BACKGROUND: Different approaches have been described in published studies for carcinoma in situ (CIS) of the glans penis (erythroplasia of Queyrat), including topical chemotherapy or immunotherapy and laser or surgical excision. We evaluated the efficacy of topical imiquimod (IQ) followed by carbon dioxide laser ablation of the lesion. PATIENTS AND METHODS: From 2010 to 2015, 10 patients affected by CIS of the glans were treated by IQ, followed by carbon dioxide laser ablation...

Tuberculosis (TB) of penis is a very rare entity, even in developing countries. It may present as primary or secondary to Pulmonary TB (PTB). Penile TB mimics carcinoma penis, granulomatous penile ulcer, genital herpes simplex, granuloma inguinale and HIV infection. We, hereby, present the case of a 57-year-old male patient who presented to us with ulcerative growth over glans penis and was clinically diagnosed as carcinoma penis, however biopsy of the lesion showed evidence of tuberculosis which was supported by chest X-ray...

Voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) reduces risk of HIV acquisition in heterosexual men by approximately 60%. As some countries approach targets for proportions of adolescents and adults circumcised, some are considering early infant male circumcision (EIMC) as a means to achieve sustainability of VMMC for long term reduction of HIV incidence. Evaluations of specialized devices for EIMC are important to provide programs with information required to make informed decisions about how to design safe, effective EIMC programs...

Intralesional injection of collagenase Clostridium histolyticum (CCH) is a minimally invasive, Food and Drug Administration-approved, effective treatment for Peyronie's disease (PD). To assess the satisfaction of patients and their female sexual partners (FSP) following CCH therapy for PD, we conducted a retrospective review of the records of all patients treated with CCH for PD between 04/2014 and 03/2016. Collected variables included demographics, pre- and post-treatment sexual function, penile curvature, penile vascular findings, and treatment outcomes...

OBJECTIVE: To measure changes in penile length (PL) over time before and after radical prostatectomy (RP), and to investigate the underlying mechanisms for these changes. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The stretched PL (SPL) of 102 patients was measured before, 10 days after, and at 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 and 24 months after RP. The perpendicular distance from the distal end of the membranous urethra to the midline of the pelvic outlet was measured on mid-sagittal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) slice at three time points: preoperatively; 10 days after RP; and 12 months after RP...

BACKGROUND: Diphallia is a very uncommon malformation, and glans duplication (GD) is its rarest form. In this last group, patients normally present with esthetic/sexual complaints or obstructed voiding late in life after pubertal genital development. Associated malformations are uncommon and relatively mild in those cases. METHODS: After a case presented, we present herein an extensive review of GD, as the disease is rare, and there is very little about its treatment and there are diverse approaches to address the condition...

Canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL) is transmitted through vector, although venereal transmission has been suggested. This study aimed to compare the parasitic loads and inflammatory processes in genital tissues with ear skin from seropositive male dogs. Forty-five seropositive dogs were separated into groups containing symptomatic (n = 23) and asymptomatic (n = 22) animals. The control group (n = 2) healthy animals with seronegative and negative results in direct parasitological test. Samples of ear tip skin, prepuce, glans penis, testis, epididymis, and prostate were collected for evaluation of parasitic load and inflammatory infiltrate...

Sarcomatoid carcinomas are biphasic tumours, which occur at any site in the human body. It rarely affects the penis, with only 38 cases being reported in literature. It may be considered as a variant of squamous cell carcinoma or a dedifferentiated tumour. We report a 60-year old gentleman who presented with a swelling in the glans penis. He underwent a partial penectomy. Histopathology revealed sarcomatoid carcinoma of the penis, which was confirmed by immunohistochemistry. The rarity of this clinical entity makes its diagnosis difficult...

We report here a case of strangulation of the penis. A 69-year-old male visited our hospital suffering from a swollen penis and dysuria after installation of four metallic washers to the penis. He had mischievously put them on his penis four days before and subsequently was unable to remove them. We found erosion on the surface of the penis, reduction in blood flow by ultrasonography, and high C-reactive protein levels. Because we could not remove washers by blood removal from glans penis or ring cutter, we performed percutaneous cystostomy and then cut the washers with an electric grinder under general anesthesia...

