Partial hepatectomy is an essential surgical technique used to treat advanced liver diseases such as liver tumors, as well as for performing liver transplants from living donors. However, postoperative complications such as bleeding, abdominal adhesions, wound infections, and accelerated liver regeneration pose significant challenges and increase morbidity and mortality rates. We have developed a self-repairing mixed hydrogel (O5H2/Cu2+/SCCK) containing bioactive cell factors (SCCK) derived from Human Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cells (HUMSCs) treated with the traditional Chinese remedy Tanshinone IIA (TSA)...

BACKGROUND: Some studies have found that the application of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of lung cancer has achieved satisfying results. Polyphyllin Ⅲ (PP Ⅲ) is a natural steroid saponin from P. polyphylla var. yunnanensis, and its analogs have played a wide role in anticancer research. This study aimed to investigate the effect of PP Ⅲ on the development of lung cancer and its molecular mechanism. METHODS: A549 and NCI-H1299 cell lines were treated with PP Ⅲ in gradient concentration to detect the IC50 of the cells, and the optimal concentration was selected for subsequent experiments...

BACKGROUND: We administered Bushen Huoxue Huazhuo Formula (BSHXHZF) and transplanted bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) into mice with Wilson's disease (WD)-related liver fibrosis to evaluate the liver-protecting mechanism of this prescription. METHODS: Mice, randomly divided into different treatment groups, showed histopathological changes and degree of hepatocyte apoptosis. For hepatic hydroxyproline (Hyp) determination, transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) and bone morphogenetic protein-7 (BMP-7) mRNA and protein were measured...

Colon cancer is a disease with high prevalence worldwide. This study sought to investigate Kruppel-like factor 17 (KLF17) mechanism in the development of colon cancer through four-and-a-half-LIM domain protein 1 (FHL1). In colon cancer cells, KLF17 and FHL1 expression was detected by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and Western blot. After gain- and loss-of-function experiments in colon cancer cells, cell proliferative, invasive, and migrating abilities were tested by cell counting kit-8, transwell, and scratch assays, respectively...

Malignant melanoma is a kind of malignant tumor derived from normal epidermal melanocytes or original nevus cells. It has high degree of malignancy, rapid progress, dangerous condition and poor prognosis. In recent years, the innovation of traditional Chinese medicine has broadened the scope and effect of tumor treatment. It is a hot spot and breakthrough to find new anti-tumor invasion and migration drugs from natural plants or traditional Chinese medicine. This study explored the role of PPII in promoting autophagy to inhibit EMT of melanoma cells, the role of PI3K/Akt signaling pathway in the invasion and migration of melanoma cells induced by PPII...

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder with motor deficits due to nigrostriatal dopamine depletion and with the non-motor/premotor symptoms (NMS) such as anxiety, cognitive dysfunction, depression, hyposmia, and sleep disorders. NMS is presented in at least one-fifth of the patients with PD. With the histological information being investigated, stem cells are shown to provide neurotrophic supports and cellular replacement in the damaging brain areas under PD conditions. Pathological change of progressive PD includes degeneration and loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra of the midbrain...

The molecular mechanisms of glioblastoma (GBM) are unclear, and the prognosis is poor. Spinster homolog 2 (SPNS2) is reportedly involved in pathological processes such as immune response, vascular development, and cancer. However, the biological function and molecular role of SPNS2 in GBM are unclear. SPNS2 is aberrantly low expressed in glioma. Survival curves, risk scores, prognostic nomograms, and univariate and multifactorial Cox regression analyses showed that SPNS2 is an independent prognostic indicator significantly associated with glioma progression and prognosis...

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for ~85% of all lung cancer cases. Neferine is used as a traditional Chinese medicine with many pharmacological effects, including antitumor properties; however, it has not been reported whether neferine plays an anticancer role by causing pyroptosis in NSCLC cells. We used two typical lung cancer cell lines, A549 and H1299, and 42 lung cancer tissue samples to investigate the regulatory effects of neferine on TGF-β and MST1. We also treated lung cancer cells with different concentrations of neferine to study its effects on lung cancer cell survival, migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) as well as on pyroptosis...

The potential mechanisms mediating the effects of acupuncture include anti-inflammatory and oxidative stress, inhibition of cell apoptosis, and stimulation of the proliferation and differentiation of endogenous stem cells. Traditional Chinese medicine combined with stem cell transplantation have a synergistic effect in the treatment of diseases. Increasing studies have found that acupuncture can promote the proliferation, differentiation, homing and survival of exogenous stem cells...

The scientific basis of acupuncture on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for treating ischemic stroke (IS) is discussed. MSCs transplantation has great potential for the treatment of tissue damage caused by early stage inflammatory cascade reactions of IS, but its actual transformation is limited by various factors. How to improve the homing efficiency of MSCs is the primary issue to enhance its efficacy. As such, the possible mechanisms of acupuncture and MSCs transplantation in inhibiting inflammatory cascade reactions induced by IS are explored by reviewing literature, and a hypothesis that acupuncture could promote the secretion of stromal cell-derived factor-1α (SDF-1α) from ischemic foci to regulate SDF-1α/CXC chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4) axis, thereby improving the homing efficiency of MSCs transplantation, exerting its neuroprotective function, and improving the bed transformation ability, is proposed...
