Smooth muscle tumors, known as leiomyomas, are benign and can grow anywhere in the body, but the uterine myometrium is the most common site. Vulvar leiomyomas are uncommon and rare. We report a case of a 25-year-old female P (para) 1 L (live) 1 with a previous normal vaginal delivery, who presented two painless swelling of in vulva for one year. The urethral meatus deviated to the left side. After surgical excision, a histopathological examination was performed that confirmed leiomyoma. The patient was discharged after an uneventful postoperative period...

The history of Danish neuroscience starts with an account of impressive contributions made at the 17th century. Thomas Bartholin was the first Danish neuroscientist, and his disciple Nicolaus Steno became internationally one of the most prominent neuroscientists in this period. From the start, Danish neuroscience was linked to clinical disciplines. This continued in the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries with new initiatives linking basic neuroscience to clinical neurology and psychiatry in the same scientific environment...

Vulval tumours are rare, representing merely 4% of all gynaecological neoplasms. 98% of vulvar lesions are benign, and only 2% are malignant. Of all vulvar malignancies, while squamous cell carcinoma is the most common malignancy, leiomyosarcomas of the vulva are extremely rare. Usually these tumours have nonspecific clinical manifestations, often leading to misdiagnoses of Bartholin cysts or abscesses. We describe a case of a 47-year-old woman who presented with a nonspecific painless swelling in the left vulva for 2 months which was diagnosed as leiomyosarcoma of the vulva on biopsy as well as resection...

BACKGROUND Leiomyosarcomas of the vulva (VLMS) are very rare among gynecological malignancies, with a lack of knowledge on clinical presentation, prognosis, and therapeutic management. CASE REPORT The database of the German Clinical Center of Competence for Genital Sarcomas and Mixed Tumors in Greifswald (DKSM) was reviewed between the years 2010 and 2020. A total of 8 cases of VLMS were retrieved and analyzed retrospectively. One exemplary case of VLMS was outlined in detail: A 45-year-old premenopausal woman presented with increasing vulvar swelling and discomfort...

To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of synchronous ovarian and vulva (Bartholin gland) cancer. A postmenopausal woman presented with a complex multiloculated left adnexal mass and 2-cm right Bartholin gland mass. CA 125 was 59 IU/mL. Computed tomography of chest, abdomen, and pelvis showed a very large (32 × 13.5 × 22.5 cm) complex mass arising from the pelvis and extending to the level of the T12/L1 disk space. A right Bartholin mass with suspicious right inguinal nodes was seen...

BACKGROUND: Sneathia amnii is a conditional pathogen of the female genital tract that is involved in bacterial vaginosis and poor reproductive and perinatal outcomes. Few studies have reported subcutaneous cysts following invasive infection caused by S amnii. CASE PRESENTATION: Here we report the case of a 27-year-old woman who presented with Bartholin's gland cyst due to S amnii infection, and was successfully treated with surgical neostomy and antibiotic agents...

BACKGROUND: Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) in Bartholin's gland is an uncommon malignant tumor. These tumors have a vague clinical feature, so they are diagnosed late and discovered at a high-level stage. Our case presented Three Recurrences and Three times Misdiagnosis of Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (ACC). CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of adenoid cystic carcinoma arising in Bartholin's gland of a 64-year-old female patient that appeared after three previous vulvar tumors were excised...

Leiomyoma, otherwise known as a fibroid, is commonly encountered in the uterus. Vaginal leiomyomas are extremely rare with a relative paucity of cases reported in the literature. Due to the rarity of the disease and complexity of the vaginal anatomy, definitive diagnosis and treatment are challenging. The diagnosis is often only made postoperatively after resection of the mass. They usually arise from the anterior vaginal wall and women may present with dyspareunia, lower abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding or dysuria...

RATIONALE: Leiomyoma of the vulva is a rare, benign mass that is present on the vulva. Most commonly, they are described as painless, well-circumscribed, solitary tumors that are misdiagnosed as Bartholin cysts before surgery. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 45-year-old woman presented with a case of vulvar leiomyoma misdiagnosed as Bartholin cyst preoperatively. A solitary swelling mass measuring 3 cm × 2 cm was found in the left labia majora at the Bartholin gland site on physical examination...

