Mucinous carcinomas arising within an ovarian dermoid tumor are rare. Most of the cases reported in the literature show morphological features resembling an appendiceal mucinous neoplasm. They exhibit CK7-/CK20+ immunophenotype similar to carcinomas of the lower gastrointestinal tract. In this report, we have described a case of a well-differentiated mucinous carcinoma arising within a mature cystic teratoma. The mucinous carcinoma showed a spectrum of morphological patterns, including cystadenoma-like areas, proliferative/borderline areas, villous adenoma-like areas, and areas of invasive carcinoma...

BACKGROUND: Pancreaticobiliary maljunction (PBM) is a known risk factor for biliary tract cancer. However, its association with carcinoma of the papilla of Vater (PVca) remains unknown. We report a case with PVca that was thought to be caused by the hyperplasia-dysplasia-carcinoma sequence, which is considered a mechanism underlying PBM-induced biliary tract cancer. CASE PRESENTATION: A 70-year-old woman presented with white stool and had a history of cholecystectomy for the diagnosis of a non-dilated biliary tract with PBM...

OBJECTIVES: TFE3-rearranged renal cell carcinomas (RCCs) harbor gene fusions between TFE3 and 1 of many partner genes. MED15::TFE3 fusion RCC is rare, often cystic, and easily misdiagnosed. METHODS: This study aimed to characterize 2 cases of MED15::TFE3 fusion RCC with extensive cystic change using fluorescence in situ hybridization and targeted RNA sequencing. RESULTS: Both patients were young adult women aged 29 and 35 years. Radiologically, both presented with a cystic Bosniak category II renal lesion...

Cholangiolocarcinoma (CLC) is a primary liver carcinoma that resembles the canals of Hering and that has been reported to be associated with stem cell features. Due to its rarity, the nature of CLC remains unclear, and its pathological classification remains controversial. To clarify the positioning of CLC in primary liver cancers and identify characteristics that could distinguish CLC from other liver cancers, we performed integrated analyses using whole-exome sequencing (WES), immunohistochemistry, and a retrospective review of clinical information on eight CLC cases and two cases of recurrent CLC...

UNLABELLED: Endometriosis (E) and adenomyosis (A) are associated with a wide spectrum of symptoms and may present various histopathological transformations, such as the presence of hyperplasia, atypia, and malignant transformation occurring under the influence of local inflammatory, vascular and hormonal factors and by the alteration of tumor suppressor proteins and the inhibition of cell apoptosis, with an increased degree of lesion proliferation. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective study included 243 patients from whom tissue with E/A or normal control uterine tissue was harvested and stained by histochemical and classical immunohistochemical staining...

Dual-phenotype hepatocellular carcinoma (DPHCC) is a new subtype of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the computerized tomography scan (CT) imaging and clinicopathologic features of DPHCC. The CT imaging and clinicopathologic data of 97 HCC cases who underwent radical resection were collected retrospectively. The CT imaging feature was evaluated by the ratio of the average CT value of tumor to liver (TLR) in the plain scan, arterial, portal vein and delayed phases...

INTRODUCTION: The syncytiotrophoblast (STB) of the human placenta facilitates vital maternal-fetal communication and is maintained by fusion (syncytialization) of cytotrophoblasts. Serine protease HtrA4 (high temperature requirement factor A4) is highly expressed only in the human placenta and was previously reported to be important for BeWo fusion. This study investigated whether HtrA4 is critical for differentiation of human trophoblast stem cells (TSCs) into STB. METHODS: Primary TSCs were isolated from first trimester placentas (n = 5) and validated by immunofluorescence (IF) for CD49f, CK7 and vimentin...

OBJECTIVE: Clear cell papillary renal cell tumour (CCPRCT) is a kind of renal epithelial cell tumor, and was renamed by the 5th WHO due to its specific epidemiology and clinicopathological characteristics. However, the biological mechanism and molecular basis of CCPRCT still need to be further clarified. This study aims to comprehensively evaluate clinicopathologic and molecular characteristics of CCPRCC, and particularly compare it with other more prevalent subtypes of renal cell carcinoma...

Breast cancer is a significant global health concern, contributing to substantial morbidity and mortality among women. Hormone receptor-positive (HR+)/HER2-negative (HER2-) breast cancer constitutes a considerable proportion of cases, and significant advancements have been made in its management. CDK4/6 inhibitors (CDK4/6is) are a new targeted therapy that has demonstrated efficacy in adjuvant, advanced and metastatic settings. The propensity of lobular breast carcinomas for estrogen-rich sites, such as periocular tissues and orbital fat, may explain their tendency for orbital metastases...

Ovarian mature teratomas are benign, but malignant transformation can occur infrequently, especially in women of advanced age. The tissue that undergoes malignant change is mostly squamous cell carcinoma, although adenocarcinoma has been reported in a small number of cases. The immunostaining results of adenocarcinoma usually show a cytokeratin (CK)7-/CK20+ expression profile, corresponding to lower gastrointestinal tract origin. In this report, we describe a case of mucinous carcinoma arising from an ovarian mature teratoma showing a CK7+/CK20+ profile and discuss its imaging features...

For these reasons, there is an urgent need to understand its pathological mechanisms and develop effective treatments. Somatic cells that have been partially reprogrammed by the factors Oct4, Sox2, Klf4, and cMyc (OSKM) have been demonstrated to be potentially tumorigenic in vitro and in vivo due to the acquisition of cancer-associated genomic alterations and the absence of OSKM clearance over time. In the present study we obtained partially reprogrammed, SSEA1-negative cells by transducing murine hepatocytes with Δ1Δ3-deleted adenoviruses that expressed the four OSKM factors. We observed that, under long-term 2D and 3D culture conditions, hepatocytes could be converted into LGR5-positive cells with self-renewal capacity that was dependent on three cross-signaling pathways: IL6/Jak/Stat3, LGR5/R-spondin, and Wnt/β-catenin...

Mixed-type ampullary cancer is a distinct subtype of ampullary cancer that manifests a merging of the biological characteristics of both intestinal and pancreaticobiliary subtypes. The absence of established cell lines specific to this subtype has resulted in a concomitant scarcity of research on its tumorigenic mechanisms and the development of novel therapeutic modalities. The present study achieved the successful establishment of a novel mixed-type ampullary cancer cell line, designated DPC-X4 through primary culture techniques...

Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome (BHD) represents a rare autosomal dominant tumor predisposition syndrome characterized by skin lesions, lung cysts, and renal tumors. The predominant histological subtypes of BHD-related renal tumors include hybrid oncocytoma-chromophobe tumors, oncocytomas, and chromophobe renal cell carcinomas, all exhibiting eosinophilic/oncocytic features. Immunohistochemistry staining for KIT (CD117) and CK7 exhibits variability in these tumor types. Germline mutations in FLCN have been consistently identified...
