The Internet plays a pervasive role in modern life including the expression of human sexuality and sexual offending. A range of online sexual activities may be of interest in forensic mental health evaluations (FMHE), including those which are clearly illegal or those which are legal but functionally problematic. Online sexual offenses will clearly prompt forensic evaluators to consider the role of the Internet in these offending behaviors. The Internet may also be relevant in forensic evaluations of contact sexual offending including informing on history of mixed or cross-over offending, and Internet-facilitated contact offenses...

What proportion of minors who engage in sexting find themselves involved in an episode of image abuse? The data come from a US nationally representative sample of 2639 respondents aged 18-28 reporting about experiences before the age of 18, of whom 23% had engaged in sexting as minors. Among those who sexted the rate of image abuse was 37%, a risk ratio of 13.2 compared to those who did not engage in sexting. For females who sexted the victimization rate was particularly high, but sexting increased risk for females and males...

Problematic pornography use (PPU) is a burgeoning area of clinical interest. The Brief Pornography Screen (BPS) is a new PPU measure. The BPS has not been psychometrically studied within specific race/cultural groups. We sought to broaden the PPU literature by examining the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) fit, measurement invariance, and structural invariance of the BPS across eight identity groups. Participants came from a survey administered at three U.S. universities. In total, n  = 2,475 participants were analyzed, with the following identity group breakdowns: Asian American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) male = 268, AAPI female = 303, Black male = 101, Black female = 189, Latin male = 208, Latin female = 372, White male = 432, and White female = 602...

The idiographic technical profiles of child sexual exploitation material (CSEM) offenders provide insight into their behaviours and context for their interactions with technology, but minimal quantitative work has been done to evaluate their sociability, technical ability and technophilia compared to non-offenders. This work used an online survey to compare an offender group consisting of English-speaking adults previously convicted of CSEM offenses ( N  = 78) with a reference population of non-offenders ( N  = 254)...

Pornography use is a common sexual activity for many individuals including those in a romantic relationship. Some studies have shown that violent content depicted in pornography is a risk factor for perpetration of violence in real life. Even if most of these studies examined perpetration of violent behaviors in general, not specifically toward the intimate partner, some studies have shown that pornography use frequency is related to a greater perpetration of intimate partner violence (IPV), while other studies have found that it is not significantly related...

OBJECTIVE: There is a growing consensus that problematic pornography use (PPU), one of the most commonly reported compulsive sexual behaviors, is related to a number of internalizing psychiatric symptoms (e.g., anxiety, depression). However, little is known about the potential comorbidity of PPU and suicidal thoughts. Given known links between PPU and higher levels of guilt, shame, and moral disapproval, it may be that PPU may be related to suicidal thoughts. METHOD: Using two independent samples, we cross-sectionally (Sample 1: undergraduates, n = 422) and longitudinally (Sample 2: nationally representative sample of U...

BACKGROUND: Several studies indicate that compulsive sexual behavior disorder (CSBD) shares core elements with substance use disorder (SUD). These findings support the assumption of common mechanisms in addiction, which may lead to a higher tendency in patients with SUD to have comorbid CSBD. Nevertheless, this relationship between CSBD and SUD is poorly understood to date. AIM: This study aimed to compare the prevalence of CSBD and its subtype pornography use disorder (PUD) between a SUD group and a matched control group...

The successful investigation and prosecution of significant crimes, including child pornography, insurance fraud, movie piracy, traffic monitoring, and scientific fraud, hinge largely on the availability of solid evidence to establish the case beyond any reasonable doubt. When dealing with digital images/videos as evidence in such investigations, there is a critical need to conclusively prove the source camera/device of the questioned image. Extensive research has been conducted in the past decade to address this requirement, resulting in various methods categorized into brand, model, or individual image source camera identification techniques...

Pornography and, more broadly, the consumption of sexually explicit images are not new phenomena. However, the rise of new technologies has significantly facilitated access to this type of content, especially among young people. In what family context does the use of digital tools occur? What are the stakes of exposure in children and adolescents? What impacts on psychosexual development? What are the reasons for the difficulty in restricting this behaviour? Is there an addictive dimension? Health professionals and trusted adults have a role to play, both in preventing exposure to unsolicited and potentially shocking content, and in opening up a dialogue in the case of problematic situations for the child or adolescent...

This article is based on interviews with 23 North American webcammers and explores how these models shape their boundaries based on different personal, social, and legal factors. This essay situates Kathy Acker's work in the feminist sex wars debate of the 1980s. I suggest that the critique of Acker's work as a "nihilist version of the personal is political" is not ungrounded but might more usefully be understood as a "sex negativity" that emerges from specific feminist avant-garde literary devices. I discuss Acker's early texts, "Politics" (1972) and "Stripper Disintegration" (1973) to show how sexuality defines Acker's esthetic and political project. I consider the (negative) feminist reception of Acker's work, lay out how Acker was involved in the pornography debate, and I bring Acker's work into conversation with Andrea Dworkin's thought...
