BACKGROUND: Clinicians need easy access to evidence-based information to inform their clinical practice. Point-of-care information summaries are increasingly available in the form of smartphone apps. However, the quality of information from the apps is questionable as there is currently no regulation on the content of the medical apps. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to systematically assess the quality and content of the medical apps providing point-of-care information summaries that were available in two major app stores...

BACKGROUND: The knowledge, preventive behaviors, and risk perception of the COVID-19 pandemic among health care workers can affect virus transmission and control. As the primary individuals in contact with infected patients, health care workers risk infection. There are a few studies on the knowledge and self-practice prevention for COVID-19 among medical students. OBJECTIVES: This study evaluated the COVID-19-related knowledge, preventive behaviors, and risk perceptions among medical students and interns...

INTRODUCTION: Neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD) both threatens the health of affected patients long-term and also has a significantly negative impact on the patients' quality of life. present, many clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) have been developed for NLUTD patients, but these CPGs may confuse healthcare professionals and patients due to their great difference in terms of scope, quality and content. This review aims to identify the CPGs for NLUTD patients published from 2012 to 2022, assess their quality and then analyse them in an integrated manner...

INTRODUCTION: Clinicians raise at least one question for every two patients they see, but search for an answer to less than half of these questions, and rarely use evidence-based resources. One barrier to evidence-based practice is doubt that the search would yield an answer, and we found insufficient evidence to refute this concern. This study aims to identify what proportion of clinical questions in primary care can be answered with online evidence-based practice resources, and what proportion of these can be answered with pre-appraised evidence...

Since the beginning of Corona Virus Disease (COVID) pandemic, there has been lack of clarity about the management protocols in spite of frequently updated national and international guidelines. Irrational use of unproven therapies has not been helpful in improving treatment outcomes. Early use of high-dose steroids or late use of antiviral medicines might have caused more harm than the benefit. There is also lot of fear about post-COVID fibrosis leading to extended use of steroids and antifibrotics. We reviewed the available COVID guidelines and treatment protocols in the light of scientific evidence generated over last 2 years by a systematic literature search using various databases (PubMed, Google Scholar, MEDLINE, UpToDate, Embase, and Web of Science)...

The goal of this study was to analyze the effect of COVID-19 drugs and biologicals on hyperglycemia. A literature search with key terms, such as "COVID-19 drugs and hyperglycemia" and "COVID-19 vaccines and hyperglycemia," was conducted using PubMed through September 2021. The CDC data were referenced for current COVID-19 profile and statistics. The NIH COVID-19 guidelines were referenced for updated treatment recommendations. Micromedex and UpToDate were used for drug and disease information. Current results suggested that corticosteroids (dexamethasone), remdesivir and antivirals (lopinavir and ritonavir) all have the potential to significantly raise blood glucose levels putting patients at elevated risk for severe complications...
