Objective: Prostate cancer is commonly diagnosed among old men while younger men are rarely diagnosed with prostate cancer. In this study we identify clinical and pathological features of 154 patients with prostate cancer younger than 55 years old and to assist intreatment decisions. Methods: The medical records of 154 prostate cancer patients younger than 55 years old in Peking University First Hospital from Feb 1953 to Jun 2016 were reviewed, retrospectively. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the reaction of versican and heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor (HB-EGF) molecule concentrations to acute radiation exposure in normal bladder and rectal tissue samples in order to gain more insight into the effects of cancer radiotherapy. STUDY DESIGN: Four groups with 6 male adult Swiss Albino mice per group were investigated. The mice bladder and rectum tissue samples were subjected to a 10-Gy single-dose radiation exposure in the pelvic region with a Co-60 teletherapy device and investigated 1, 2, and 7 days after radiation exposure, with 1 reference group which was not exposed to radiation...

This article discusses the current status of laparoscopic rectal caner resection through reviewing the recently reported randomized and non-randomized international literatures focusing on laparoscopic as well as robotic-assisted laparoscopic resection for rectal cancer, especially on laparoscopic resection for mid and low rectal cancer. Even though laparoscopic resection for rectal cancer is proven to be safe and available, and to possess same efficacy of traditional open operation, so far multi-center randomized controlled trials about this procedure are limited...

OBJECTIVES: The risks of identifying prostate cancer (PCa) in patients with serum total PSA (tPSA) between 4 and 10 ng/dl are between 25 and 35%. There are no data in Brazil showing the incidence of disease when all variables for PSA assessment are considered altogether, specifically tPSA, free fraction, PSA velocity and PSA stratified by age. The objective in this work was to define the incidence of disease in a population of men with abnormal values of PSA variables and normal digital rectal examination...

AIM: To investigate the number, size, and status of lymph nodes within the mesorectum and to explore the prognostic significance of lymph node micrometastases in patients with rectal cancer. METHODS: Thirty-one patients with rectal cancer undergone total mesorectal excision between October 2001 and October 2002 were included. Mesorectal nodes retrieved from the resected specimens were detected with a combination of haematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining and immunohistochemistry (IHC)...
