OBJECTIVE: To know if radiological relationship exists among the index corticodiaphyseal of Lizaur Utrilla (ICD) and the corticofemoral diaphyseal of Gómez García (ICDF) with the density bony (DMO) mineral column power station and hip for the diagnosis of osteoporosis; with the purpose of optimizing the simple X-ray of hip well during the valuation of the bony quality. MATERIAL AND METHOD: One carries out a study of field, traverse, comparative, descriptive and observational, where you study a representative sample of 90 feminine patients divides in three equal groups: group 1:30 healthy (control) patients from 20 to 40 years of age; group 2: patient postmenopausal and group 3:30 patients with the diagnose of hip fracture; same that were subjected to studies of simple X-ray of hip including the femur proximal as well as central DMO, stops later to obtain those mentioned indexes before mentioned...

The effect of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) on ischemia-reperfusion injury of skeletal muscle, applied during different periods, was studied in 56 male rats. Animals were subjected to 6-h ischemia by a tourniquet over the major femoral trocanter and 4 (A) or 24 (B) h of reperfusion. HBO was carried out during 1 h in an acrylic chamber at a pressure of 2.0 ATA (100% oxygen): in the last 60 min of ischemia (II), after ischemia, during 1-h reperfusion time (III), and during the last hour of ischemia plus 1-h reperfusion (IV)...

BACKGROUND: it is well accepted that the inhaled administration of steroids is efficacious and has fewer side effects than the systemic use. Among them fluticasone propionate (FP) has been said to cause the similar antiasthma effect without unfavorable side effect at half the dose of the other ICS. The aim of the study was to compare the effects of FP 500 microg/day and budesonide (BUD) 800 microg/day as a pressurized metered dose inhaler (pMDI) for one year on clinical indices determined by FEV1 and diurnal variation of PEFR (peak expiratory flow rates) and on laboratory indices determined by serum cortisol and bone mineral density (BMD)...

A retrospective analysis of 24 patients with established osteoporosis and with ten or more years of menopause treated with conjugated estrogen, progesterone and calcium followed for one year has been performed. Treated women received 0.625 mg/day of conjugated estrogen from day 1 to 25, 5 mg/day of medroxiprogesterone from day 13 to 25, of each cycle, plus calcium (500-1000 mg/day), during one year (12 cycles). As control group was used 18 age-matched that received only calcium (500 a 1000 mg/day). All patients had at least two dual-photon spine and proximal femur (neck, Ward's triangle and trocanter) densities measurements performed 12 months apart...

The relationship between vitamin D and bone density was studied in 150 selected, mature (45-74), postmenopausal women with a lumbar spine Z score below 0. Vitamin D status was evaluated using calcidiol serum levels. Serum calcitriol and parathyroid hormone (PTH) values were also evaluated in some subjects. Bone mass was evaluated by ascertaining bone density and Z and T scores in the lumbar spine and femur region. The reference group consisted of 25 premenopausal women. The postmenopausal group was divided into subgroups according to age, i...
