represent a valid alternative. Adjuvant therapies have been proposed for disease control in case of frequent surgical resections or spreading into the lower airways...

Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis is a rare disease caused by HPV infection. We hereby report a patient with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis of the tracheobronchial tree with no laryngeal involvement who remained clinically stable for more than 10 years but then developed malignant transformation with metastases. A 61-year-old lady with good past health presented to our department in 2010 because of chronic cough for years. Chest X-ray showed reduced left lung volume. Bronchoscopy showed multiple nodules over left main bronchus and left upper lobe progressing to involve the posterior trachea and left lower lobe...

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is causally associated with 5% of cancers, including cancers of the cervix, penis, vulva, vagina, anus and oropharynx. The most carcinogenic HPV is HPV-16, which dominates the types causing cancer. There is also sufficient evidence that HPV types 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58 and 59 cause cervical cancer. The L1 protein, which, when assembled into virus-like particles, induces HPV-type-specific neutralising antibodies, forms the basis of all commercial HPV vaccines. There are six licensed prophylactic HPV vaccines: three bivalent, two quadrivalent and one nonavalent vaccine...
