PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Normothermic machine perfusion of the liver (NMP-L) is a novel technology recently introduced into the practice of liver transplantation. This review recapitulates benefits of normothermic perfusion over conventional static cold storage and summarizes recent publications in this area. RECENT FINDINGS: The first clinical trials have demonstrated both safety and feasibility of NMP-L. They have shown that machine perfusion can entirely replace cold storage or be commenced following a period of cold ischaemia...

Molecularly imprinted membranes (MIMs) with selective removal properties for polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were prepared through the phase inversion technique. The MIMs were obtained from casting the viscous solutions of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs), polysulfone (PSf), and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) as the casting solvent. Different membranes were prepared at different concentration of MIPs and PSf. The resulting MIMs were characterized by atomic force microscope (AFM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)...

Internal model control (IMC) with optimal H2 minimization framework is proposed in this paper for design of proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers. The controller design is addressed for integrating and double integrating time delay processes with right half plane (RHP) zeros. Blaschke product is used to derive the optimal controller. There is a single adjustable closed loop tuning parameter for controller design. Systematic guidelines are provided for selection of this tuning parameter based on maximum sensitivity...

Modulating the dimensions and phases of transition metal dichalcogenides is of great interest to enhance their intrinsic properties or to create new physicochemical properties. Herein, we report an effective approach to synthesize 2H-WS2 quantum dots (QDs) via the dimension and phase engineering of 1T-WS2 nanosheets. The solvothermal reaction of chemically-exfoliated 1T-WS2 nanosheets in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) under an N2 atmosphere induced their chopping and phase transition at lower temperature to produce 2H-WS2 QDs with a high quantum yield (5...

Mu opioid receptor selective antagonists are highly desirable because of their utility as pharmacological probes for receptor characterization and functional studies. Furthermore, the mu opioid receptors act as an important target in drug abuse and addiction treatment. Previously, we reported NAP as a novel lead compound with high selectivity and affinity towards the mu opioid receptor. Based on NAP, we have synthesized its derivatives and further characterized their binding affinities and selectivity towards the receptor...

Mesoderm induction begins during gastrulation. Recent evidence from several vertebrate species indicates mesoderm induction continues after gastrulation in neuromesodermal progenitor cells (NMPs) within the posterior-most embryonic structure called the tailbud. It is unclear to what extent the molecular mechanisms of mesoderm induction are conserved between gastrula and post-gastrula stages of development. Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling is required for mesoderm induction during gastrulation through positive transcriptional regulation of the t-box transcription factor brachyury (ntla in zebrafish)...

Nitroxide Mediated Polymerization (NMP) was applied to prepare alternating copolymers using 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropyl acrylate (HFIPA) 1 and ((6-trimethylsilyl)-hex-5-yn-1-yl)vinyl ether (THVE) 2 as monomers. The alternating sequence of the resulting poly(HFIPA-alt-THVE) 3 was proved via tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) and further supported by 1H NMR spectroscopy. Alternating alkyne and activated ester moieties of copolymer 3 were further functionalized with organic azides and amines using sequential Cu-catalyzed azide-alkyne click (CuAAC) and amidation reactions, providing dually functionalized poly(acrylamide-alt-triazole) polymers 5...

This paper investigates the optimal modified tracking performance of multi-input multi-output (MIMO) networked control systems (NCSs) with packet dropouts and bandwidth constraints. Some explicit expressions are obtained by using co-prime factorization and the spectral decomposition technique. The obtained results show that the optimal modified tracking performance is related to the intrinsic properties of a given plant such as non-minimum phase (NMP) zeros, unstable poles, and their directions. Furthermore, the modified factor, packet dropouts probability and bandwidth also impact the optimal modified tracking performance of the NCSs...

In this work, magnetic nanoparticles of iron oxide (MNPs) were synthesized, and then the surface was recovered with an oleate double layer in order to investigate the ability of this material to adsorb nickel ions. First, the solution chemistry of oleate ions was investigated in order to determine the critical micellar concentration (CMC) value and the arrangements of ions above the CMC. Then, the synthesized oleate-modified MNP was characterized (TEM, DLS, XRD, FTIR, zeta potential, magnetometry). Finally, adsorption experiments were carried out as a function of pH and as a function of nickel concentration in 0...
