Volume loading of the right ventricle (RV) in patients with atrial septal defect (ASD) and patients with repaired Tetralogy of Fallot (rToF) affects the pumping mechanics of the left ventricle (LV). Intervention of the lesion will relieve the RV volume load however quantifiable impact on exercise capacity, arrhytmias or death are limited. A possible explanation could be remaining effects on the function of the LV. The aim of this study was therefore to investigate if hemodynamics of the LV differs between patients with RV volume load due to ASD or rToF and healthy controls and if they change after intervention...

In patients with congenital heart disease (CHD), reduced exercise capacity can be a predictor for late complications and may be used to guide interventions. Yet, the interpretation of exercise capacity is challenged by changes in body composition during growth. Our aim was to create an overview of disease-specific exercise capacity in children with CHD. We performed a multicentre retrospective study of exercise capacity of CHD patients, aged 6-18 years, tested between January 2001 and October 2018. Sex-specific distribution graphs were made using the LMS method and height to relate to body size...

This study comprised 165 cases of coronary artery spasm (147 men and 18 women) with an average age of 49,2 years (range 27 to 73 years). Smoking was a particularly significant risk factor. Symptoms were usually of recent onset (80%) and dominated by attacks of angina pectoris either at rest alone or associated with angina of effort. 14% of cases of spasm were observed during acute myocardial infarction. Some cases presented with syncope due to cardiac arrhytmias. The basal electrocardiogramme was normal in 53% of cases...

The clinical efficacy of amiodarone was observed in a group of 20 patients (9 women and 11 men) with a total 21 supraventricular tachyarrhythmias (16 paroxysms or premature supraventricular beats (PSB) and 5 with established arrhythmias), to whom amiodarone was given during one month: 800 mg/day the first week and 400 mg/day for 3 weeks. An electrocardiogram and a 24 hour Holter were taken before and after treatment. The results observed for paroxysmal arrhytmias and PSB were excellent in 94% and satisfactory in one patient...

The effect of a beta-receptor-blocking drug (200 mg Acebutolol pr os) on exercise-stimulated extrabeats (ES) by an ergometrical test was studied in 56 subjects. A reduction of the frequency of premature beats to minimally 50% was considered to be a positive result, which was found in 32 subjects. The best result could be observed in old people, in supraventricular and in the case of a fairly low number of ES. On the other hand the effect was smaller in young people, in ventricular and in frequent extra beats...
