The white-cheeked macaque Macaca leucogenys is a recently described species that was only diagnosed based on photos, without any specimen measurements or molecular genetic diagnosis. Using extracted DNA from four newly collected skin specimens, we studied the genetic diversity and phylogenetic position of M. leucogenys using multilocus sequence data, including mitochondrial and Y chromosomal genes. Skin measurements of four individuals showed that the white-cheeked macaque is robust and larger than M. assamensis but is similar in body size to M...

The changes in electronic structure of LiMn0.6Fe0.4PO4 nanowire during the discharge process were investigated by using ex situ soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). The Fe L-edge XAS attributed the potential plateau at 3.45 V vs. Li/Li+ of the discharge curve to a reduction of Fe3+ to Fe2+. The Mn L-edge XAS spectra exhibited the Mn2+ multiplet structure throughout the discharge process, while the crystal-field splitting was slightly enhanced in going to the fully-discharged state. The configuration-interaction full-multiplet calculation for the XAS spectra revealed that the charge-transfer effect from the O 2p to Mn 3d orbitals should be considerably small unlike that from the O 2p to Fe 3d orbitals...

INTRODUCTION: Repair of severe primary and revision hypospadias is a demanding procedure. Debate continues as to whether a two-stage approach or single-stage technique is superior. The two-stage procedure with a free graft involves penile straightening followed by application of a graft for the neourethral plate at stage one; with tubularization at stage two after graft maturation. OBJECTIVE: To report the outcomes of a single surgeon's experience with the two-stage repair using a free graft for both severe primary and revision hypospadias with long-term follow-up...

BACKGROUND: Penile cancer is a rare malignancy that is confined to the glans in up to four out of five cases. Although descriptions of glansectomy exist, there are no contemporary video explanations or large published single centre series. OBJECTIVE: To show the efficacy and safety of glansectomy and split-thickness skin graft (STSG) reconstruction. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Data were collected retrospectively for patients identified from surgical theatre diaries between February 2005 and January 2016...

Penile-preserving surgery offers a revolutionary alternative to more traditional radical surgery. It offers better sexual, functional, and psychological results and evidence suggests it achieves this without sacrificing oncological outcomes. We examined the evolving nature of such surgeries, addressing controversies such as safe margins and survival outcomes and discussing more conventional techniques, including laser. At our UK center, we treat a high volume of penile cancer and here, based on such experience, we describe our glans resurfacing, glansectomy, and partial penectomy techniques; their application by disease stage; and the limitations of such surgeries...

INTRODUCTION: We prospectively investigated the relationship between newborn male circumcision (NMC) and second to fourth digit ratio with penile length. METHODS: As participants for our study, we identified already circumcised young patients who visited our hospital for urological treatment. The age at which the circumcision had been done was assessed. The patients' height and weight were measured. Second to fourth digit ratio was calculated by measuring the second and fourth digit lengths...

Premature ejaculation (PE) is considered the most common male sexual disorder, affecting up to 75% of men at some point in their lives. While medical management is the mainstay of therapy, surgical options such as dorsal nerve neurectomy (DNN), hyaluronic acid (HA) gel glans penis augmentation, and circumcision have been studied as alternative forms of treatment. Preliminary studies have suggested that DNN and HA gel glans penis augmentation are relatively safe and effective, but due to a lack of large, multicenter, randomized-control trials with long-term follow-up, the International Society of Sexual Medicine (ISSM) has been unable to endorse DNN or HA gel glans penis augmentation as options in the treatment of PE...

Management of premature ejaculation (PE) has evolved tremandoulsy over the last 20 years. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants and local anesthetics are the most and best studied treatments. This evidence has led to the establishment of an evidence-based definition of PE and the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of PE. The current treatment of choice for PE according to the ISSM guidelines is a centrally acting SSRI or peripherally acting topical anesthetics...

PURPOSE: In this prospective study, we studied the role of ultrasonography (US) in the diagnosis and management of penile trauma. METHODS: Between 2007 and 2014, 14 patients (mean age 39 years) with suspected penile fracture underwent US examinations. Almost all patients had a history of injury during sexual intercourse or manipulation of the penis. US examinations were performed in transversal and longitudinal planes starting at the level of the glans and moving down to the base of the penis...

