This study compared the structural and cellular skeletal muscle factors underpinning adaptations in maximal strength, power, aerobic capacity, and lean body mass to a 12-week concurrent resistance and interval training program in men and women. Recreationally active women and men completed three training sessions per week consisting of high-intensity, low-volume resistance training followed by interval training performed using a variety upper and lower body exercises representative of military occupational tasks...

BACKGROUND: Moral distress is a far-reaching problem for nurses in different settings as it threatens their health. AIM: This study examined which situations lead to moral distress in home-care nursing, how and with which consequences home-care nurses experience moral distress, and how they cope with morally stressful situations and the resulting moral distress. RESEARCH DESIGN: A qualitative interview study with reflexive thematic analysis was used...

In the majority of occupational settings within China, the concentrations of benzene are observed to fall markedly below the demarcated detection thresholds. Employing traditional risk assessment models, the presence of exceptionally low airborne benzene exposure concentrations may infuse heightened degrees of uncertainty. Consequently, the necessity arises to investigate risk assessment methodologies more apt for the prevalent exposure environment among employees. In the present study, a pharmacokinetic model premised on urinary benzene metabolites (S-PMA and t, t-MA) was employed to ascertain a more precise daily airborne benzene exposure concentration per individual...

Interventional echocardiography is a rapidly growing field with the disciplines of cardiology and anesthesiology, with the rise of advanced transcatheter procedures making skilled imagers more important than ever. However, these procedures also involve frequent manipulation of the transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) probe, which means interventional echocardiographers (IE) are at risk of long-term occupational radiation exposure. Studies have shown that radiation exposure is linked to various health issues, including cancer, cataracts, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, endothelial dysfunction, vascular aging, and early atherosclerosis...

There is a need to support employees experiencing mental health and well-being problems in these jobs. This scoping review aims to describe group-level workplace interventions and their approaches to improving the mental health and well-being of employees in office-based, low autonomy, and high demands jobs. METHODS: Following PRISMA-ScR guidelines, a search was conducted across 4 databases (Medline, PsycINFO, CINAHL, ASSIA)...

Traffic enforcers are exposed to various occupational health and safety hazards, including noise pollution, which may lead to occupational hearing loss. This cross-sectional study aimed to estimate the prevalence of hearing loss and to assess the relationship between occupational noise exposure level (ONEL) and abnormalities in air conduction thresholds among Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) employees along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue, Philippines. Eight-hour ONELs were measured among 108 participants working with greater than 5 years of service...

The fear of progression questionnaire-short form and social support rating scale were conducted, and multiple linear regression was performed to identify risk factors of FCR. The score of the fear of progression questionnaire-short form in patients with GC surgery was 39...

If dark matter is ultralight, the number density of dark matter is very high, and the techniques of zero-temperature field theory are no longer valid. The dark matter number density modifies the vacuum, giving it a non-negligible particle occupation number. For fermionic dark matter, this occupation number can be no larger than one. However, in the case of bosons, the occupation number is unbounded. If there is a large occupation number, the Bose enhancement needs to be taken into consideration for any process involving particles which interact with the dark matter...

We unveil an exotic phenomenon arising from the intricate interplay between non-Hermiticity and many-body physics, namely, an occupation-dependent particle separation for hardcore bosons in a one-dimensional lattice driven by unidirectional non-Hermitian pumping. Taking hardcore bosons as an example, we find that a pair of particles occupying the same unit cell exhibit an opposite non-Hermitian pumping direction to that of unpaired ones occupying different unit cells. By turning on an intracell interaction, many-body eigenstates split in their real energies, forming separable clusters in the complex energy plane with either left-, right-, or bipolar-types of non-Hermitian skin effect (NHSE)...

PURPOSE: People are exposed to low-dose radiation in medical diagnosis, occupational, or life circumstances, but the effect of low-dose radiation on human health is still controversial. The biological effects of radiation below 100 mGy are still unproven. In this study, we observed the effects of low-dose radiation (100 mGy) on gene expression in human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAECs) and its effect on molecular signaling. BACKGROUND: The incidence of prostate cancer is increasing in older males globally. Age, ethnicity, and family history are identified as the well-known risk factors for prostate cancer, but few modifiable factors have been firmly established. The objective of this study was to identify and evaluate various factors modifying the risk of prostate cancer reported in meta-analyses of prospective observational studies and mendelian randomization (MR) analyses. METHODS AND FINDINGS: We searched PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science from the inception to January 10, 2022, updated on September 9, 2023, to identify meta-analyses and MR studies on prostate cancer...
