The expression "pleomorphic adenoma" has been used synonymously with mixed cutaneous tumors and chondroid syringomas. It originates from eccrine or apocrine skin, salivary glands, and lacrimal glands. Histologically, it comprises an epithelial-lined glandular component embedded in the cartilaginous, myxomatous, or fibrous stroma. These lesions are usually misdiagnosed because they are extremely rare. It commonly affects middle-aged men and has a slow-growing nature. The usual manifestation is a firm nodular lesion in the periorbital region, particularly at eyelid margins...

PURPOSE: Aging is a well-established risk factor for meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). We previously reported an accelerated cellular senescence phenomenon in the lacrimal glands of a murine model of chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD). Herein, we aimed to elucidate the relationship between cellular senescence and MGD in cGVHD mice, utilizing the senolytic agent ABT-263. METHODS: A cGVHD mouse model was established through allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT) from B10...

Immunoglobulin 4 (IgG4)-related disease is a chronic immune-mediated fibroinflammatory disorder. Involvement of the vascular system, including large- and medium-sized vessels, is increasingly recognized. The varied appearances of vascular involvement reflect the sequela of chronic inflammation and fibrosis and can include aortitis and periaortitis with resultant complications such as aneurysm formation and dissection. A diagnosis of IgG4-related large vessel involvement should be considered when there is known or suspected IgG4-related disease elsewhere...

This report presents a unique case of recurrent idiopathic inferior oblique myositis (IOM) with a focus on clinico-radiological characteristics and histological features. A woman in her early 40s presented with a third episode of IOM following a 12-year period of quiescence. The first two episodes were characterised by unilateral IOM with rapid resolution following oral prednisone treatment. MRI revealed anterior focal enlargement of the left inferior oblique muscle with ipsilateral lacrimal gland enlargement...

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a malignant tumor originating in the salivary glands. It most commonly affects the salivary and lacrimal glands, with less frequent occurrences in the esophagus. Esophageal ACC (EACC) typically manifests in the middle or lower parts of the esophagus, with exceedingly rare instances in the upper part. Lung metastasis in EACC is uncommon, and understanding its clinical features and treatment strategies remains challenging. In this study, we present a case of ACC originating in the upper esophagus with lung metastasis...

METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, mechanical ocular exposure, dry eye assessment and MRI data were collected. Patients were classified into non-severe subjective DED group with ocular surface disease index (OSDI) < 33 and severe subjective DED group with OSDI ≥ 33...

BACKGROUND: Primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) is a complex autoimmune disease featuring damage to salivary and lacrimal glands, with the possibility of manifestations across multiple organs. Antibody-producing B cells have long been appreciated to play a significant role in pSS pathogenesis, with a number of autoreactive antibody species having been identified to be elevated in pSS patients. While several studies have attempted to characterize the BCR repertoires of peripheral blood B cells in pSS patients, much remains unknown about the repertoire characteristics of gland-infiltrating B cells...

METHODS: The study included 80 eyes of 40 patients. There were 25 patients in group 1 (hyperthyroid group) and 15 patients in group 2 (thyroid cancer group). Group 1 has received low dose (131I) and group 2 high dose (131I). Before, and at the first and sixth month after RAI treatment, all patients underwent ophthalmological examinations, Schirmer tests, TBUT tests, tear osmolarity (TO), and ocular surface examinations...

Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is an autoimmune disease characterized by periductal lymphocytic infiltration of the salivary and lacrimal glands. SS also exhibits extra-glandular manifestations and specific autoantibodies. Salivary gland ultrasonography (SGUS) is a common procedure used to assess the severity of glandular involvement. However, the association between SGUS and extra-glandular lesions remains poorly understood. This study aimed to identify clinical indices, including disease activity, associated with glandular involvement using SGUS in patients with SS...

We herein present a rare case of acute central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) associated with nonspecific orbital inflammation (NSOI). A 38-year-old woman presented with a 3-day history of ocular pain, reduced vision, periorbital swelling, proptosis, conjunctival chemosis, and restricted eye movements. Optical coherence tomography of the affected eye confirmed signs of CSC. Additionally, a computed tomography scan revealed enlargement of intraconal soft tissues and the lacrimal gland. Ocular ultrasonography detected posterior sclera thickening, indicating posterior scleritis...

Within the framework of the article, the authors analyzed the available information about the damage to the lacrimal apparatus during radionuclide therapy. In focus of article lesions of the lacrimal production system, the main and accessory lacrimal glands, as well as lacrimal drainage are considered. It was found that damage to the lacrimal apparatus is characteristic of 131I therapy for thyroid cancer, as well as for radioligand therapy using anti-PSMA antibodies labeled with 177Lu and 225Ac. 177Lu-PSMA and 225Ac-PSMA may damage the lacrimal gland with the formation of a clinically pronounced "dry eye syndrome"...

PURPOSE: To characterize the qualitative and quantitative features of idiopathic orbital myositis (IOM) on MRI. METHODS: This was a multicenter retrospective study of patients with active IOM with MRI. Patients with incomplete clinical records, poor-quality or interval scans without active myositis, and specific orbital myositis (i.e., orbital myositis secondary to an identified condition) were excluded. An enlargement ratio was calculated by dividing the diameters of the affected extraocular muscle (EOM) by the contralateral unaffected EOM...