The penile circular fasciocutaneous flap (FCF) is employed in the successful single stage reconstruction of long segment complex anterior urethral strictures especially when buccal mucosa is unavailable due to various reasons. A 65-year-old gentleman, chronic smoker and tobacco chewer, hypertensive on treatment, presented with obstructive lower urinary tract symptoms for 8 months. He had no prior urethral catheterization. On examination, he had circumcised penis, with stenosis of the external urethral meatus...

We report a rare case of a traumatic dislocation of the penis. The patient was a 39-year-old man who was ambulanced to our hospital because of a motorbike accident. He was diagnosed to have a pelvic fracture. He was admitted to our department because of his urinary retention and lower abdominal pain. Only the penile skin was left as the genital organ, and neither the penis nor the glans penis was palpable. As the computed tomography scan of the abdomen revealed the dislocation of the penis under the skin in the foreside of the pubic bone, urinary retention due to the traumatic dislocation of the penis was diagnosed, and a percutaneous cystostomy was performed...

BACKGROUND: Several techniques have been used to repair mid-penile hypospadias; however, high failure rates and major complications have been reported. In this study, we describe a novel technique using a well-vascularized flap of the inner and outer preputial skin. METHODS: A total of 110 male children with hypospadias underwent repair by our technique between 2008 and 2015. The inclusion criteria were children with mid-penile or slightly more proximal hypospadias, with or without ventral chordae, and an intact prepuce of the cobra eyes variety...

Male genital satisfaction is an important aspect of psychosocial and sexual health. The Index of Male Genital Image (IMGI) is a new scale that measures perceptions of male genitalia. We aim to characterize genital satisfaction using the IMGI and correlate dissatisfaction with sexual activity. We conducted a nationally representative survey of non-institutionalized adults aged 18-65 years residing in the U.S. In total, 4198 men completed the survey and 3996 (95.2 %) completed the IMGI. Men reported highest satisfaction with the shape of their glans (64 %), lowest satisfaction with the length of their flaccid penis size (27 %), and neutrality with the scent of their genitals (44 %)...

INTRODUCTION: The surgical management of girls with masculinized genitalia is gradually changing towards a more conservative approach. Reports on loss of clitoral sensitivity and related impairment of sexual function in women after feminizing genital surgery in childhood have been pivotal in this evolution. An exposed clitoral glans is occasionally seen at follow-up, and while patients may complain of aesthetics, no clitoral discomfort secondary to glans exposure has been reported. A technique has been developed to reconstruct the clitoral hood and the present study reports the preliminary results...

CASE: The patient was a 3-year-old with hypospadias. Urethroplasty was performed as a two-stage procedure, but a severe urethral stricture occurred due to a postoperative infection and the patient was virtually in urinary retention. An emergency cystostomy was performed, and thereafter urethral reconstruction was performed. A large urethral diverticulum had formed in the scrotum. The inner wall of the diverticulum was found to be completely epithelialized and well vascularized. Therefore, it was elevated as a skin flap and a neourethra was reconstructed up to the glans region using the diverticular tissue...

Median raphe cysts (MRC) are uncommon, benign congenital lesions that may present anywhere in the midline between the urinary meatus and the anus, with the shaft of the penis and the glans penis being the most common sites. We report a 52-year-old man with median raphe cyst unusually located in perianal region and treated by surgical excision.

Pathologists who find ectopic glands on the glans and/or on the prepuce, often describe them as Tyson's glands. In this regard, the term Tyson's glands can be replaced by two different descriptive expressions: papillomatosis corona penis and ectopic sebaceous glands. A 15-year old Caucasian male patient presented to our Institute with multiple and asymptomatic circular skin colored-to-yellowish papules at the level of the foreskin, also affecting the shaft of the penis, where they assumed a linear feature. The histological examination revealed hyperplastic and dilated sebaceous glands, while in some areas these glands showed also a direct attachment with the epidermis...

The World Health Organization reports that more than 200 million women currently alive have been subjected to female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) worldwide, and three million girls continue to be at risk each year. FGM/C today is women's business. The vulva is formed by the labia majora and the vestibule, with its erectile apparatus. These structures are located under the urogenital diaphragm, behind the pubic symphysis in the anterior perineal region. The clitoris is entirely an external genital organ: the glans and body covered by the prepuce are visible/free while the roots are hidden...