BACKGROUND: Vulvar leiomyoma is a rare soft tissue tumor, with only around 300 cases described in the literature. Owing to its low incidence of just 0.03% of all gynecological tumors, it often poses a great diagnostic challenge, especially in teenagers. We report this rare occurrence of vulvar leiomyoma in a teenage girl who was primarily left untreated due to cultural taboos and fear of loss of virginity. The main aim in presenting such rare case studies is to raise awareness and expand the diagnostic horizon of the surgeon for appropriate management...

BACKGROUND: Bartholin's gland carcinoma (BGC) accounts for approximately 5% of all vulval malignancies-making it an extremely rare malignancy of the female genital tract. It commonly manifests as a painless unilateral mass, near the introitus. BGC more commonly occurs in post-menopausal women. Unfortunately, over half of cases are associated with a missed or delayed diagnosis as it is often mistaken for a Bartholin's gland cyst or abscess. These tumours have a predilection for local and perineural invasion...

Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the Bartholin's gland (ACCBG) is a rare, slowly but aggressive malignancy. We reported the case of a 31-year-old woman who was treated by local excision and then hemi-vulvectomy, with positive margins and perineural invasion. Radiation therapy (RT) was then performed delivering 45Gy in 25 fractions in bilateral inguinal lymph nodes and 64.8Gy in 36 fractions on the vulvar area. After 30 months, there was no local relapse (LR) but the patient presented a histologically documented lung recurrence...

Under 10% of gynaecological cancers are diagnosed in the vulva and vagina, mostly squamous cell carcinomas. Melanoma, Paget disease, basal cell carcinomas, and other cancers can present with vulval/vaginal symptoms. The pathology information system of a tertiary referral center for vulvo-vaginal cancers was searched for cancers of the vulva and vagina from 1996 to 2019. Squamous carcinomas were excluded, and the remaining entities were catalogued. A total of 221 nonsquamous cancers were found, including 135 vaginal and 86 vulval cases...

Leiomyomas are uncommon vulvar neoplasms often misdiagnosed as other Bartholin gland pathology. This case report describes a case of accelerating growth of a vulvar mass, initially diagnosed as Bartholin cyst. Surgical excision led to a histopathologic diagnosis of vulvar leiomyoma. The postoperative recovery was complicated by secondary hematoma and dehiscence of the surgical site. There was no recurrence at 2 years follow-up.

Deep angiomyxoma is a rare, infiltrative, hormone-dependent, benign-mesenchymal neoplasm that occurs in the deep soft tissues of the perineal regions. In total, 33% females with newly diagnosed deep angiomyxoma will typically relapse within 5 years after the standard treatment of radical resection. Postoperative hormone therapy is frequently administered to prevent recurrence, but the role of prophylactic oophorectomy in premenopausal women remain to be fully elucidated. In the present report, a 42-year-old Japanese woman was referred for a refractory Bartholin's cyst that is 14 cm in diameter...

A cyst is a blind pouch of tissue, which may be containing air, fluid, pus or any other substance. Vaginal wall cysts are located on or under the vaginal wall lining, are usually asymptomatic and may present as a small lump felt in the vagina or protruding from the vagina. These cysts can be of varying sizes, ranging from the size of a pea to that of an orange. These may get infected and present with inflammatory signs and symptoms. We report here a case of a 38-year-old female who presented with complaints of something coming out of her vagina, initially mistaken to be uterovaginal prolapse, which, on detailed clinical examination, was diagnosed to be a posterior vaginal wall cyst...

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic human disease with persistent destruction of lung parenchyma. A pivotal role in the initiation and pathogenesis of IPF is played by transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 signaling. As shown herein, TGF-β1 signaling down-regulates not only peroxisome biogenesis but also the metabolism of these organelles in human IPF fibroblasts. In accordance with the in vitro cell culture observations in human fibroblasts and human lung tissue, peroxisomal biogenesis and metabolic proteins were significantly down-regulated in the lung of 1-month-old transgenic mice expressing a constitutively active TGF-β type I receptor (ALK5)...
