OBJECTIVES: Studies identifying nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP) as the predominant histopathology in systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD) have primarily utilised surgical lung biopsies in early disease. These case series may only reflect the histopathology of early disease and differ from the histopathology of advanced disease in those with respiratory failure. METHODS: Patients receiving a lung transplant for a diagnosis of SSc at a single centre from 2000-2021 were included for retrospective analysis...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: During the COVID-19 pandemic, Serbia has faced devastating losses related to increased mortality rates among men and women of all ages. With 14 registered cases of maternal death in 2021, it became obvious that pregnant women are faced with a serious threat that jeopardises their life as well as the life of their unborn child. Studying the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on maternal outcomes is vivifying and stimulating for many professionals and decision-makers, and knowing the contextual characteristics can facilitate the application of literature findings in practice...

OBJECTIVES: To define the clinical and prognostic features associated with anti-Ro52 autoantibodies in patients with connective tissue diseases with interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD). METHODS: A total of 238 patients with CTD-ILD were included in this single-centre retrospective cohort study. Patients with positive anti-Ro52 antibodies were selected as the study group, and those with negative anti-Ro52 antibodies were included in the control group. Clinical and follow-up data were analysed...

BackgroundInternational organisations are calling for One Health approaches to tackle antimicrobial resistance. In France, getting an overview of the current surveillance system and its level of integration is difficult due to the diversity of surveillance programmes.AimThis study aimed to map and describe all French surveillance programmes for antibiotic resistance (ABR), antibiotic use (ABU) and antibiotic residues, in humans, animals, food and the environment, in 2021. Another objective was to identify integration points, gaps and overlaps in the system...

This study was conducted to examine times to onset, incidence rates, and outcomes of nivolumab-induced lung adverse events (AEs), using the Japanese Adverse Drug Event Report database. We analysed data for the period between April 2004 and March 2021. Data on lung AEs were extracted, and relative risks of AEs were estimated using the reporting odds ratio. We analysed 5,273,115 reports and found 18,721 reports of nivolumab-related AEs, including 3084 lung AEs. Signals were detected for nine lung AEs: interstitial lung disease; pneumonitis; lung disorder; organising pneumonia; pleural effusion; pneumonia aspiration; pneumonia bacterial; radiation pneumonitis; and infectious pleural effusion...

Organising pneumonia after a mild COVID-19 infection has been increasingly reported and poses a diagnostic challenge to physicians especially in immunocompromised patients. We report a patient with a background of lymphoma in remission on rituximab who presented with prolonged and persistent fever after recovering from a mild COVID-19 infection. The initial workup showed bilateral lower zone lung consolidation; however, the infective and autoimmune workup were unremarkable. Subsequently, a bronchoscopy with transbronchial lung biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of organising pneumonia...

A woman in her late 40s presented with multiple abnormal shadows on high-resolution CT (HRCT), was treated with abemaciclib for recurrent right breast cancer post-surgery and chemoradiation therapy. During the 10-month chemotherapy, HRCT revealed a recurrent pattern of a partly appearing and disappearing organising pneumonia pattern without clinical symptoms. Bronchoalveolar lavage analysis revealed lymphocytosis, while transbronchial lung biopsy revealed alveolitis with epithelial cell injury. Based on the diagnosis of drug-induced pneumonitis due to abemaciclib, the discontinuation of abemaciclib and administration of prednisolone were effective...

BACKGROUND: Patients with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) positive for internal tandem duplication (ITD) mutations of FLT3 have poor outcomes. Quizartinib, an oral, highly potent, selective, type 2 FLT3 inhibitor, plus chemotherapy showed antitumour activity with an acceptable safety profile in patients with FLT3-ITD-positive newly diagnosed AML. The aim of the study was to compare the effect of quizartinib versus placebo on overall survival in patients with FLT3-ITD-positive newly diagnosed AML aged 18-75 years...

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease characterised by relapsing and remitting mucosal inflammation of the colon. Despite primarily affecting the gastrointestinal tract, UC has various extraintestinal manifestations that often affect other organs and systems. Although pulmonary involvement is uncommon, organising pneumonia (OP), which affects the lung parenchyma, is one of the potential extraintestinal manifestations of UC. We report a case of OP in a 35-year-old male with a longstanding history of UC, well-medicated with sulfasalazine (SSZ)...

<b/>Immunotherapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) is administered in different cancer types and can lead to a wide range of immune-related adverse events including toxicity in vital organs such as the lungs, the kidneys, and the heart. The main hypothesis suggests an overactivation of the immune cells in the different organs. Whereas immune-related cardiotoxicity is very rare but life threatening, ICI-induced acute kidney injury and pneumonitis are more frequent but in general less severe. Renal toxicity corresponds in more than 90% to an acute tubulo-interstitial nephritis...

Pneumonia is the number one cause of disease and deaths in children under five years old, outside the neonatal period, with the greatest number of cases reported from resource-limited settings. The etiology is variable, with not much information on the local etiology drug resistance profile in many countries. Recent studies suggest an increasing contribution from respiratory viruses, also in children with severe pneumonia, with an increased relative contribution in settings that have good vaccine coverage against common bacterial pathogens...

Most patients with OP have favourable outcomes, but some develop respiratory insufficiency, experience recurrence or die. Organizing pneumonia is a nonspecific pathologic pattern of response to lung damage. It can be idiopathic, or it can occur secondary to various medical processes, most commonly infections, connective tissue disease, and pharmacological toxicity. Although there is no strict definition of the pattern of organising pneumonia as in other idiopathic interstitial pneumonias, the characteristic pattern of this disease could be considered to include patchy consolidations and ground-glass opacities in the peribronchial and subpleural areas of both lungs...
