Sexual stereotypes may adversely affect the health of Black men who have sex with men (MSM). Greater understanding of the nature and nuances of these stereotypes is needed. This online, survey-based study used an inductive, intersectional approach to characterize the sexual stereotypes ascribed to Black MSM by the U.S. general public, their distinctiveness from those ascribed to Black men and MSM in general, and their relative prototypicality as compared to dominant subgroups. Members of the public, recruited in 2014-2015, were randomly assigned to survey conditions that varied systematically by race (Black, White, or unspecified) and sexual orientation (gay, heterosexual, or unspecified) of a designated social group...

In place of a 'normal' external vagina, female spotted hyaenas bear a fully erectile, penis-sized clitoris through which they mate and give birth. Early hypotheses on the evolution of this organ have focused on its signal function, because the erect phallus is used by both sexes as part of submission or appeasement displays. However, a quite different hypothesis is suggested by recent data on the ecological function of female aggressiveness, and on the role of androgens in the development of aggressiveness and male genital development...

Many animals are equipped with organs that can be everted, a notable example being male copulatory organs. The ability to protrude or evert an organ generally requires protractor and retractor muscles. Male copulatory behaviour of the pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis (L.) involves eversion (protraction) and retraction of the relatively large penis-carrying organ. For this preputium, protractor and retractor muscle bands have been defined, which implies eversion and retraction through the activity of these muscle bands...

Between 1598 and 1641, the famous surgeon Guilhelmius Fabricius Hildanus (1560-1634) published 600 medical and surgical observations in his Observationum et curationum chirurgicarum centuriae I-VI. One of the case reports bears the title 'Pain and infertility caused by a too large penis.' The woman described in this case report most likely suffered from positional deep dyspareunia. Hildanus invented in 1593 a remarkable made-to-measure device. This device was a very well-considered and faultless curative for the woman's dyspareunia...

A wild raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procynoides) which died due to a traffic accident on 18 October 2001, and was determined to be 4.5 years old, was examined. Visual appearance of the external genitalia in this animal showed to be female with a large penis-like clitoris protruding from the vulvar juncture. Visual examination of the internal genitalia revealed that the animal possessed both testes and uterus. Histological appearance of the removed gonads showed only Sertoli cells but no spermatogenesis. Using polymerase chain reaction with skin biopsy directed against the sex-determining region on the Y chromosome (SRY) gene, the genomic SRY gene was expressed as a single band and sequenced...

Since its introduction in 1985, the Hydroflex penile prosthesis has become a popular choice of impotent patients. Simplicity of insertion, mechanical reliability, and the ability to give alternate firmness and flaccidity to the penis account for its widespread acceptance. Selection of patients is important, excluding those with impaired manual dexterity who would become frustrated in learning to operate the inflation-deflation mechanism of this device. Also, this prosthesis is somewhat bulky and cannot be crammed satisfactorily into the unusually small penis...
