In this paper, we will introduce the concept of deformable resection process mapping as a time-varying geometric guide for soft tissue tumor resection procedures. The deformable resection process map (RPM) estimates the local appearance of vascular structures after cuts as a novel guide. The RPM can be directly generated from patient-specific medical images using volumetric resampling techniques. Since user input of some cutting points is the only requirement for generating the RPM, the developed software will be directly available for clinical use to preview surgical procedures and intraoperative workflow management without time-consuming setups or additional workloads...

This study aims at evaluating Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) as a reliable technique for the characterization of viscoelastic properties of soft tissues. Three phantoms with different concentrations of plastisol and softener were prepared in order to mechanically mimic a broad panel of healthy and pathological soft tissues. Once placed in a MRI device, each sample was excited by a homemade external driver, inducing shear waves within the medium. The incidence of primary total elbow arthroplasty (TEA) in young patients is increasing. The indications for revision surgery are also rising. Here, we report a rare case of pseudotumor detected in a patient 16 years after TEA. Intraoperative findings revealed a necrotic mass characterized by a conspicuous metallosis in the soft tissues around the prosthesis, which caused ulnar nerve dislocation. Due to this anatomical change, a lesion of the nerve was accidentally produced during revision surgery.
