COMPARATIVE STUDY
A González-Licea
In suckling and adult rats, distribution in the small and large intestine of crystal-like containing cell was studied and was compared with that of crystal containing cell in the mouse. In the former, cell predominates in cecum and in the latter in the ileum. Numerical differences were statistical significant. It was postulated that these cells might be different. Up to date, they have been regarded as the same cell by other authors and are known as globular leucocyte.

Substitutes for whole blood include blood fractions such as plasma, serum albumin and other fluids of various kinds which are not derived from blood but are used as plasma volume expanders; these, include the usual crystaloid intravenous solutions. Since in comparison to blood far more of these later solutions are given intravenously, a thorough knowledge of plasma volume expanders is essential. The first use of such expanders in human patients was by Hogan in 1915. He used colloidal gelatin and noted an improvement in blood pressure in shock...

Reported are three maternal deaths in four patients who presented with a similar syndrome following a normal antepartum course and normal labor and delivery managed by regional or local anesthesia and midline or proctoepisiotomy. Beginning about the second postpartum day, the patients developed unilateral perineal edema and induration which progressed to generalized vulvar, vaginal, perineal, and gluteal edema and induration. These patients developed marked leukocytosis, fever, and ultimately vascular collapse; three of them died...

Electron microscopic study of a malignant paraganglioma of the organ of Zuckerkandl revealed similarities between the tumor and the normal paraganglia. The well-differentiated portion of the tumor recapitulated the structure of the basic functional units of the paraganglion. In addition there signs of anaplasia both at the histologic and ultrastructural level. Large neurosecretory granules were noted in some of the tumor cells, but most of the cells were agranular. Crystaloids resembling those seen in alveolar soft part sarcoma were also noted...

[3-H]Melatonin administered in vivo in the rat cisterna magna became associated with a vinblastine-precipitable protein. Melatonin treatment decreased microtubule protein content by 44% in the arcuate-median eminence region and by 19% in the remaining hypothalamic block, being without significant effect on the cerebral cortex. Superior cervical gangliectomy but not pinealectomy increased microtubule protein content of the rat hypothalamus. Norepinephrine brought about a significantly greater decrease in hypothalamic microtubule protein levels of ganglionectomized rats than in sham-operated or in ganglionectomized-pinealectomized animals...
