This study was to ascertain if grape seed extract (GSE) can restore the shear bond strength (SBS) of total-etching adhesive to enamel immediately after bleaching. Immediately after bleaching with Beyond gel, different concentrations of GSE were applied to the surface of bovine enamel for 1 min before bonding of resin composite with Adper single bond 2 or All-Bond 3 adhesive. SBS values and debonding modes were recorded. Structure of the bonding interface and elements on enamel surface were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS)...

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is currently the leading cause of death globally. The metabolic syndrome (MetS), a clustering of risk factors including hypertension, hyperglycemia, elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, reduced high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and increased visceral adiposity, is a significant risk factor for the development of CVD. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), often referred to as the hepatic manifestation of MetS, is a constellation of progressive liver disorders closely linked to obesity, diabetes, and insulin resistance...

Peanut skin extract (PSE) and grape seed extract (GSE) are derived from waste products in the wine and peanut industries, respectively. Both have high concentrations of polyphenols, known to possess antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. PSE primarily contains "A-type" procyanidins, while GSE primarily contains "B-type" procyanidins. These differ structurally, but are both isomers of epicatechin dimers. The objective of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial effects of PSE containing A-type procyanidins and GSE containing B-type procyanidins against select foodborne pathogens (Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli O157:H7, and Salmonella Typhimurium)...

Herb extracts were shown to inhibit the activity of UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs) in vitro. However, the actual in vivo effect of the inhibitory ability on oral bioavailability is yet verified. In this study, resveratrol (RES) was used as a model drug to study the effect of three Chinese herb extracts, Ganoderma, Rhodiola and grape seed, on the in vitro and in vivo inhibition of glucuronidation and the in vivo bioavailability of RES. Overall, although herb extracts might show inhibition on glucuronidation of RES in vitro and in vivo, the inhibition of glucuronidation did not necessarily mean to improve the in vivo bioavailability of RES...

We report a simple one-pot microwave assisted "green synthesis" of Graphene Quantum Dots (GQDs) using grape seed extract as a green therapeutic carbon source. These GQDs readily self-assemble, hereafter referred to as "self-assembled" GQDs (sGQDs) in the aqueous medium. The sGQDs enter via caveolae and clathrin-mediated endocytosis and target themselves into cell nucleus within 6-8 h without additional assistance of external capping/targeting agent. The tendency to self-localize themselves into cell nucleus also remains consistent in different cell lines such as L929, HT-1080, MIA PaCa-2, HeLa, and MG-63 cells, thereby serving as a nucleus labelling agent...

Grape seed extracts are commonly utilized as dietary supplements for their antioxidant properties, even from cancer patients. However, whether these natural extracts interfere with chemotherapeutics utilized in colon cancer treatment is still poorly investigated. The cytotoxicity of extracts from Italia and Palieri cultivars either alone or in combination with oxaliplatin was evaluated in colon cancer cells. Grape seed extracts displayed anti-proliferative activity depending on the concentration utilized through apoptosis induction...

Neoplastic cells exhibit higher oxidative stress compared to normal cells; however, antioxidants based clinical trials have mostly failed. Another attractive therapeutic approach is to further increase the oxidative stress in cancer cells leading to cell death. Herein, we show that Procyanidin B2 3,3″-di-O-gallate (B2G2), the most active constituent of grape seed extract, treatment causes cell death in human prostate cancer (PCa) cells (LNCaP and 22Rv1) via increasing the reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation...

Epidemiological and clinical studies suggest that grapes and grape-derived products may reduce the risk for chronic disease. Grape seed extract specifically has been gaining interest due to its reported ability to prevent weight gain, moderate hyperglycemia, and reduce inflammation. The purpose of this study was to examine the long-term effects of two doses of grape seed extract (10 and 100 mg kg(-1) body wt per d in mice) on markers of metabolic syndrome in the context of a moderately high-fat diet. After 12 weeks, the lower dose of grape seed extract was more effective at inhibiting fat gain and improving glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity...
