A simple and reliable multiresidue method for quantitative determination of veterinary drugs in bovine muscle and milk using liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-QTOF-MS) was developed. Critical MS parameters such as capillary voltage, cone voltage, collision energy, desolvation gas temperature, and extraction mass window were carefully optimised to obtain the best possible sensitivity. Analytical samples were prepared using extraction with acetonitrile and hexane in the presence of anhydrous sodium sulphate and acetic acid, followed by ODS cartridge clean-up...

Hyponatremia presents with various central nervous system symptoms during its course and treatment. We treated a patient who presented with a prolonged consciousness disorder and was suspected of having complications of neuroleptic malignant syndrome and osmotic demyelination syndrome (ODS) during the treatment for his hyponatremia, which was caused by syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone (SIADH). The patient was a 30-year-old Japanese man who had been under treatment for schizophrenia...

Recently, we have developed ultralow-temperature high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) at -196°C using liquid nitrogen-based mobile phases. In this study, a retention model for ultralow-temperature HPLC, in which adsorption exchange and "pseudo partition" modes are combined, is proposed to describe the effect of the mobile phase composition on the retention of analytes. The experimental results agreed well with the equation of the proposed model. It was revealed that, in the low and high additive concentration regions, adsorption exchange and pseudo partition retention, respectively, dominate the analyte retention...

BACKGROUND: Root of Panax ginseng C. A. Mey (Renseng in Chinese) is a famous Traditional Chinese Medicine. Ginsenosides are the major bioactive components. However, the shortage and high cost of some ginsenoside reference standards make it is difficult for quality control of P. ginseng. OBJECTIVE: A method, single standard for determination of multicomponents (SSDMC), was developed for the simultaneous determination of nine ginsenosides in P. ginseng (ginsenoside Rg1, Re, Rf, Rg2, Rb1, Rc, Rb2, Rb3, Rd)...

PURPOSE: Currently, isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutation and 1p/19q co-deletion are proven diagnostic biomarkers for both grade II and III oligodendrogliomas (ODs). Non-invasive diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI), and dynamic susceptibility contrast perfusion-weighted imaging (DSC-PWI) are widely used to provide physiological information (cellularity, hemorrhage, calcifications, and angiogenesis) of neoplastic histology and tumor grade. However, it is unclear whether DWI, SWI, and DSC-PWI are able to stratify grades of IDH-mutant and 1p/19q co-deleted ODs...

In addition to urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction, several other impairments of sexual function potentially occurring after radical prostatectomy (RP) have been described; as a whole, these less frequently assessed disorders are referred to as neglected side effects. In particular, orgasmic dysfunctions (ODs) have been reported in a non-negligible number of cases, with detrimental impacts on patients' overall sexual life. This review aimed to comprehensively discuss the prevalence and physiopathology of post-RP ODs, as well as potential treatment options...

Oxidative desulfurization is considered to be one of the most promising methods for producing ultra-low sulfur fuels because it can effectively remove the refractory sulfur-containing aromatic compounds under mild conditions. In this work, we reported that the oxidative desulfurization (ODS) performance over UiO-66(Zr) can be greatly enhanced by Ti ion exchange. This strategy is not only efficient for UiO-66(Zr) with crystal defect but also for UiO-66(Zr) with high crystallinity. Especially, the ODS performance of UiO-66(Zr) with high crystallinity can be improved above 11-fold in the ODS reaction of dibenzothiophene, which should be mainly attributed to the introduction of active Ti sites...

The osmotic demyelination syndrome (ODS) is a serious neurologic condition that occurs in the setting of rapid correction of hyponatremia. It presents with protean manifestations, from encephalopathy to the "locked-in" syndrome. ODS can complicate liver transplantation (LT), and its incidence may increase with the inclusion of serum sodium as a factor in the Model for End-Stage Liver Disease score. A comprehensive understanding of risk factors for the development of ODS in the setting of LT, along with recommendations to mitigate the risk of ODS, are necessary...

OBJECTIVES: The quassinoid brusatol, which can be isolated from Brucea javanica (L.) Merr., becomes popularly studied because of its anti-tumor activity. In order to further investigate brusatol and extend its applications, a sensitive analytical method for determination of brusatol in biological samples is essential. However, few methods had been reported until now. In this study, a highly sensitive and reproducible LC-MS method for simultaneous quantification of brusatol in mouse plasma and tissues was developed and validated...

The current study proposes a flexible approach to studying informant discrepancies: Latent Difference Scores modeling (LDS). The LDS approach is demonstrated using an empirical example in which associations between mother-adolescent and father-adolescent discrepant parenting perceptions, and concurrent and later adolescent externalizing behaviors, were investigated. Early adolescents (N = 477, aged 12-15 years), mothers (N = 470), and fathers (N = 440) filled out questionnaires about mothers' and fathers' parenting...

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy for rectal prolapse has been widely used over the past decade to reduce postoperative functional bowel disorders. We aimed to compare changes in functional outcome 12 months after laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy versus laparoscopic posterior sutured rectopexy in patients with rectal prolapse. METHODS: In this double-blind, randomised trial, consecutive patients aged 18 years or older at a single centre in Denmark with full-thickness rectal prolapse were randomly assigned (1:1) to either laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy or laparoscopic posterior sutured rectopexy by drawing numbers from opaque envelopes, in blocks of four for patients with or without preoperative constipation...

Absorption of solar radiation by stratospheric ozone affects atmospheric dynamics and chemistry, and sustains life on Earth by preventing harmful radiation from reaching the surface. Significant ozone losses due to increases in the abundances of ozone depleting substances (ODSs) were first observed in Antarctica in the 1980s. Losses deepened in following years but became nearly flat by around 2000, reflecting changes in global ODS emissions. Here we show robust evidence that Antarctic ozone has started to recover in both spring and summer, with a recovery signal identified in springtime ozone profile and total column measurements at 99% confidence for the first time...

A detailed understanding of the electronic structure of semiconducting polymers and their building blocks is essential to develop efficient materials for organic electronics. (Time-resolved) electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) is particularly suited to address these questions, allowing one to directly detect paramagnetic states and to reveal their spin-multiplicity, besides its clearly superior resolution compared to optical methods. We present here evidence for a direct S0→T optical excitation of distinct triplet states in the repeat unit of a conjugated polymer used in organic photovoltaics...
