This analysis reports on the outcomes of two different steroid sparing immunosuppression protocols used in the management of 120 highly sensitised patients (HSPs) with cRF>85% receiving Alemtuzumab induction, 53 maintained on tacrolimus (FK) monotherapy and 67 tacrolimus plus mycophenolate mofetil (FK + MMF). There was no difference in the median cRF or mode of sensitisation between the two groups, although the FK + MMF cohort received more poorly matched grafts. There was no difference in one-year patient or allograft survival, however rejection free survival was inferior with FK monotherapy compared with FK + MMF at 65...

Immunotactoid glomerulopathy (ITG) is a rare glomerular disease with variable responsiveness to the immunosuppressive therapy and with uncertain prognosis. ITG was diagnosed in two patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with nephrotic syndrome and chronic kidney disease. The absence of diabetic retinopathy in the first case and the recent onset of diabetes in the second case accompanied with sudden increase in the 24-hour proteinuria and rapid decline in kidney function, prompted us to perform kidney biopsy...

Introduction: Patient-Reported Outcomes (PRO) integrate a wide range of holistic dimensions that arenot captured within clinical outcomes. Particularly, from induction treatment to maintenance therapy, patient quality-of-life (QoL) of kidney transplant recipients have been sparsely investigated in international settings. Methods: In a prospective, multi-centric cohort study, including nine transplant centers in four countries, we explored the QoL during the year following transplantation using validated elicitation instruments (EQ-5D-3L index with VAS) in a population of kidney transplant patients receiving immunosuppressive therapies...

Recently, varicella-zoster virus (VZV) reactivation has been observed after the administration of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines. Autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic diseases (AIIRDs) patients are at a higher risk for VZV reactivation for immunocompromised status. The study aimed to investigate the adverse events (AEs), especially VZV reactivation, following vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 in a Chinese cohort of AIIRD patients. A cross-sectional survey using an online questionnaire was conducted among AIIRD patients and healthy controls (HCs)...

BACKGROUND: Protocol kidney biopsy (PKB) in kidney transplant is a useful tool for graft monitoring because the subclinical detection of histologic lesions helps to modulate immunosuppression. We analyze our experience. METHODS: We performed a descriptive study that analyzed the PKB results at the fourth to sixth month and the first year post transplant of patients with kidney transplant followed in our hospital between January 2015 and June 2021. RESULTS: A total of 100 patients and 134 biopsy results were included, of which 71 were obtained between the fourth and sixth month and 63 at the first year...

Background Renal transplantation is the optimal treatment for patients of all ages with end-stage kidney disease. The long-term outcomes of renal transplantation are assessed by graft and patient survival rates. These outcomes are, in turn, influenced by post-transplant events such as delayed graft function, rejections, post-transplant infections, and post-transplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM). Each of these short-term outcomes is, in turn, determined by the interplay of various factors in the pre-, peri-, and post-transplant period...

Many treatments are currently proposed for treating patients with bullous pemphigoid (BP). We assessed treatment modalities of BP depending on the different countries, BP extent, and patients' comorbidities. We surveyed worldwide experts about how they treat patients with BP. A total of 61 experts from 27 countries completed the survey. Severe and moderate BP were treated with oral prednisone (61.4 and 53.7%, respectively) or superpotent topical corticosteroids (CSs) (38.6 and 46.3%, respectively). Conventional immunosuppressants were more frequently combined with oral prednisone (74...
