Spider angioma is a cutaneous nevus caused by a vascular abnormality, characterized by a central red area with radiating reddish, web-like extensions. It is typically associated with liver cirrhosis, hyperestrogenism, and alcohol consumption. In this case report, we present a unique instance of a patient who developed spider angioma at the injection site of the meningitis vaccine as a long-term adverse effect. The lesion was treated with electrocautery and diminished within one week of treatment. This case highlights the potential for spider angioma to develop as a long-term adverse effect of the meningitis vaccine, a possibility that has not been previously reported...

OBJECTIVES: To verify the anatomical basis, ideal puncture sites, and potential pitfalls of the distal radial artery (dRA) in the anatomical snuffbox region for distal radial access (dTRA). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Overall, 26 formalin-fixed upper limbs and computed tomography angiography (CTA) of the upper limbs of 168 consecutive patients were studied. Cadaveric dissection and dRA 3D reconstruction were used to evaluate the dRA route for dTRA. The puncture sites, dRA diameter, and angle of the dRA and tendons of the extensor pollicis brevis were also measured in the patients and cadavers...

Littoral cell angioma is an extremely rare splenic vascular tumor originating from the cells lining the splenic red pulp sinuses. Approximately 150 cases of littoral cell angioma have been reported since 1991. Its clinical manifestation is usually asymptomatic and is mostly diagnosed as an incidental finding through abdominal imaging. Herein, we present a case of littoral cell angioma in a 41-year-old woman with no previous comorbidities, which initially presented as a nonspecific splenic lesion diagnosed on imaging in the emergency room...

Cavernoma, or cerebral cavernous angioma, are hamartomatous lesions formed by sinusoidal vascular spaces without cerebral parenchyma in between. Cavernoma is a rare disorder that is diagnosed infrequently and incidentally, so it is called incidentaloma. However, cavernoma can present with seizures, headaches, and other focal neurological deficits, with seizures being the most frequent presentation. Cavernoma is angiographically concealed, and it's diagnosis is challenging. So, the cavernoma is diagnosed based on an MRI...

Cavernomas, also known as cavernous angiomas or cavernous malformations, are rare vascular lesions characterized by abnormal clusters of dilated capillaries without intervening brain tissue. While often asymptomatic, they can manifest with neurological symptoms such as headaches, seizures, and focal deficits. We present a case of a 45-year-old male who presented with persistent headaches and visual hallucinations. Thorough clinical assessment revealed intermittent throbbing headaches localized to the left occipital region, accompanied by brief episodes of vivid visual hallucinations...

Benign tumors of the eye and eyelid are common in children and adults, and rarely undergo malignant transformation. Their workup and management have evolved over the years with increasing advancements in surgical and laser therapies. This contribution focuses on describing the following benign eye and eyelid tumors and their diagnostic and treatment approaches: Congenital and acquired melanocytic nevi; Nevus of Ota (Hori nevus); Conjunctival papilloma; Seborrheic keratosis; Epidermoid cyst; Dermoid cyst; Milium; Xanthelasma; Hemangioma (cherry angioma and pyogenic granuloma); Neurofibroma; Neurilemmoma (schwannoma); and Fibroepithelial polyp...

Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is recognized as one of the most malignant skin tumors. Its rarity might explain the limited exploration of digital color studies in this area. The objective of this study was to delineate color alterations in MCCs compared to benign lesions resembling MCC, such as cherry angiomas and hemangiomas, along with other non-melanoma skin cancer lesions like basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), utilizing computer-aided digital color analysis. This was a retrospective study where clinical images of the color of the lesion and adjacent normal skin from 11 patients with primary MCC, 11 patients with cherry angiomas, 12 patients with hemangiomas, and 12 patients with BCC/SCC (totaling 46 patients) were analyzed using the RGB (red, green, and blue) and the CIE Lab color system...

Spider angiomas are dilated vascular channels in the skin. They have a central arteriole with surrounding vascular channels resembling legs of a spider, hence the name. They are frequently associated with liver cirrhosis, thyrotoxicosis, and pregnancy. We present the case of a 49-year-old gentleman who was referred to our liver clinic with complaints of jaundice and ascites of one-month duration. The patient was a chronic alcohol consumer, consuming country-made liquor, 80-100 grams/day for past 8-10 years...

Cavernous angiomas (CAs) are benign vascular malformations predominantly seen in the brain parenchyma and therefore referred to as intra-axial. Extra-axial dural-based cavernous angiomas, on the other hand, are rare vascular lesions found outside of the brain parenchyma. They occur in the middle fossa and may be easily misdiagnosed as meningiomas due to their extra-axial location. In addition, CAs that are located outside the middle fossa, such as in the convexity, have a better prognosis since they are more surgically accessible...

OBJECTIVE: A taxonomy for superficial cerebral cavernous malformations (CMs), those based cortically in gyral gray matter or subcortically in underlying white matter, is proposed to build on the comprehensive, systematic characterization of CMs in the entire brain. METHODS: Patients with superficial cerebral CMs were retrospectively analyzed from a consecutive surgical series between November 2008 and June 2021 at the authors' center. Superficial cerebral CMs were categorized into 4 subtypes based on their cortical location or, if subcortical, proximity to the nearest cerebral surface: convexity, medial, basal, and sylvian...

Cavernomas are histologically benign vascular malformations found at different sites in the brain. A rare site for such cavernomas, however, is the anterior optic pathway, comprising the optic nerve, chiasma, and optic tract-called optochiasmatic cavernomas (OCC). These lesions usually present with sudden onset or progressive vision loss, headache, and features mimicking pituitary apoplexy. In this paper, we describe a case of OCC operated at our center. We carry out an updated review of literature depicting cases of OCC, their clinical presentation, management, and postoperative complications...

BACKGROUND: Hereditary angioedema due to C1-inhibitor deficiency (HAE) is characterized by unpredictable recurrent episodes of swelling affecting the skin and the mucosa tissues, including gastrointestinal tract and/or oro-pharyngeal-laryngeal mucosae. Long-term prophylaxis (LTP) are used to prevent attacks. OBJECTIVE: Since C1-inhibitor (C1-INH) plays a pivotal role in several biological pathways, we investigated the possible association of comorbidities with C1-INH deficiency and the use of LTP with androgens (AA) or tranexamic acid (TXA)...

We report a technique for the noninvasive detection of skin cancer by imprint desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry imaging (DESI-MSI) using a transfer agent that is pressed against the tissue of interest. By noninvasively pressing a tape strip against human skin, metabolites, fatty acids, and lipids on the skin surface are transferred to the tape with little spatial distortion. Running DESI-MSI on the tape strip provides chemical images of the molecules on the skin surface, which are valuable for distinguishing cancer from healthy skin...

Patients with this syndrome have behavioral problems, a lack of social skills, and a lack of intellectual or academic skills.
