Gamma radiation technique for the preparation of pure hydrogels is gaining popularity worldwide. Superabsorbent hydrogels play vital roles in different fields of application. The present work mainly focuses on the preparation and characterization of 2,3-Dimethylacrylic acid-(2-Acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propane sulfonic acid) (DMAA-AMPSA) superabsorbent hydrogel by applying gamma radiation and optimization of the proper dose. To prepare DMAA-AMPSA hydrogel, different doses ranging from 2 kGy to 30 kGy were imparted on the blend aqueous solution of the monomers...

Multiple responsive hydrogels are usually constructed by the addition of many different functional groups. Generally, these groups have different responsive behaviors which lead to interleaved and complex modes of the multi-response system. It is difficult to get a practical application. In this study, we show that multi-response hydrogels can also be constructed using dynamic bonds as crosslinks. The multiple responsive hydrogel films with thicknesses on the sub-micrometer or micrometer scale can be fabricated from P(DMAA-3-AAPBA), a copolymer of N,N-dimethylacrylamide, 3-(acrylamido)phenylboronic acid, and poly(vinylalcohol) (PVA) though a simple layer-by-layer (LbL) technique...

BACKGROUND: When evaluating hallux valgus (HV) deformity with anteroposterior (AP) foot radiographs, the distal metatarsal articular angle (DMAA) has been the subject of frequent debate. Although a straightforward indicator of structural alignment of the distal first metatarsal articular surface, inter- and intraobserver measurements can vary widely. Alterations in the radiographic appearance of bony "structure" with positional changes of the foot/foot bones in HV deformities in no small part contributes to these inaccuracies...

Water pollution from dyes is harmful to the environment, plants, animals, and humans and is one of the most widespread problems afflicting people throughout the world. Adsorption is a widely used method to remove contaminants derived from the textile industry, food colorants, printing, and cosmetic manufacturing from water. Here, aiming to develop new low-cost and up-scalable adsorbent materials for anionic dye remediation and water decontamination by electrostatic interactions, two cationic resins (R1 and R2) were prepared...

BACKGROUND: Hallux valgus (HV) is a common cause of pain and deformity of the forefoot. Minimally invasive chevron Akin (MICA) bunionectomy is a method for HV correction associated with less pain and swelling, with early return to weightbearing in a regular shoe. The purpose of this study was to determine how the MICA procedure affects forefoot width. METHODS: Twenty-eight patients (26 female, 2 male; 9 left, 19 right) at a single institution who underwent primary MICA for HV correction by 3 treating surgeons were retrospectively reviewed...

Different surgical techniques have been described to correct the deformity, but no consensus has been reached regarding the best surgical option. The aim of this retrospective study was to report the results of the SERI technique in 58 pediatric HV of 45 consecutive patients. To control the filtration loss of drilling fluids in salt-gypsum formations, a novel type of zwitterionic polymer gel (DNDAP) was synthesized by free radical polymerization, which was used as a salt- and calcium-resistant fluid loss reducer for water-based drilling fluids (WBDF). DNDAP was prepared with N, N-dimethylacrylamide (DMAA), N-vinylpyrrolidone (NVP), Diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (DMDAAC), 2-acrylamide-2-methylpropaneonic acid (AMPS), and isopentenol polyether (TPEG) as raw materials. Self-initiated photografting and photopolymerization (SI-PGP) uses UV illumination to graft polymers to surfaces without additional photoinitiators using the monomers as initiators, "inimers". A wider use of this method is obstructed by a lack of understanding of the resulting, presumably heterogeneous, polymer structure and of the parallel degradation under continuous UV illumination. We have used neutron reflectometry to investigate the structure of hydrated SI-PGP-prepared poly(HEMA- co -PEG10 MA) (poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate- co- (ethylene glycol)10 methacrylate)) films and compared parabolic, sigmoidal, and Gaussian models for the polymer volume fraction distributions...

Nowadays, new water disinfection materials attract a lot of attention for their cost-saving and ease of application. Nevertheless, the poor durability of the matrices and the loss of physically incorporated or chemically attached antibacterial agents that can occur during water purification processes considerably limit their prolonged use. In this study, a polystyrene-based cationic resin (R4) with intrinsic broad-spectrum antibacterial effects was produced without needing to be enriched with additional antibacterial agents that could detach during use...

PURPOSE: Controlling small interfering RNA (siRNA) activity by external stimuli is useful to exert a selective therapeutic effect at the target site. This study aims to develop a technology to control siRNA activity in a thermo-responsive manner, which can be utilized even at temperatures close to body temperature. METHODS: siRNA was conjugated with a thermo-responsive copolymer that was synthesized by copolymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) and hydrophilic N,N-dimethylacrylamide (DMAA) to permit thermally controlled interaction between siRNA and an intracellular gene silencing-related protein by utilizing the coil-to-globule phase transition of the copolymer...

The molecular weight of the TPU is controlled to further influence the mechanical and processing properties of the polyurethane.
