With the rapid development of 5G communication technology, microwave dielectric ceramics with high dielectric constants are very conducive to the miniaturization of passive devices. Here, Ba3 Ti4- x (Ni1/3 Nb2/3 ) x Nb4 O21 (BTN ∼ NN, 0.03 ≤ x ≤ 0.15) ceramics with hexagonal phases are synthesized via the solid-phase route. The composite (Ni1/3 Nb2/3 )4+ ion substitution strategy can substantially improve the microwave dielectric properties of the Ba3 Ti4 Nb4 O21 (BTN) ceramic. The εr and Q × f values depend on the ionicity (Nb-O bonds) and lattice energies (Nb(1)-O3 and Nb(1)-O2(1) bonds)...

Vγ9Vδ2 T cells are specialized effector cells that have gained prominence as immunotherapy agents due to their ability to target and kill cells with altered pyrophosphate metabolites. In our effort to understand how cancer cells evade the cell-killing activity of Vγ9Vδ2 T cells, we performed a comprehensive genome-scale CRISPR screening of cancer cells. We found that four molecules belonging to the butyrophilin (BTN) family, specifically BTN2A1, BTN3A1, BTN3A2, and BTN3A3, are critically important and play unique, nonoverlapping roles in facilitating the destruction of cancer cells by primary Vγ9Vδ2 T cells...

Modern approaches to discovering molecular mechanisms and validating treatments for age-related neuromusculoskeletal dysfunction typically rely on high-throughput transcriptome analysis. Previously harvested and fixed tissues offer an incredible reservoir of untapped molecular information. However, obtaining RNA from such formaldehyde-fixed neuromusculoskeletal tissues, especially fibrotic aged tissues, is technically challenging and often results in RNA degradation, chemical modification and yield reduction, prohibiting further analysis...

The subgingival microbiome has been implicated in oral and systemic diseases such as periodontitis and Alzheimer's disease. However, subgingival sampling is challenging. We developed a novel method of sampling the subgingival microbiome by rotationally swabbing the supragingival area, named subgingival-P (for proxy) samples. We sampled and metatranscriptomically analyzed subgingival and subgingival-P samples of three different teeth in 20 individuals. The subgingival-P samples were comparable to the subgingival samples in the relative abundances of microorganisms and microbial gene expression levels...

BACKGROUND: The duck (Anas platyrhynchos) is one of the principal natural hosts of influenza A virus (IAV), harbors almost all subtypes of IAVs and resists to many IAVs which cause extreme virulence in chicken and human. However, the response of duck's adaptive immune system to IAV infection is poorly characterized due to lack of a detailed gene map of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC). RESULTS: We herein reported a chromosome-scale Beijing duck assembly by integrating Nanopore, Bionano, and Hi-C data...

Despite having been formally defined over 150 years ago, the etiology of multiple sclerosis (MS) is still relatively unknown. However, it is now recognized as a multifactorial disease in which genetics, infection, immune function, and environment play a role. We propose an additional piece to the puzzle: milk. In this review, milk is highlighted as a potential risk factor for MS. We examine the overall correlation between bovine milk consumption and the incidence of MS. We then discuss possible mechanisms that may explain the positive association between milk consumption and the development of MS...

Ethephon (ETH) is widely used to promote fruit ripening and improve fruit quality. However, improper use is harmful to human health and to the environmental safety. Therefore, development of the techniques for on-site and at real-time monitoring of ETH is of importance for its safe use. In this work, we developed a nanofilm-based fluorescence film sensor (FFS) and realized highly efficient detection of ETH in vapor phase, where the detection limit (DL) is <0.2 ppb, the response time is less than 10 s, and the interference is almost free...

Programmed-1 ribosomal frameshifting (-1 PRF) is a translational mechanism adopted by some viruses, including SARS-CoV-2. To find a compound that can inhibit -1 PRF in SARS-CoV-2, we set up a high-throughput screening system using a HeLa cell extract-derived cell-free protein synthesis (CFPS) system. A total of 32,000 compounds were individually incubated with the CFPS system programmed with a -1 PRF-EGFP template. Several compounds were observed to decrease the -1 PRF-driven fluorescence, and one of them had some suppressive effect on -1 PRF of a SARS-CoV-2 genome sequence in transfected cells...

BACKGROUND: Percutaneous balloon compression (PBC) of the Gasserian ganglion is steadily gaining traction within the trigeminal neuralgia (TN) community. Bilateral trigeminal neuralgia (BTN) is a rare condition, and its treatment remains challenging. As far as we know, there are currently no research reports on the treatment outcomes of PBC for BTN.The purpose of this study is to meticulously evaluate the efficacy and safety of PBC for BTN in our medical institution. METHODS: In this retrospective study, we collected and analyzed the medical records of all patients with BTN who underwent the PBC procedure at the Department of Neurosurgery at Hebei General Hospital from July 2017 to July 2023...

AIMS: The negative impact on quality of life and the economic-related burden to the patient and the health care system associated with idiopathic overactive bladder (iOAB) is well-documented. Intradetrusor OnabotulinumtoxinA (BTN/A) injections are a well-used treatment modality for the management of overactive detrusor refractory to medical management, with well-documented efficacy and safety profiles. There is currently no best practice guideline for the administration of BTN/A for this procedure and historically the trigone of the bladder has been excluded from the injection paradigm given the risk of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR)...
