BACKGROUND: Research to improve healthcare experiences for women with vaginismus tends to be produced from the perspective of healthcare professionals or health-based researchers. There is lacking research on women's experiences and recommendations to improve help-seeking for vaginismus from their perspective. To address this research gap, this qualitative study aimed to identify the issues that women face when help-seeking for vaginismus and their recommendations to address it. This sought to support the wellbeing of patients to advocate for their healthcare needs which is often overlooked...

Parents of a child with a chronic illness can experience greater distress than the average population, yet little is understood about differences between illness groups. This cross-sectional survey study aimed to compare parents' psychological distress and perceived wellbeing across five chronic illnesses. Parents from one Australian pediatric hospital completed the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale and seven purpose-designed items about their wellbeing. Data from 106 parents (cancer = 48, cystic fibrosis [CF] = 27, kidney disease = 12, gastrointestinal condition/disorder = 9, developmental and epileptic encephalopathy [DEE] = 10) was analysed using bivariate Pearson's Correlation and linear mixed-effects models...

BACKGROUND: The rapidly evolving clinical landscape of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is driving innovative approaches for early diagnosis through genomic newborn bloodspot screening (NBS). However, the potential impact of these programs on families and healthcare systems remains unexplored. This study assessed the perceived benefits, harms, barriers, and enablers for DMD NBS amongst primary caregivers of children with DMD and healthcare professionals (HCPs). METHODS: This Australian multi-centre cross-sectional study used a mixed-methods convergent methodology...

PURPOSE: Patients with haematologic malignancies have less access to palliative care and are referred later than patients with solid tumours. We developed a survey to investigate this phenomenon, with the intention of analysing palliative care perceptions among health professionals who treat haematology patients and identifying barriers and facilitators to referrals to palliative care services. METHODS: This was a multicentre exploratory descriptive web-based survey...

Adolescents with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are at an increased risk of anxiety and depression compared to peers, but availability of mental health services in IBD clinics does not meet patients' needs, and use of primary care services for mental health screening and care is low. This study provides qualitative data regarding adolescent and caregiver perspectives on addressing mental health in IBD. Interviews were conducted with adolescents with IBD and caregivers of adolescents with IBD. Interview transcripts were coded and analyzed for prominent themes...

BACKGROUND: Benefit finding is gaining attention as a strong predictor of quality of life, but few studies have addressed the mechanisms of its development. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between illness perception and benefit finding in female thyroid cancer survivors and to further elucidate the mechanisms by which illness perception contributes to benefit finding through sense of coherence and self-disclosure. METHODS: A total of 280 female thyroid cancer survivors completed the questionnaire between January and August 2023...

OBJECTIVE: To explore the experience of drug withdrawal among pregnant women in jail. DESIGN: A qualitative interpretive descriptive approach. SETTING/PROBLEM: The care of incarcerated pregnant women constitutes a complex and significant public health problem. Many have substance use disorder (SUD) and cycle in and out of jails in their community, resulting in repeated experiences of drug withdrawal. Most jails do not provide medication-assisted therapy for management of withdrawal, a situation that violates standards of care set by leading health organizations...

BACKGROUND: Active case finding (ACF) refers to the systematic identification of people with tuberculosis in communities and amongst populations who do not present to health facilities, through approaches such as door-to-door screening or contact tracing. ACF may improve access to tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment for the poor and for people remote from diagnostic and treatment facilities. As a result, ACF may also reduce onward transmission. However, there is a need to understand how these programmes are experienced by communities in order to design appropriate services...

BACKGROUND: Frail elderly patients experience physiological function and reserve depletion, leading to imbalances in their internal environment, which increases the risk of coronary heart disease recurrence and malnutrition. However, the majority of these patients, who primarily have a low level of education and lack self-management skills, face difficulties actively dealing with obstacles during the transition period after their discharge from hospitalization. Therefore, it is necessary to understand and discuss in depth the nutrition management experience of discharged elderly patients with coronary heart disease and frailty (ages 65-80 years old) and to analyze the promoting and hindering factors that affect scientific diet behavior during the discharge transition period...

INTRODUCTION: The differences in the prevalence of obesity between the various regions of Spain, partly attributed to socioeconomic differences, may influence the approach to this disease. The aim of this study was to compare differences in attitudes, perception and barriers to the treatment of obesity between people with obesity (PwO) and health care professionals (HCPs), between the different regions of Spain. METHODS: Sub-analysis of the ACTION-IO Spain study, which included 1,500 PwO and 306 HCP belonging to regions with high prevalence of obesity (>16% n=9 regions, HPO group) and low prevalence of obesity (<16% n=8 regions, LPO group) (self-reported data), according to the 2017 National Health Survey of Spain...

BACKGROUND: Perception assessment plays an important role in fall risk awareness and fall prevention. Parkinson's disease patients with motor dysfunction are at high risk of falling. Currently, no instrument has been explicitly crafted to assess the risk perception of fall in PD patients. Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) represents an important steppingstone for many cardiac patients into a more heart-healthy lifestyle to prevent premature death and improve quality of life years. However, CR is underutilized worldwide. In order to support the development of targeted digital health interventions, this narrative review (I) provides understandings of factors influencing CR utilization from a behavioral perspective, (II) discusses the potential of digital health technologies (DHTs) to address barriers and reinforce facilitators to CR, and (III) outlines how DHTs could incorporate shared decision-making to support CR utilization...

BACKGROUND: Interplay between physical and mental health (MH) is widely recognised amongst patients with Musculoskeletal and co-existing MH conditions. Evidence suggests that psychological interventions improve outcomes and satisfaction in patients with physical conditions, however current healthcare models continue to separate physical and mental health care, as health services are fragmented.
