BACKGROUND: The rotator cable functions as a stress and/or load transfer structure. Some studies suggested that a disruption of the cable negatively affects shoulder function and tendon integrity in patients with rotator cuff tears, while others found no functional impairment regardless of rotator cable tear severity. Although anatomical studies have identified distinct regions within the rotator cuff muscles, the strain distribution within the articular sides of the rotator cuff tendons that results from the tension in each region remains unknown...

Patellar tendon ruptures can be debilitating injuries. When incomplete, partial tears can be managed nonsurgically with immobilization and progressive rehabilitation. Although complete ruptures remain a relatively uncommon injury, they portend a high level of morbidity. Ruptures typically result from an acute mechanical overload to the extensor mechanism, such as with forced quadriceps contraction and knee flexion. However, chronically degenerated tendons are also predisposed to failure from low-energy injuries...

BACKGROUND: Finger nerve injuries have a significant impact on hand function and can result in reduced sensation, pain and impaired coordination. The socioeconomic implications of these injuries include decreased workplace productivity, reduced earning potential, and financial burdens associated with long-term medical treatment and rehabilitation. However, there is a lack of comprehensive literature regarding the incidence, mechanisms, and associated injuries of finger nerve lesions. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients treated at our institution from January 2012 to July 2020...

BACKGROUND: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common condition resulting from compression of the median nerve at the wrist. First-line treatment typically involves conservative management, which commonly includes splinting and gliding exercises. Emerging evidence suggests the potential benefits of using virtual reality (VR) in rehabilitation. AIM: This study aimed to assess the effects of VR-mediated tendon and nerve gliding exercises on the conservative treatment of CTS, compared to video-assisted (sham virtual) and home-based gliding exercises...

This case report details the clinical evaluation, imaging findings, and surgical management of a 17-year-old female with a two-year history of persistent knee pain and recurrent patellar dislocations. Despite the absence of traumatic injury, the patient exhibited significant anatomical abnormalities, including a laterally dislocated patella, shallow trochlear groove, increased tibial tuberosity to trochlear groove (TT-TG) distance, and patella alta by calculating Insall-Salvati ratio. The Insall-Salvati ratio is a radiographic measurement used to assess the position of the patella within the knee joint...

It is characterized by weakness and pain in the muscles and tendons of the forearm responsible for the extension of your wrist and fingers. Trigger point dry needling is a technique reported to be beneficial in managing pain and dysfunction after LE diagnosis. LE is also commonly treated with conservative treatment, such as joint and soft tissue mobilization, self-care home programs, and anti-inflammatory use...

Simultaneous bilateral rupture of the quadricipital tendon is an extremely rare lesion. We report a case of this injury after low-energy trauma in a patient with type-II diabetes mellitus. Both knees were surgically approached in the same surgical procedure. Early rehabilitation is essential for the adequate functional recovery of the knee. The aim of the present report was to describe an atypical case of this type of injury after minimal trauma, as well as to detail the surgical technique used to treat it.

Extensor indicis proprius (EIP) opponensplasty is one of the commonly used techniques to restore thumb abduction and opposition in patients with thenar muscle dysfunction from various causes of median nerve palsy. However, its subcutaneous route around the distal ulna may not represent a straight line of pull, and part of the extensor hood sometimes has to be harvested along with the EIP tendon to gain adequate length to reach the insertion. The purpose of the study is to present the alternative method of EIP opponensplasty and report the clinical outcomes...

A 32 year-old climber sustained a grade IV frostbite injury to the right hand which required amputation at the neck of the proximal phalanges of all the long fingers. To increase range of motion and strength in the remaining metacarpophalangeal joints, tenodesis of the flexor digitalis superficialis and profundus tendons onto the proximal phalanges was performed. Several revisions for removal of bony spurs, dorsal skin advancement flaps and web space deepening were necessary. After 2 years, the patient achieved 10-0-100° metacarpophalangeal joint range of motion in extension-flexion and could do full body-weight pull-ups on 1 cm deep holds, lift 50 kg on a 2 cm deep hold (normal contralateral side, 40 kg), climb up to F7a routes and use a mechanical 4-finger functional prosthesis...

The differential diagnosis for heel pain is broad but primarily involves abnormalities of the Achilles tendon, calcaneus, and plantar fascia. Achilles tendon disorders include tendinosis, tendinitis, and partial or complete tears. Tendinosis refers to tendon degeneration, while tendinitis is inflammation after acute overload. Untreated tendinosis can progress to partial or complete tears. Tendon disorders can be accompanied by paratenonitis or inflammation of the loose sheath enclosing the tendon. Initial management involves rehabilitation and image-guided procedures...

In the human anatomy, the Achilles tendon (AT) is the strongest and largest tendon. Also, it ruptures the most often. Because it impairs the patient's ability to function adequately, a ruptured AT injury is a serious clinical issue. Reconstruction of the tendon through surgical intervention is the preferred approach to treatment in the case of tendon rupture. Establishing an effective post-operative rehabilitation regimen that mostly consists of functional physiotherapy measures is crucial in the management of AT rupture...
