The snapping scapula, also called "washboard syndrome" is a controversial condition attributed to bony and soft tissue abnormalities. The syndrome was understimated for long time and often associated only with specific osseous abnormalities. The nodal point in the overview of the syndrome is that crepitus associated with symptomatic bursitis may be physiologic and is not uncommon a clinical presentation without any form of crepitus or craquement. In the current rewiew we analyzed the current concepts in the conservative and surgical management of snapping scapula syndrome, preceded by a description of scapular anatomy, pathophysiology of scapulothoracic articulation and clinical features of snapping scapula...

Falciparum malaria is a potentially deadly infectious disease, imposing a sure and fast biologic diagnosis, an early and efficient treatment. We report a case of severe imported Falciparium malaria who received artesunate, and we rewiew the different diagnostic methods of malaria as well as the clinico-biological characteristics of severe malaria. Recent data concerning malaria treatment are presented, as a pharmacokinetic study leaded during this case.

The extensive attention devoted to Noam Chomsky's review of Verbal Behavior by B.F. Skinner has resulted in a neglect of more than a dozen other rewiews of the work. These are surveyed and found to be positive and congenial in tone, with many of the reviewers advancing his/her own analysis of speech and language. The dominant criticism of the book was its disregard of central or implicit processes and its lack of experimental data. An examination of the receptive history of Verbal Behavior offers a more balanced historical account than those which rely excessively on Chomsky's commentary...

Epigenetics refers to changes in gene expression that do not entail a change in DNA sequence, namely phenotype changed, other than the genotype. These changes may remain through cell division for the remainder of the cell's life and may also last for multiple generations. It contains DNA methylation, histone modification, chromatin remodeling, gene imprinting and so on. Methylation is one of the chief epigenetic modify patterns in genomic DNA. DNA methylation via the interaction of methylation-CpG-binding proteins will affect the gene expression...

INTRODUCTION: Hydrocele is a fluid collection between tunica vaginalis and testis. Approximately 10% of testicular cancers occurs with a reactive hydrocele. CASE REPORT: A 64 year old male presented with a 30 year history of left hydrocele, progressively increasing. Physical examination demonstrated a left large hydrocele, transilluminable, not under pressure. Ultrasonography showed a "corpusculated hydrocele with vaginal hypertrophy jutting out near the head of the epididymis, perhaps caused by an inflammatory reaction [...

Phisiological activation of PI3K pathway is necessary for cells to regulate many different physiological processes such as transcription, protein synthesis, metabolic responses and membrane trafficking. Abnormal activation of the PI3K pathway leads to an increased activity resulting in tumor onset, maintenance, progression and invasion. Both genetic and epigenetic alterations could affect the normal pathway's activation. Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death from gynaecological malignancies in the western world...

Sleep apnea syndrome (SAS) is characterized by recurrent episodes of apnea during sleep. Mechanical upper airway obstruction is by far the most frequent form of SAS, and is named obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Besides giving rise to a reduced quality of life, OSA is associated with important cardiovascular morbidity and mortality if left untreated. OSA has also been associated with several ophthalmic manifestations. The purpose of this paper is to review the most important features of OSA, and to highlight the ophthalmic abnormalities recognized in these patients...

Based on the rewiew of the literature and own clinical observations, we presented examples of the most common pediatric onco-hematologic malignancies, that are manifested early by osteoarticular complaints. When these complaints predominate in the clinical presentation, they lead the diagnosis towards nonmalignant conditions, that are most common cause of such symptoms in children, like injuries, nonspecific reactive arthritis or inflammatory connective tissue diseases. However, in acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, the most prevalent childhood malignancy, bone and joint pains are present early in 40-60% of cases and they frequently anticipate any abnormalities in complete blood counts...

Leukotrienes comprise a family of products of the 5-lipoxigenase pathway of arachidonic acid metabolism. The cysteinil leukotrienes C4, D4 and E4 account for the biologic activity that was previously termed "slow-reacting substance of anaphylaxis". The proinflammatory effects of cysteinil leukotrienes (cys LTs) have been well described in asthma and rhinitis. The cys LTs induce broncospasm (1,000 times more potent than histamine), edema, mucus, hypersecretion, attract inflammatory cells like eosinophils, increase airway hyperreactivity, vascular leakage, and stimulate takikinins...

The radicular cysts are result of inflammatory process in the periapical tissues associated with necrotic and infected pulps. Humoral and cellular immune responses play a central role in the pathogenesis of these lesions. The most important role in the growth of these lesion have proinflammatore cytokine TNF-alpha, IL-1 and IL-6. Cytokine can be secreted by macrophages, monocytes and other cells of the immune system and can participate in skeletal homeostasis including osteoclastic formation, and bone resorption in maxillofacial region...

Intravenous Regional Anaesthesia (IVRA) has been first described in 1908 by the german surgeon August KG Bier. Although the technique was easy to perform and effective in giving surgical anaesthesia, the newer plexus block techniques largely replaced in a short time the "Bier block", because of time limitations of IVRA and safety considerations. Throughout the years modifications in procedure and new pharmacologic adjuvants have been shown to prevent toxic reactions to anaesthetics and mitigate limitations of IVRA...

We report herein two patients in whom bullets migrated into adjacent lateral ventricles in the brain and moved freely as a consequence of gravity. A rewiew ofthe literature suggests that spontaneous migration ofintracerebral bullets is being eased by cerebral softness, specific gravity of the bullet compared with brain tissue. ln patients undergoing the surgical removal of intracerebral or intraventricular bullets, an x-ray is recommended after final positioning.

Some patients underwent laparoscopy without optimal debulking surgery as initial treatment for advanced ovarian carcinoma. The amount of residual tumor following primary surgery was an important prognosis factor. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is a new therapeutic approach. Secondary, optimal surgery could be done in better conditions. The purpose was to access the ability of preoperative abdominopelvic CT to predict success of debulking surgery for ovarian carcinoma: less than 1 cm of residual tumor size after initial surgery...
