In among of various methods, nerve tissue engineering (NTE) is one of the applicable methods to reconstruct damaged nerve tissues. Electrospinning technique and biomaterials are often considered to fabricate fibrous tissue engineered conduits which have great similarity to the extracellular matrix on fiber structure. Polymer blending is one of the most effective methods for production of new materials with outstanding features. In this research, conduit structures as main part of the peripheral nerve regeneration based on polymer blend nanocomposites PCL/Collagen/NBG (poly (ε-caprolactone)/Collagen/nano bioglass) were manufactured by electrospinning technique...

In women, the window of implantation is limited to a brief two- to three- day period characterized by optimal levels of circulating ovarian hormones and a receptive endometrium. Although the window of implantation is assumed to occur 8-10 days after ovulation in women, molecular markers of endometrial receptivity are necessary to determine optimal timing prior to embryo transfer. Previous studies showed that members of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family are expressed in the uterus necessary for female fertility; however, the role of BMP7 during implantation and in late gestation is not known...

Context: Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) is common and incapacitating. Aberrant menstrual endometrial repair may result in HMB. The TGFβ superfamily contributes to tissue repair, but its role in HMB is unknown. Objective: We hypothesised that TGFβ1 is important for endometrial repair and women with HMB have aberrant TGFβ1 activity at menses. Participants/Setting: Endometrial biopsies were collected from women and menstrual blood loss objectively measured (HMB >80ml/cycle, normal menstrual bleeding, NMB <80ml)...

Context: Repair of the endometrial surface at menstruation must be efficient to minimize blood loss and optimize reproductive function. The mechanism and regulation of endometrial repair remain undefined. Objective: To determine the presence/regulation of CXCL4 in the human endometrium, as a putative repair factor at menses. Patients/Setting: Endometrium was collected throughout the menstrual cycle from healthy women attending the gynecology department...

Microcystic, elongated, and fragmented (MELF) pattern invasion is a poor prognostic indicator in uterine endometrioid carcinoma, but its existence, biology, and prognostic value have not been described in ovarian endometrioid carcinoma. We evaluated cases of ovarian endometrioid carcinoma without synchronous uterine endometrioid carcinoma for MELF and other histologic features. To evaluate tumor biology, we assessed an immunohistochemical profile, including MLH1, PMS2, MSH2, MSH6, β-catenin, e-cadherin, CK19, and cyclin D1...

Endometrial polyps are benign pathologies originating as localized overgrowths of basal endometrium. Risk factors include endogenous and exogenous estrogen excess and tamoxifen (TAM) exposure. Our main objective was to investigate the role of an apoptosis-inhibiting protein, survivin, in endometrial polyps. We performed a cross-sectional, analytical study; our samples were obtained from the archives of Department of Pathology. Sixty samples were included, comprising 20 TAM polyps, 20 simple endometrial polyps, and 20 cases of simple endometrial hyperplasia without atypia not associated with TAM use...

CTCF is a haploinsufficient tumour suppressor gene with diverse normal functions in genome structure and gene regulation. However the mechanism by which CTCF haploinsufficiency contributes to cancer development is not well understood. CTCF is frequently mutated in endometrial cancer. Here we show that most CTCF mutations effectively result in CTCF haploinsufficiency through nonsense-mediated decay of mutant transcripts, or loss-of-function missense mutation. Conversely, we identified a recurrent CTCF mutation K365T, which alters a DNA binding residue, and acts as a gain-of-function mutation enhancing cell survival...

Recent studies suggest that elevated late follicular phase progesterone concentrations after ovarian stimulation for IVF may result in embryo-endometrial asynchrony, reducing the chance of successful implantation after fresh embryo transfer. It remains unclear to what extent elevated late follicular phase progesterone levels may occur in unstimulated cycles before frozen-thawed embryo transfer, or what affect they may have on outcomes. In this cohort study, 271 patients randomized to the modified natural cycle arm of a randomized controlled trial comparing two endometrial preparation regimens underwent late follicular phase progesterone and LH testing...

Tissue renin-angiotensin systems (RASs) are involved in tissue growth and development as they are important regulators of angiogenesis, cell proliferation and migration. The placental RAS is most highly expressed in early gestation, at a time when the oxygen tension within the conceptus is reduced, and plays a key role in placental growth and development. Similar to the placenta, tumour development relies on proliferation, angiogenesis and invasion in order to grow and metastasize. The RAS is known to be upregulated in a variety of solid tumours, including ovarian, endometrial, cervical, breast and prostate...

Mucosal barrier tissues, comprising a layer of tightly-bonded epithelial cells in intimate molecular communication with an underlying matrix-rich stroma containing fibroblasts and immune cells, are prominent targets for drugs against infection, chronic inflammation, and other disease processes. Although human in vitro models of such barriers are needed for mechanistic studies and drug development, differences in extracellular matrix (ECM) needs of epithelial and stromal cells hinder efforts to create such models...

The p27 rs34330 (-79C/T) polymorphism has been widely studied for human cancer susceptibility. The current findings, however, still remained controversial. Therefore, we performed the meta-analysis to provide a more accurate result. Eligible studies were identified from PubMed database up to June 2015. The association of p27 rs34330 polymorphism and cancer susceptibility was estimated with odds ratios and corresponding 95% confidence intervals. The meta-analysis was performed with Stata 12. A total of ten studies with 11,214 cases and more than 8,776 controls were included in the meta-analysis (including breast, lung, thyroid, endometrial, and hepatocellular cancer)...

Given the unique intra-peritoneal anatomic location of the adnexa, tubo-ovarian diseases can commonly spread into the peritoneal cavity. Peritoneal seeding may occur in a spectrum of adnexal conditions including infectious diseases, endometriosis, and benign or malignant primary or secondary ovarian tumors. CT is usually the imaging modality on which the concomitant involvement of the peritoneum and the ovary is depicted. The first diagnosis to be considered by the radiologist is generally peritoneal carcinomatosis from ovarian cancer but other conditions cited above have also to be borne in mind and may be suggested on the basis of careful assessment of CT findings or on further MR findings...

INTRODUCTION: The presence of endometrial tissue in airways, pleura and lung parenchyma is called thoracic endometriosis syndrome (TES). It is a rare pathology, and typically consists of catamenial pneumothorax, haemothorax, haemoptysis, and pulmonary nodules. We report a case of a 36-year-old woman with thoracic endometriosis causing catamenial haemothorax. CONCLUSIONS: The diagnosis of thoracic endometriosis is complicated and often delayed. TES should be suspected in a reproductive age woman with exacerbating symptoms during the menstruation...

Implantation failure is one of the major factors limiting success of in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. According to ESHRE 2009 data only 32% of fresh embryo transfers resulted in clinical pregnancies. There are many ideas to improve the treatment outcomes, endometrial injury being one of them. It has been suggested that local endometrial injury, performed either by pipelle biopsy or hysteroscopy, may increase clinical pregnancy rate. However, up to date literature is widely disparate on that subject. There is no conclusion with regard to optimal timing, the number and technique of the procedure...

PURPOSE: Activating FGFR2 mutations have been identified in ~10% of endometrioid endometrial cancers (ECs). We have previously reported that mutations in FGFR2 are associated with shorter disease free survival (DFS) in stage I/II EC patients. Here we sought to validate the prognostic importance of FGFR2 mutations in a large, multi-institutional patient cohort. METHODS: Tumors were collected as part of the GOG 210 clinical trial "Molecular Staging of Endometrial Cancer" where samples underwent rigorous pathological review and had more than three years of detailed clinical follow-up...