Metastatic involvement of the penis is relatively infrequent. Metastasis of transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) is extremely rare. We report a case of bladder TCC with metastases to the penis that spares the urethra - a finding that, to the best of our knowledge, has not been previously reported. Of the documented mechanisms of metastatic transmission to the penis, we suspect the cause was retrograde lymphatic spread. In our case, a 59-year-old male presented to our clinic initially with phimosis and later developed gross hematuria...

AIM: The aim of the study was to compare the prevalence and distribution of both low-risk and high-risk HPV infection of the urethra and outer genital region in Croatian men. Thus far there is a consensus that sampling the coronal sulcus and glans of the penis is essential for adequately assessing HPV status in men but less agreement is noted for urethral sampling. METHODS: External genital brushing and urethral swabs were taken from 1,342 men during a 12-year period and tested with the hc2 HPV DNA Test using Hybrid Capture 2 technology...

BACKGROUND: Circumcision has been found to be an effective strategy for lowering the transmission of HIV in Africa. The Luke Commission, a mobile hospital outreach program, has used this information to decrease the rate of HIV in Swaziland by performing voluntary male medical circumcisions throughout the country. During many of these circumcisions, genital medical conditions and penile abnormalities are simultaneously discovered and corrected. PURPOSE: The goal of our study was to evaluate the prevalence of penile abnormalities discovered and treated during voluntary male medical circumcisions performed by The Luke Commission (TLC) throughout rural Swaziland...

INTRODUCTION: A cornerstone of treating gender dysphoria for transgender women is gender reassignment surgery (GRS) encompassing vaginoplasty and clitoroplasty. The neoclitoris is harvested as a flap with a neurovascular pedicle from the proximal dorsal part of the glans penis. Few long-term follow-ups exist on postoperative sensation and patient-reported sexual functionality of the neoclitoris. AIM: To examine the sensitivity of the neoclitoris and its relation to orgasm and sexual function at least 1 year after GRS...

BACKGROUND/AIM: Nowadays surgical intervention is possible in smaller phalluses and younger children with hypospadias disease. Different hormone treatments with different doses, modalities, indications, and treatment times come along with some disputes. The aim of this study is to evaluate the management approaches in hypospadias surgery of surgeons in regards to hormone preparations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Questionnaires were sent via e-mail to 110 actively working pediatric surgeons and urologists...

Verruciform xanthoma is a rare and benign condition predominantly affecting the oral cavity, but also skin and female anogenital mucosa. It can be flat, papular-warty or crateriform-cystic. Furthermore it can simulate HPV viral lesion such as condyloma and malignant neoplasia such as verrucous squamous cell carcinoma. An accurate diagnosis is important to avoid overtreatment, considering it is a benign lesion that does not require any radical treatment. We present an extremely rare case of a 64 year-old man with a small, slighty raised, gray reddish-dotted lesion on the left portion of the ventral side of his glans...

A 60-year-old male Dialysis patient presented with altered mental status and Hypertensive Urgency. He had a significant lesion noted on his glans penis. He was treated for infection and hypertension with expectant management, without significant improvement in his mental acuity. Laboratory and radiologic workup were unrevealing for the etiology. Upon detailed review it was noted he had recently been given Acyclovir for a presumed Herpes Simplex Virus infection. He had been prescribed what is considered correct dosing for an ESRD patient...

BACKGROUND: In parts of Africa, routine circumcision is practised and sometimes even on children with hypospadias. The lack of preputial foreskin renders urethroplasty more difficult and often requires to use of a mucosal graft as described by Bracka. OBJECTIVE: The authors describe their experience of hypospadias repair using Bracka's technique. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Over a period of 5 years, 100 cases of proximal hypospadias were operated in our institution...

PURPOSE: The primary aim of this report was to compare urethroplasty complications for primary distal and proximal repairs with those after 1, 2, 3, and 4 or more re-operations. METHODS: Prospectively collected data on consecutive hypospadias repairs (tubularized incised plate (TIP), inlay, two-stage graft) from 2000 to 2015 were reviewed. Isolated fistula closures were excluded. Extracted information included patient age, meatal location, repair type, primary vs...
