In recent years, there has been a rapid increase in the prevalence of benign and malignant tumours of the thyroid gland worldwide, positioning it as one of the most prevalent neoplasms within the endocrine system. While the pathogenesis of thyroid tumours is still unclear, an increasing number of studies have found that certain lifestyle and residence environments are associated with their occurrence and development. This article endeavours to elucidate the correlation between lifestyle, residential environment, and the increased prevalence of thyroid cancer in recent years...

In the current arena of time, the transformation of society has improved the standard of living in terms of lifestyle and their nutritional demands and requirements. The microorganisms under controlled conditions and the enzymatic transformation of dietary components are the processes that resulted in fermented foods and beverages. Fermented dairy products with high nutritional value are "the pearls of the dairy industry." During fermentation, fermented dairy products produce bioactive compounds and metabolites derived from bacteria...

Arsenic is a natural element found in the earth's crust and is extensively present in various environmental components. Anthropogenic activities and a few natural events have generated contaminants that have led to massive environmental pollution, one form of which is arsenic contamination. Arsenic enters the human food chain via contaminated crops, water, seafood, and dairy products. In Pakistan, the increasing concentration of arsenic in the water is causing major health problems. Due to the serious health risks posed by arsenic, it is crucial to design and implement strategies for reducing and preventing the bioaccumulation of arsenic and its entry into the human food chain...

BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers, posing a serious public health challenge that necessitates the development of new therapeutics, therapies, and prevention methods. Among the various therapeutic approaches, interventions involving lactic acid bacteria (LAB) as probiotics and postbiotics have emerged as promising candidates for treating and preventing CRC. While human-isolated LAB strains are considered highly favorable, those sourced from environmental reservoirs such as dairy and fermented foods are also being recognized as potential sources for future therapeutics...

BACKGROUND: Epidemiological evidence suggests that a potential association between dietary protein intake and cardiovascular disease (CVD) may depend on the protein source, that is, plant- or animal-derived, but past research was limited and inconclusive. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the association of dietary plant- or animal-derived protein consumption with risk of CVD, and its components ischemic heart disease (IHD) and stroke. METHODS: This analysis in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC)-CVD case-cohort study included 16,244 incident CVD cases (10,784 IHD and 6423 stroke cases) and 15,141 subcohort members from 7 European countries...

The adult life stage encompasses a range of new experiences, opportunities, and responsibilities that impact health and well-being. During this life stage, health disparities continue to increase for Black Americans, with Black adults having a disproportionate burden of obesity, chronic diseases, comorbidities, and worse treatment outcomes compared to their White peers. While many of the underlying factors for these disparities can be linked to longstanding sociopolitical factors such as systemic racism, food insecurity, and poor access to healthcare, there are also several modifiable risk factors that are known to significantly impact health outcomes, such as improving diet quality, increasing physical activity, and not smoking...

The present study performed a comprehensive meta-analysis with the aim of providing evidence for any connection between the risk of developing PLC and the consumption of dairy products. For this purpose, eligible studies were screened from the PubMed, Cochrane Library and Embase databases before December 2022. A total of 10 cohort studies and 8 case-control studies were included, making a total of 18 studies with 6,562,714 participants and 7,970 PLC cases...

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Cancer risk reduction remains a significant concern for both individuals with a cancer diagnosis and those aiming to prevent it. Dairy products, a source of beneficial dietary nutrients, have sparked controversy regarding their impact on cancer risk. RECENT FINDINGS: Evidence indicates that dairy consumption, particularly milk, can decrease colorectal cancer risk. However, cow's milk, a key dairy product, exposes individuals to growth hormones, notably insulin-like growth factor-1, potentially elevating cancer risk...

Peritoneal cancer is the invasion by malignant cells of serous membrane that lines the abdominal cavity, the viscera, and the coelom of the amniotes. Histologically, it is indistinguishable from ovarian counterpart, although in the former, it commonly involves the ovary only superficially, or it may totally lack an ovarian component, but with extensive involvement of the peritoneum, calcified perihepatic peritoneal nodules, or involvement of the omentum, in most cases. The current study describes the case of a 54-year-old female patient referring a history of colitis and dairy intolerance...

Bovine leukemia virus (BLV) is a retrovirus that causes enzootic bovine leucosis (EBL), which is the most significant neoplastic disease in cattle. Although EBL has been successfully eradicated in most European countries, infections continue to rise in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Japan, and the United States. BLV imposes a substantial economic burden on the cattle industry, particularly in dairy farming, as it leads to a decline in animal production performance and increases the risk of disease. Moreover, trade restrictions on diseased animals and products between countries and regions further exacerbate the problem...
