Twelve years after the first edition of The Guideline for Gynecological Practice, which was jointly edited by The Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology and The Japan Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the 5th Revised Edition was published in 2023. The 2023 Guidelines includes 5 additional clinical questions (CQs), which brings the total to 103 CQ (12 on infectious disease, 30 on oncology and benign tumors, 29 on endocrinology and infertility and 32 on healthcare for women). Currently, a consensus has been reached on the Guidelines, and therefore, the objective of this report is to present the general policies regarding diagnostic and treatment methods used in standard gynecological outpatient care that are considered appropriate...

Gliomatosis peritonei (GP) and Growing Teratoma Syndrome (GTS) are rare and clinically significant conditions often associated with ovarian teratomas. GP involves the development of benign glial implants on the peritoneal surface, while GTS is characterised by the growth of benign, yet enlarging peritoneal implants following chemotherapy for malignant germ cell tumours. These implants are typically histologically mature teratomas devoid of malignancy. Our report documents a unique case where both GP and GTS manifested in a patient undergoing treatment for an immature ovarian teratoma...

OBJECTIVES: To assess the age-specific cumulative live birth rates (CLBRs) in intrauterine insemination (IUI) cycles using either donor or husband sperm, and to investigate the impact of sperm sources on IUI success among women within the same age group. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study comprised women who underwent IUI with donor sperm (IUI-D) or husband sperm (IUI-H) from 2017 to 2021. The women were stratified based on their age at the initiation of insemination into four categories: <35, 35-37, 38-39 and ≥40 years...

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether adenomyosis is present in the cornual portion of hysterectomies of symptomatic sterilization device users and in patients hysterectomized for different benign causes and who presented with pelvic pain and/or menstrual alterations. METHODS: An observational, analytical, cross-sectional, single-center, retrospective cohort study was conducted in a secondary level hospital. Cohort 1 consisted of women who had Essure® hysteroscopic sterilization devices inserted between 2009 and 2017, who developed gynecologic symptoms (pelvic pain, heavy menstrual bleeding, and/or abnormal uterine bleeding) and who underwent a hysterectomy for explantation of the devices...

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the disparity of the expectations and basic knowledge of prenatal ultrasound (US) screening among pregnant women and make a comparison with the current scientific knowledge and national recommendations. We hypothesize that sociodemographic factors, including age, education, and professional occupation, may be associated with different levels of knowledge. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study performed in 2021 of 336 women aged 18 to 46 years in a maternity facility in a tertiary hospital in Portugal...

OBJECTIVES: At our center, natural home-like delivery settings have been established in or near conventional labor wards, for the care of pregnant women who prefer little or no medical intervention during labor and birth. We compared obstetrical and neonatal outcomes of women in active spontaneous labor, between those who chose to deliver in a natural-delivery setup and those who chose a conventional setting. METHODS: This retrospective study included low-risk women who delivered at term between March 1, 2020 and December 31, 2022, in a single tertiary university affiliated medical center...

PURPOSE: To investigate the association between neonatal birthweight (NBW) discordance and preeclampsia (PE) in twin pregnancy. METHODS: This was a single-center retrospective cohort study. Women with two live births in the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from January 2011 to June 2020 were eligible. They were classified into four groups based on the quartiles of NBW discordance in monochorionic (MC) and dichorionic (DC) twin pregnancy. The relationship between NBW discordance and the risk of PE was assessed by logistic regression, subgroup analyses was further analyzed...

BACKGROUND: Prediction of pregnancies at risk of preterm birth (PTB) may allow targeted prevention strategies. OBJECTIVES: To assess quality of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) and identify areas of agreement and contention in prediction and prevention of spontaneous PTB. SEARCH STRATEGY: We searched for CPGs regarding PTB prediction and prevention in asymptomatic singleton pregnancies without language restriction in January 2024. SELECTION CRITERIA: CPGs included were published between July 2017 and December 2023 and contained statements intended to direct clinical practice...

OBJECTIVE: Apolipoprotein E (APOE) is the most important precursor for the production of steroid hormones and is also involved in regulating the function of steroid hormones, hence playing a significant role in reproductive processes. So, APOE gene expression may be correlated with the implantation process. This study tries to make a better clarification of the correlation between APOE gene polymorphisms and recurrent implantation failure (RIF), where we compared the frequency of APOE polymorphisms in RIF patients, assisted reproductive treatment (ART) success cases and fertile women...

OBJECTIVE: Public health interventions promoted during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic to control viral spread have impacted the occurrence of other communicable disease. Yet no studies have focused on perinatal infections with the potential for neonatal sequelae, including cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Toxoplasma gondii (TG).
